Clay Aiken – Figgy Pudding or Roasted Boar??

We need your help!! We all know that Clay Aiken sings carols better than anyone.  His album, “Merry Christmas With Love” and his EP “All Is Well” are both examples of the beauty of the songs and the richness of his voice.

Many fans would love to see Clay perform again at the holiday time…….hopefully in 2010.  Many others are hoping for a new holiday album.  This is where you come in.  We need a list of the songs you would like to see on a new holiday album by Clay. Please don’t get too carried away….maybe a list of about 3 songs.  On December 12th, I will list the songs in popular order and we can see what our “scientific” poll chooses.

It might be more fun if you add your choices before you read what others choose.  I hope we get lots of different ideas.  Also, let’s not include any songs he has already recorded.  Although Clay commented that he would love to re-record some of the songs, we are looking for a list of different songs.

There is no doubt about it – Christmas just wouldn’t be Christmas without carols.  Even people who do not attend church still enjoy carols.  For some, they bring back all those memories of a childhood long ago and far away.  For others, Carols bring home the message and the spirit of Christmas as nothing else can.

Carols are about a baby, and a star, and the angels, and peace, goodwill, and figgy pudding.  Some carols also recall the old pagan times of holly and mistletoe, yule logs and evergreen trees, roaring fires and roasted boar and wassil.

Thank you for participating in our Christmas music list.  I hope you all will give it a try…..you’ve got all week to pick your favorites.

  1. I'm with Sue on two of these, Ava Maria and Star of Bethlehem. The third one I would love to have is a Clay version of Blue Christmas. I know it's not a carol, but I love it and Clay would kill on it!

  2. I vote for
    Celebrate Me Home
It's The Most Wonderful Time of the Year
I heard The Bells on Christmas Day

    This will be interesting!!

  3. Another hard poll! Every Christmas song I hear now by others, I imagine Clay singing it.
Beautiful Star of Bethlehem – in the bluegrass way he did for his Papa 🙂
    Winter World of Love
There's No Place Like Home for the Holidays
Santa Claus is Coming to Town
    oops, that's 4, can't decide what to remove 🙂

  4. I think Clay would do a beautifully with "When A Child is Born." I also gotta go with Rally on "I heard the bells on Christmas Day." I can so hear him doing that. Maybe even "Go tell it on the Mountain" with a full choir backup.

Of course it doesn't really matter cause anything he chose would rock!

  5. Voting for:

    1. Welcome To Our World
    2. A Baby CHanges Everything
    3. Christmas Day
    4. Beautiful Star of Bethlehem

I think this will be very interesting to see what happens!!

  6. Musicfan,

I just read through your comments and nodded in ageement with all of the lists. I couldn't begin to narrow a Clay Aiken Christmas song sheet down to three. Clay Aiken is Christmas!

    Have a great week!

    Caro

  7. You have really given us a challenge with this one, musicfan! Just 3 from Clay Aiken?
I will have to think about it for a while. But, off the top of my head, I'd love for Clay to record an original holiday song that would be forever connected to him and played for years to come! "All is Well" came pretty close for me, as I'd never heard it before and also never hear any version on radio. Wish that Clay's version had gotten airplay…it was spectacular!

    • One of my all time favorite old albums was done by Glen Campbell. There are 2 songs on that album I would love to hear Clay sing and they are Little Alter Boy and Old Toy Trains. Of course all of the others mentioned are wonderful as well.

  8. Celebrate me home
    Welcome to our world
    Little drummer boy
and many many many others Clay Aiken has the best voice for Christmas songs that I have herad..the word is heard not herad…LOL
    CANN does not allow editing??????

  9. Bethlehem Morning
    What Child Is This
Do You Hear What I Hear

I believe if Clay wraps his dynamic voice around these, they would just be awesome. Love Sue's choices very much and Welcome To Our World. Love this blog!!! Awesome and fun!!!

  10. Do You Hear What I Hear
    Celebrate Me Home (with growl)
It's The Most Wonderful Time of the Year!

Can I bring some more in a few days??

  11. It's hard not to see the comments. I tried to have my mind made up before I hit the comment button. My first choice would be "Welcome To Our World." I would also love a recorded version of "Good News" and "Celebrate Me Home."
Gosh–do I have to stop at three?

  12. I'd really, REALLY love a recorded version of: 1) Celebrate me Home 2) What Child is This 3) I Heard the Bells.

    PS (I didn't look first)

    Lori

  13. O Holy Night
Don't Save it All for Christmas Day
    All is Well

I would like for him to record Baby its Cold Outside. All of his Christmas songs are wonderful and I do hope he makes a Christmas Album with Decca, but not before the upcoming 2010 album.

  14. It's hard to name only three songs! I'd love to have studio-quality versions of some of the excellent Christmas songs that Clay has performed during his Christmas concerts. My vote goes to the following three:

    The Music of Christmas
    Good News
    Welcome to Our World

My runner-up songs would include Celebrate Me Home and The Season for Romance. Gosh, I'd love another Christmas album sung by Clay!

  15. Oooh, so hard. I think I'd most like…

Do You Hear What I Hear?
    What Child Is This?
    Celebrate Me Home

The first two are longtime favorites of mine and CMH is one I absolutely loved hearing him sing in concert!

  16. I've thought about what I would like on a new cd every Christmas. Here are my 3

Let It Snow Let It Snow Let It Snow
    Blue Christmas
It's A Marshmallow World In The Winter
It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas

If he recorded these, chances are we would get to hear them live in concert. Be still my heart.

  17. I've thought about what I would like on a new cd every Christmas. Here are my top 3

It's A Marshmallow World In The Winter
It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas
    Blue Christmas
and if I had a 4th choice it would be
It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

If he recorded these songs, we would be able to see/hear him sing them live in concert. Be still my heart.

  18. I'll have a Blue Christmas Without You

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

    Oh Christmas Tree

I haven't listened to much Christmas music yet this year so I'm sure there are many really good songs I have forgotten. Whatever songs he chooses, I'm sure they will be great.

  19. Three??? You're sure about that? Only three??? Sheeeese!

Okay, I fell in love with "Once Upon a Christmas," when he sang it as part of the Hometown Connection shows. I'd love to hear that on a cd!

"Do You Hear What I Hear?" is another all time favorite along with "Little Drummer Boy," but I'd love having "Celebrate Me Home on a cd too! Four. . . can't do less than four, sorry!

Oooops! And then there's "The Music of Christmas." This isn't fair, y'know! Okay. . .narrowing it down: OUAC, CMH, MOC, I guess would be my top 3. . .but I still want the others and "Star of Bethlehem" on the cd too (just in case you're lurking, Clay!).

  20. Michael W Smith has a wonderful song called Christmas Day. It would be perfect for Clay to perform.

#2 Who Would Imagine A King
    #3 White Christmas

  21. Here are my four:

    1. Welcome To Our World.

    2. Celebrate Me Home (Growl included).

    3. Blue Christmas.

Has these all figured out before I read any others.

  22. My prayers were answered when Clay recorded "All Is Well."
My picks for a future CD are
    "Welcome to Our World"
"A Strange Way to Save the World"
"It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year"

  23. Oops, forgot to put my wishes.

    Beautiful Star of Bethlehem (as he sang for his Poppa);
    I'll Be Home For Christmas;
Blue Christmas cuz Clay does Elvis better than Elvis (I already told him that). 🙂

  24. I'm not sure if this is the correct name, but I love the song and would love to hear him sing it. "So This Is Christmas"

  25. Ave Maria (been praying for this song since his first album)
Good News (just the way he did it at his concerts)
Blue Christmas (love the way he does Elvis also)

  26. Very, very tough to choose just three.

    Ave Maria
    Celebrate Me Home
Angels We Have Heard on High

For a fourth, and fun, one would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE him to sing 'Baby It's Cold Outside' (with Martina McBride but not picky) 🙂

  27. Bending Toward the Light
We Need a Little Christmas (a good uptempo song)
Little Drummer Boy (He did a great job with Bing Crosby)
    The First Noel

  28. OK………last minute, but here are my picks
    1…I Wonder As I Wander
    2…Christmas Day
    3…Who Would Imagine A King

  29. My gosh, I almost forgot to vote!!

    Celebrate Me Home
    CHristmas Day
It's The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

I can't edit so I am sorry for the bad typing!!

  30. I would be happy if Clay sang any of the ones mentioned. You all have made some excellent choices, but I'm going to list some I haven't seen yet.
    * Nestor the Long Eared Donkey – this used to be one of my favorite Christmas specials when I was a little girl. I cried every time I watched it. Marty Robbins recorded the full version of this song a long time ago. Watch it on youtube and you'll see why Clay would be perfect to sing this song. In fact, I would love it if Clay did a children's songs album one day.
    * An Angel Gets its Wings (with Martina McBride or Faith Hill)
    * Believe (from Polar Express)

I'm with the rest of you, though. It's so hard to narrow it down to just 3. I'm like Ashes – every Christmas song I hear, I imagine Clay singing it. He's perfect singing anything.

  31. Not sure if this went through, so sorry if it's a repeat!
I really want Clay to sing….

    Christmas Shoes

    A Christmas Letter

    Christmas in my Heart

  32. Oh………I hope you haven't tallied up the results yet!

    White Christmas
    Christmas Serendae
    Who Would Imagine A King

  33. I'd like to hear "What Child Is This", "Beautiful Star of Bethlehem" and "Do You Hear What I Hear"

  34. What Child Is This?
    Ava Maria
    Beautiful Star of Bethlehem
    God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen

Actually I will take whatever he wants to sing! None do it better than Clay
