Our condolences go out to David Cook and his family.

David’s brother, Adam, lost his 10 year battle with brain cancer on Saturday.

David was in Washington D.C., participating in the Race for Hope 5K when he made the announcement this morning. “Like everybody here, I’m affected by this disease. I actually lost my brother yesterday to a brain tumor,” Cook said, to the surprise of members of the crowd. “I couldn’t imagine… I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else right now,” David said. He was serving as grand marshal of the event and ran the 3.1 miles in 28 minutes. “I lost one today,” Cook continued. “But I’ve gained 9,000 and I will be here every year that they will have me.”

To honor Adam’s memory, fans can make donations to David’s Race for Hope team, according to David’s rep. Contributions will be accepted through Sept. 30.  At this time, the team has raised more than $51,000.

  1. Actually, as of today, David Cook’s Team raised over $100K and was the #1 Team for fundraising in the Race. I know David and his family will appreciate your kind words. David showed dignity and courage in the way he handled the event today. As usual, it was not all about him. It was about the survivors, those who ran the race, and finding a cure for brain tumors.

  2. It’s a sad day for David and his family. My heart goes out to them. It’s always difficult to lose one of your family–no matter what.

  3. What an powerful thing to do, to continue when his heart was so full of sorrow. My prayers go out to him and his family.

  4. So sad to hear of David and his family’s loss.
My thoughts and prayers go out to all of them in this sad time.

    Judy
