Clay Aiken – Broadway Memories

The ClayNation was surprised and excited with the news that Clay Aiken would be one of the stars participating in an one-night-only show on Broadway.  Titled Broadway Backwards 6, the show will be produced by Broadway Cares and will benefit BC/EFA and The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center of New York City.

The show features some of the biggest stars of Broadway and has a fun twist.  The performers will be singing songs that were originally written for the opposite gender.  Men will sing songs written for women and women will sing songs written for men.  All the lyrics will be exactly as the songwriter wrote them, including the pronouns.  With this twist, the songs take an entirely new dimension.  Sometimes the results will produce laughs while other results will produce touching moments.  Will you be able to attend the concert?  It sounds like lots of fun.

It was just two years ago yesterday, January 4th,  that Clay Aiken performed his last performance of Spamalot on the stage of the Shubert Theater.  It was a night of celebration for the audience and the cast members.  From the look on Clay’s face, it was a night full of joy and excitement for him too.

Thank you, Clay for the great Broadway adventure.  Your performances as Sir Robin, Guard 1 and Brother Maynard were spot on and gave the audience lots of laughs.

I was lucky enough to see Clay perform in Spamalot and even was chosen as the peasant one night.  However, I was not there for the final show.  Were you there?

Are you interested in some Clay concert tickets??  If so, stay tuned because in a few days we will be having a contest for 2 concert tickets for the San Francisco Concert on Saturday,March 12th.  These tickets should be good as they were bought as part of the PBS Pledge to KQED.  I think the contest will be fun and I hope that the tickets will find a good home.  More info about the contest and the tickets will be posted later this week!!  How is your Clay Trivia??

  1. This should be a great evening. I can't wait to hear what Clay will sing…

I remember going to Spamalot quite a few times, and loved every minute of it. Clay was excellent as Sir Robin. Would love to see him back on Broadway in a leading role with lots of singing…

I would love to win tickets for SF, but I would not be able to go to the west coast. I'm blessed to be able to attend 3 shows in Florida…so Good Luck to whom ever wins the tickets…..

  2. Hard to believe its been two years that Clay did Spamalot. Would love it if he goes back to Broadway for a new show of some kind. I won't be entering the contest for SF as I live on the East coast, so I hope someone wins that lives close by. I'll be going to the show in Charlotte.

  3. Clay will have no problem singing a "female" song. He has done a great job with songs by Dolly P and Celine D in the past. Wish I could be there for his 2/7 performance in NY, but I will see him on 2/19 in Cleveland. I did trek to NYC to catch him in Spamalot twice. What a riot! Love that guy!

  4. I cant believe either than its been 2 years since Clay has played Sir Robin in Spamalot on Broadway. What an experience for me to travel several times to see him in one of the leading roles. I would love to be able to see him in this one-night performance but look forward to Clack from it. Thanks for the memories in these great photos and this blog!

  5. Oh my goodness I could watch those scenes from Spamalot a million times. Clay is hilarious! I can't wait to hear what he sings. I can't decide if I hope it's a fun song or a sweeping ballad. Whatever it is I know it will be wonderful.

  6. I was not at Clay's final closing night, but was so fortunate to attend his first closing night after his first run on Broadway. I'd love for Clay to back on Broadway in the near future.

  8. Oh, I so enjoyed watching the Spamalot Video again. I never did get to go…but, I enjoyed all the clack that we got almost nightly. I would also like to go to the Broadway Backward Concert..but, alas, can not make it. But, as usual, will be waiting for the clack. I will be seeing Clay in Orlando on Feb. 11.
