This is a continuation of last night’s article.  I knew that there would be more exciting reviews of Sunday’s Celebrity Apprentice.  So many different opinions…very interesting!

Screencaps by the wonderful Cotton

CBS News – Celebrity Circuit – Contestant Pulls A Disappearing Act

By Mary-Jayne McKay

… Then again, as Aikin pointed out early in the episode, Jillette had demurred on leading the project and then showed with his ideas that he could have done so quite competently.

… Aikin, for his part, avoided the mistake that got Paul Teutel Sr., fired last week. When Trump said the judges didn’t like the slogan, he brought its creator back to the boardroom.

New York Daily News – Aubrey Rubs Her Success In Everyone’s Faces, Penn Does Final Disappearing Act

By Joyce Chen

… It turns out to be a battle of the gingers once more, with Aubrey heading up Team Unanimous and Clay taking the reins for Team Forte.

… “I noticed that Penn like to pitch and repitch his ideas,” Clay observes, eventually caving under what he calls “leading by consensus” and going with Penn’s magical ideas.

… “I can’t fire Dayana,” the curiously coiffed mogul tells Clay. “And I won’t fire you, Clay.”

Rolling Stone – Sweet Smell of Success / And What’s The Fragrance of Failure?

By Dan Hyman

… The project managers for this week are Clay Aiken and O’Day.

… Unfortunately, Clay Aiken isn’t feeling this idea (Damn you, Clay!) “This is not a porno cover,” the singer says, to the disgust of men across the country.

… Despite deferring project-manager duties to Aiken, team member Penn Jillette takes an authoritative role, much to Aiken’s disgust. Jillette also comes up with their slogan for the fragrance: “You Earned It.”

… Aiken must bring back two of his teammates to the boardroom and spare the other. He decides to bring back Jillette – because the magician came up with the team’s horrible slogan – and Mendoza for, well, just being her.

USA Today – LIFE LINE LIVE – Trump Makes Tough Celebrity Apprentice’ Firing Choice

By Ann Oldenburg

… Clay Aiken was project manager of his team, which included Dayana Mendoza (who as been called beautiful so many times that we’d be as rich as Trump if we had a dollar for every one), Penn Jillette and Lisa Lampanelli.

… Clay’s team lost largely due to Macy’s execs not liking the team’s slogan – “You earned it” – for the display. Because the slogan was Penn’s idea, Clay brought him and Dayana, who posed for a display photo that was deemed too large, back to the boardroom.

LIFELINE is the link to this short article.

ZAP2iT – It Happened Last Night

By ZAP2it

… Project Managers: Aubrey and Clay, that latter taking the mantle after Penn basically abdicates. Clay won his previous PM duel with Aubrey, it’s noted.

… Penn, despite not being PM, is kind of steamrolling the brainstorming process. Penn likes “You Earned It” as a slogan…

… Clay is also slightly dubious of “You Earned It” as a slogan, but the whole group really does like it.

… Clay enthuses about his whole team, and Lisa says Clay is one of the top 2 project managers she’s ever worked for, putting him in rarefied company with Her Aubreyness.

… Clay then brings up the “bigger balls” of him taking PM at Penn’s request. Trump is, I think, waiting for Penn to mix it up, but he merely continues to smile smugly.

OK…….Now I am sure this is enough for now.  Please stop by for updates as I will add them when popular sites publish their reviews!

Clay Aiken – Looking Foolish Does The Spirit Good

Today is April 1st, 2012. Is Clay Aiken at home in North Carolina? Is he playing pranks on his friends?? Of course we do not know where he is and that is fine. However, I wonder if we might get some fun tweets today as Clay gets ready for a long night of Celebrity Apprentice. Somehow, pranks and Clay Aiken seem to go together.

This morning, lets have some fun…I am sure we will have lots of pictures, videos, reports and articles after the show tonight.  It will be posted as quickly as we see it!

April Fools Day, sometimes called All Fools Day, is a day of unknown origin. Yet, most of the western world knows this is a day set aside for good hearted pranks, hoaxes, gags, and giggles. It is a day that the gullible, well…watch out!

Pranks performed on April Fool’s Day range from the simple, (such as saying, “Your shoe’s untied!), to the elaborate. Setting a roommate’s alarm clock back an hour is a common gag. Whatever the prank, the trickster usually ends it by yelling to his victim, “April Fool!”

April Fool’s Day is a “for-fun-only” observance. Nobody is expected to buy gifts or to take their “significant other” out to eat in a fancy restaurant. Nobody gets off work or school. It’s simply a fun little holiday, but a holiday on which one must remain forever vigilant, for he may be the next April Fool!

There is actually a website that lists the top 100 April Fool’s Day Hoaxes. Here are two on the list that are really crazy.

HOAXES

The Left-Handed Whopper

1998: Burger King published a full page advertisement in USA Today announcing the introduction of a new item to their menu: a “Left-Handed Whopper” specially designed for the 32 million left-handed Americans. According to the advertisement, the new whopper included the same ingredients as the original Whopper (lettuce, tomato, hamburger patty, etc.), but all the condiments were rotated 180 degrees for the benefit of their left-handed customers. The following day Burger King issued a follow-up release revealing that although the Left-Handed Whopper was a hoax, thousands of customers had gone into restaurants to request the new sandwich. Simultaneously, according to the press release, “many others requested their own ‘right handed’ version.”

Big Ben Goes Digital (1980)

The British Broadcasting Corp. reported that Big Ben was going to be given a digital readout. It received a huge response from listeners protesting the change. The BBC Japanese service also announced that the clock hands would be sold to the first four listeners to contact them, and one Japanese seaman in the mid-Atlantic immediately radioed in a bid.

You Know What They Say About Fools…

  • It’s better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and leave no doubt. –Mark Twain
  • However big the fool, there is always a bigger fool to admire him. — Nicolas Boileau-Despréaux
  • The ultimate result of shielding men from the effects of folly, is to fill the world with fools. — Herbert Spencer
  • Sometimes one likes foolish people for their folly, better than wise people for their wisdom. — Elizabeth Gaskell
  • Looking foolish does the spirit good. — John Updike
  • Let us be thankful for the fools. But for them the rest of us could not succeed. — Mark Twain
  • A fool sees not the same tree that a wise man sees. — William Blake
  • A fool must now and then be right by chance. — Cowper
  • It is better to be a fool than to be dead. — Stevenson
  • The first of April is the day we remember what we are the other 364 days of the year. — Mark Twain

Since the word “FOOL” has been use a lot in this article, it is appropriate to have the correct music. I hope you enjoy the following video. There is NOTHING foolish about this! I listened to many of the videos and even though this video starts with joking, the vocals are amazing and get better with each phrase.

“What Kind Of Fool Am I?

Clay Aiken – “He Is So Unbelievably Talented”

By musicfan123 · Comments 14520(12)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2012%2F02%2F13%2Fclay-aiken-he-is-so-unbelievably-talented%2FClay+Aiken+-+%22He+Is+So+Unbelievably+Talented%222012-02-13+07%3A47%3A37musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D14520
Monday, February 13th, 2012
Today, you can catch Clay Aiken on TV.  The Comedy Channel is broadcasting a re-run of Scrubs: “My Life in Four Cameras”  According to their schedule, the show can be seen at 2pm.
Originally broadcast on February 15, 2005, this particular episode received a great deal of publicity.  The popular Clay Aiken was a guest on the show and the director was using a new concept for filming the show.  The director chose to use multiple cameras instead of the usual one camera for this episode.  It was also the only time the show filmed in front of a live audience.
Clay played the role of a nerdy cafeteria worker named Kenny. Although Kenny is a hard worker, he is about to lose his job because of budget troubles and cutbacks. However, before he leaves he wins the hospital talent contest. Clay performed the Stevie Wonder hit, Isn’t She Lovely on the talent show.
The publicity came from all different sources.   The following are a few of the articles that were written about the show.
USA Today
Aiken dons ‘Scrubs’
Americal Idol runner-up Clay Aiken will guest on a part-live audience taping of NBC comedy SCRUBS, usually a single-camera, closed-set show. The episode (Feb 15, 9pm ET) will poke fun at traditional sitcoms by portraying them as an unrealistic fantasy world with a laugh track.
Entertainment Weekly

Small-Screen ‘Idol’
Clay Aiken will guest-star on ”Scrubs.” ”American Idol” runner-up to appear on episode that makes fun of sitcoms by Michael Slezak
Apparently, Will & Grace isn’t the only NBC sitcom relying on singing sensations to boost its ratings. American Idol’s Season 2 runner-up Clay Aiken will play a cafeteria worker named Kenny in the Feb. 15 episode of Scrubs, which is titled ”My Life in Four Cameras,” and will reportedly ridicule such standard sitcom conventions as the laugh track, an NBC spokesperson confirmed. While Scrubs is typically filmed on a closed set, Aiken’s episode will be taped in part before a live audience. No word on whether the carrot-topped crooner will break into song during his Scrubs stint.
mtv.com

As an “American Idol” alum, Clay Aiken knows what it’s like to perform with a lot at stake, and next week fans will see him sing like his job’s on the line – his job as a cafeteria worker.
Aiken stars as Kenny, a cafeteria employee who likes to pick hair out of the meatloaf. Like many episodes of “Scrubs,” “My Life in Four Cameras” centers on daydreaming doctor J.D., played by Zach Braff, and this one features the “longest fantasy sequence of all time,” taking over the entire second act, according to co-star Sarah Chalke (who plays Elliott).

It starts when J.D. has to give a sitcom writer the bad news that he only has a few weeks to live, and then he wonders how the lives of everyone at Sacred Heart Hospital would turn out if left in the hands of the writer.

J.D. says to himself, “Sometimes, I think we all wish life was like a sitcom,” and then suddenly, life is a sitcom, as the show transforms into a mockup of traditional sitcoms, down to its own structure. Where “Scrubs” is normally shot with only one camera and no studio audience, there are now four cameras and a live audience. Their responses surprise J.D. at first, making him wonder just where the laughter is coming from.

“In the sitcom, it’s a joke that there’s always a big guest star, and they walk out and the audience goes, ‘Woo!’ ” Braff said. “And we needed to have that, and Clay was nice enough to be our ‘woo!’ ”

“I guess I have a little experience with live audiences,” Aiken said, “so they said, ‘Why not come out and give it a shot?’ ”

Kenny’s cafeteria job is on the line, but his natural singing ability comes in handy since a hospital talent show is just around the corner — a device that would only work in sitcom world. “They have to fire someone in the cafeteria,” Aiken said, “and my character is the one with the least seniority, so it looks like I’m about to be fired. But through the magic of television and sitcoms, my job is saved.”

“He is so unbelievably talented,” Chalke said. “He has this insanely sick voice. And he was so cool, he came and sang for the audience at the end.”

It wasn’t easy for the cast members to adjust — learning to hold for laughs, for one thing — but they liked the energy of doing the show live for a change.

“When you have the safety of being in an insular, creepy, invented hospital in the Valley,” Chalke said, “the crew becomes our live audience when we’re rehearsing. So if they don’t laugh, we just go to the writers and come up with something else.”

“But the crew is a little over our jokes after four years,” Braff said. “And the audience laughing at our jokes makes us think for a second that we’re actually funny.

If you don’t get the Comedy Channel on your TV, you can see some of the show right here.  There are plenty of screencaps and the YouTube shows Clay acting in this funny show!

Clay Aiken – Every $ = 40 Days of Clean Water

By musicfan123 · Comments 10253(5)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2011%2F03%2F24%2Fclay-aiken-every-40-days-of-clean-water%2FClay+Aiken+-+Every+%24+%3D+40+Days+of+Clean+Water2011-03-24+07%3A08%3A01musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D10253

Where does your water come from? If you’re like most people, you have no idea where the water you use everyday comes from. Around 77% of US adults cannot accurately identify the natural source of the water used in their homes, according to USA Today.

Water might be the most taken for granted resource we enjoy. Everyday, almost 900 million people do not have access to clean water, and about 10,000 children younger than 5 die from illnesses as a result of using unclean water. Globally, unclean water is the largest kill in children younger than 5. (Source: Water and Sanitation Rotarian Action Group)

One of the many humanitarian projects that Clay Aiken has been involved with is called The Tap Project.

The Tap Project started in 2007 in New York City. It was a simple concept: restaurants would ask their patrons to donate $1 or more for the tap water they would usually enjoy for free. All the funds that were raised went to support UNICEF’s efforts to bring clean and accessible water to millions of children around the world.

In 2007, 300 New York City restaurants participated and it grew to over 2, 300 across the country in 2008. The Tap Project has grown into a national movement that involves restaurants, corporations, community groups, local governments, volunteers and everyday diners. Each has a goal to save the lives of millions of children.

This week (March 20 – 26) is World Water Week 2011. The Tap Project will continue to raise donations and awareness for UNICEF’s water and sanitation programs. Did you know that for every dollar raised, a child would have clean drinking water for 40 days? The money raised during the week is put to good use by UNICEF to help millions of children around the world.

Some celebrities are even donating samples of their own tap water to help raise awareness of the world water crisis. Supporters can donate to the U.S. Fund for UNICEF and simultaneously enter for a chance to win a limited edition celebrity Tap pack. Every $5 donation made will give supporters a chance to win a very special case of customized water bottles. Each bottle in the case contains water drawn from the tap of a different celebrity.

Funds raised will aid UNICEF’s water and sanitation programs in Togo, the Central African Republic and Vietnam. Caryl Stern is the President and CEO of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF.  She said the following about The Tap Project:

“Every day, many of us enjoy the gift of easy access to safe, clean water.  However much we take this for granted we must remember that for many communities water sources are unclean and soap is often not available. In these situations, disease spreads rapidly, with fatal consequences, killing millions of children a year. It may seem too simple, but clean water means life for many of the world’s children.”

UNICEF works in more than 100 countries to improve access to safe water and sanitation facilities in schools and communities, and to promote safe hygiene practices. Over the past 16 years more than a billion people have gained access to improved drinking water and sanitation facilities thanks to the efforts of UNICEF and its partners. For more information visit www.uniceftapproject.org

Why not join Clay Aiken and support UNICEF’s Tap Project. Many Clay Aiken fans have been generous towards all his humanitarian projects. This is an easy way to support UNICEF and the Tap Project.  If you go out to dinner this week, ask the restaurant if they are participating in the Project.  If so, be sure and pay for your water this week!

Clay Aiken – Singing At NHL All-Star Game

According to Brian Mansfield at USA Today’s Idol Chatter,  Clay Aiken will be singing the National Anthem at the NHL All-Star Game.

The game is scheduled for Sunday, January 30th at 4pm ET.  It will be held in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Clay said:

We all rally behind the home team.  I don’t think anybody in Raleigh knew much about hockey until the Hurricanes came to town, but now everybody has learned to love it.

In the Idol Chatter article, Clay talks about his up-coming tour and says  he has a few surprises up his sleeve.

You can read Brian’s article at Idol Chatter

It will be nice to hear Clay sing the national anthem.  He has always done such a great job on that difficult song.  Will you be tuning in??

Clay Aiken – Sometimes You Just Have To Smile!

One of my favorite things about American Idol is that when the season starts, Clay Aiken gets lots of positive press.

Brian Mansfield writes and moderates Idol Chatter, a blog on the USA Today website.  On Thursday, he wrote an article entitled  Clay Aiken rooting for ‘Idol’ contestant Victoria Huggins. Brian reports that Clay watched a young AI contestant from North Carolina sing on AI.  Clay recalled that he had met Victoria  many years ago when they had both been in a singing contest.  Each of them won their respective age group.

Why not go over and read the article.  You can find it at Idol Chatter.

Broadway.com had another article on Thursday with Clay Aiken in the title:  Bebe Neuwirth, Clay Aiken & More to Headline Broadway Backwards 6

Tony winner Bebe Neuwirth and American Idol and Broadway vet Clay Aiken are among the stars who will take part in the gender-bending evening Broadway Backwards, the annual event featuring performances of well-known musical theater songs written for the opposite sex. The one-night-only benefit event will take place on February 7 at Broadway’s Longacre Theatre.

In addition to Neuwirth and Aiken, the star-studded lineup for the evening includes Karen Olivo, Lillias White, Hinton Battle, Brooks Ashmanskas, Ward Billeisen, Colman Domingo, Jason Tam, Tituss Burgess, Len Cariou, Alan Cumming, Robin De Jesús, Jose Llana, Debra Monk, Denis O’Hare, Bobby Steggert, Brian Charles Rooney, Tony Yazbeck and F. Murray Abraham.

Broadway Backwards 6, which benefits the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center, will be directed and choreographed by creator Robert Bartley. Kathryn Kendall will serve as co-choreographer/associate director, with Chris Haber as musical director.

You can see the entire article and picture at Broadway.com

Short and sweet, but to the point.  Clay has been upset with the Wake County School Board for many months.  He seemed pleased that their problems are getting national attention.  Stephen Colbert spoke about the school board on his show on Comedy Central.  It was a very funny Stephen seemed to use his comedic style to highlight the problems.  You can see the Colbert video Here

Do you remember January 21, 2004?  If so, you will recall that Clay made a visit to The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

Clay had a great chat with Jay and they talked about fans, panties, and videos.  This was the interview when Clay found out he was voted in the top three to take a bath with.  The other two were Brad Pitt and George Clooney.  Clay also showed his pre-makeover drivers license to Jay and the audience.  Clay also sang a wonderfully exciting rendition of The Way.  The following videos feature Clay on The Tonight Show.

“Clay Aiken Was A Total Natural!”

By musicfan123 · Comments 10129(7)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2010%2F12%2F18%2Fclay-aiken-was-a-total-natural%2F%22Clay+Aiken+Was+A+Total+Natural%21%222010-12-18+08%3A44%3A14musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D10129
Saturday, December 18th, 2010

Brian Mansfield is the moderator of a website entitled Idol Chatter.  As a section of USA Today, the website is fairly active and it’s members are fans of many of the former Idol contestants.  On Friday, Brian posted the following question:

Since American Idol’s producers are making all sorts of changes to the show this year, may I suggest one more? Why not bring back “An American Idol Christmas”?

Members of the board responded quickly and the 43 comments left on the website were almost all in favor of a new American Idol Christmas Show.

Do you remember the AI Christmas Show in 2003?  The holiday special taped on October 30, 2003 and aired on November 25, 2003.  It featured American Idol finalists Clay Aiken, Ruben Studdard, Kimberley Locke, Tamyra Grey, Christina Christian, and Kelly Clarkson.  The show also included the American Juniors.

The hour-long show showcased the idols singing various Christmas songs as solos, duets and group numbers. Clay Aiken hosted the evening show.

Coming off the popular Season 2 of American Idol, the show was popular and the TV audience was large.  The show was reviewed by most of the well-known entertainment critics and, as always, their opinions varied as much as the performances by the entertainers.

Anika Van Wyk of the Calgary Sun said of Clay:

Second season runner-up Clay Aiken MCs most of the show and proves he has so much more stage presence than Ruben Studdard, who won Idol 2. Aiken’s rich pipes are also very well suited to holiday classics.

The magazine, Entertainment Weekly said:

FEAT OF CLAY Guarini was originally intended to be the special’s host, but a runner-up who actually sells CDs — Clay Aiken — will fill his shoes. And if the show’s producer is to be believed, Aiken’s talent for emceeing (think Ed Sullivan, not Eminem) matches his preternatural pipes. ”Clay was a total natural,” says Warwick. ”We struck gold there.”

Clay will do plenty of singing as well. He’ll start with ”Don’t Save It All For Christmas Day,” a tune originally attempted by a chanteuse who shares his melodramatic bent, chest-thumper Celine Dion. The Clayster will also belt Irving Berlin’s classic ”White Christmas” with Kimberly Caldwell, and will chime in with ”The First Noel” during a show-closing medley of standards.

I don’t know the author of this review, but Caldwell instead of Locke??  Somebody needs a fact-checker.

I do remember watching the show.  There are two things that I remember.  First, who had the “brilliant” idea to put Ruben in a White, fur-trimmed Parka?  Under the hot, bright lights, it must have been very uncomfortable.  Secondly, and the best of the evening, I heard Clay sing Don’t Save It All For Christmas Day for the first time.  I had never heard the song before and his performance was amazing.

What do you think?  Should there be another American Idol Christmas Show and should Clay, if asked, participate in the show?

The following video is from the 2003 American Idol Christmas Show.  This is the first time we heard Clay sing DSIAFCD.

Clay Aiken – Radio Play…these two entities are seldom mentioned in the same sentence. This is something I will never understand.

Although the Internet (52%) has surpassed radio (32%) as the first place to turn when seeking out new music, radio is still very popular with 12 to 24 year olds. In the latest study by Edison Research, 92% of the respondents said that they listen to AM/FM radio.

The holiday season changes everything on the radio. Fortunately, radio seems to embrace Clay’s wonderful voice and agrees with Clay fans that feel that no one can sing Christmas music better than Clay Aiken.

On Monday, Brian Mansfield who writes the Idol Chatter blog for USA Today reported on radio spins for American Idols.  The following are the spins for Clay.  The first number is his place on the list this week and the second number is last week’s placement.

For the entire list, visit:     USA Today

8 11 Clay Aiken, O Holy Night (1743)

47 51 Clay Aiken, The First Noel (353)

48 57 Clay Aiken, Mary, Did You Know (341)

50 54 Clay Aiken feat. Kimberley Locke, Silver Bells (331)

73 74 Clay Aiken, Winter Wonderland (123

80 NA Clay Aiken, Hark The Herald/O Come All.. (98)

Congratulations, Clay…. it is so much fun to hear you on the radio!

The National Inclusion Project is the Christie Cookie’s Charity of the Month.  Titled, Chippin’ in for Kids, Christie’s Cookies will donate 20% of the merchandise price to the Project.

The cookie assortment includes Oatmeal Raisin, Chocolate Chip and Chocolate Macadamia Nut.  It already sounds good.  What sold me was the beautiful cookie tin with the National Inclusion Project’s emblem on the cover.  This beautiful tin will stay on my desk and hopefully it will be something that people will see and ask me about!!  This is a great way to raise some income for the Project and get some great publicity too.

For more information or to order some cookies, visit Chippin’ in for Kids.

Don’t forget to add your Christmas song choices in Monday’s blog.  There are some great suggestions already, but it will be more fun to get more suggestions!!

Quote of the Day

It is not always about performance art, but about receiving positive energy from people with positive spirits. Sometimes we can see someone's spirit, and those are the people with great energy. Those are the people that get me through the day, especially on Broadway. -Clay Aiken
