Clay Aiken – Meeting A Challenge

I want to start today with a big:

GOOD LUCK, MR. AIKEN!!

I bet you were up early this morning, ready to meet any challenge head-on!!

Today is the beginning of the taping of the 2012 season of Celebrity Apprentice.  Although the official list of celebrities has not been announced by Donald Trump or NBC, there have been many articles by “insiders” who think they know who has been confirmed.

I am certainly not an insider…however, I have looked at the names that have shown up almost everywhere and tried to remember who they are and what their special charity might be.  Because I don’t really know these people, I did a bit of research and thought I might share it with you.

George Takei

  1. Known for playing Sulu in the original Star Trek television series and the first 6 movie features.
  2. His family was a part of the internment of 120,000 Japanese Americans in World War II.
  3. Received a Masters degree from UCLA in 1964.
  4. Has run several marathons.
  5. Was a part of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Torch Relay Team.
  6. In October, 2005, revealed that he was gay and had been in a committed relationship for eighteen years.
  7. In May, 2008, he and his partner, Brad Altman, were the first same-sex couple to apply for a marriage license in West Hollywood.
  8. Was married on September 14, 2008 at the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles.
  9. He is a Buddhist.
  10. He is a founder of the Japanese American National Museum and is a huge supporter of the museum.  (Will that be his charity?)

Arsenio Hall

  1. He is an American actor, comedian and former talk show host.
  2. Started out by being the opening act for many musicians, including Aretha Franklin.
  3. His talk show, The Arsenio Hall Show ran from 1989 to 1994.
  4. Starred in the movies, Coming To America and Harlem Nights.
  5. Received 2 NAACP Image awards in 1991.
  6. He returned to television in 1997 on a short-lived sitcom titled Arsenio,
  7. He has never been married and has one son.
  8. I could not find any mention of a favorite charity or cause,

Adam Carolla

  1. He is an American radio personality, TV host, comedian and actor.
  2. He currently hosts The Adam Carolla Show which is really a podcast on ACE Broadcasting Network.
  3. Adam wrote a book in 2010 called In Fifty Years We’ll All Be Chicks.
  4. He briefly attended a community college where he was placed on academic probation before he dropped out.
  5. He has held jobs as a carpet cleaner, carpenter, boxing instructor, and traffic school instructor.
  6. Carolla says he is an atheist,
  7. Adam stated that he consumes alcohol on a daily basis.
  8. Carolla participated in the 2010 Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race where he lost.
  9. Surprise….there is no mention of a charity or cause that he helps.

Adam is known for his controversial statements.  In 2003, he stated on-air that “Hawaiians are dumb, stupid, in-bred retarded people who are among the dumbest people we have.”

On the April 4, 2010 episode of his radio show, Carolla referred to Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao as being illiterate, having brain damage. Carolla said of the Philippines, “They got this and sex tours, that’s all they have over there.” Carolla received death threats over the incident.

In August 2011, Carolla attracted the ire of after a podcast in which, referring to transgendered people, he asked, “When did we start giving a shit about these people?” He went on to say that the LGBT moniker ought to be replaced with “YUCK,” and that LGBT activists ought to “shut up,” and that they are “ruining [his] life.” The GLAAD organization also referred to previous offensive remarks by Carolla, including an assertion that, “all things being equal,” heterosexual parents are better than homosexual parents. Carolla apologized saying, “I’m sorry my comments were hurtful. I’m a comedian, not a politician.” GLAAD responded by identifying Carolla’s apology as “empty.”

So…if Celebrity Apprentice decides to follow the previous years and break into teams by boy/girl…these three will be on Clays team.  For two of the men, that is a scary thought.

I used Wikipedia as my source for the last two celebrities as there were not a lot of other sources about them.  For more information on George Takei, there are numerous sites with more information about this seasoned celebrity.

What do you think?  Have you ever heard Adam talk?

  1. Wishing Clay the best! If certain other players get rude I know he will handle it with class and intelligence. Go Clay!!

  2. I am not an Atheist – There will be many, many prayers being said for Clay as he undertakes this
Challenge !! I'm not a believer in "Luck" but in Blessings – so here you go Clay – Love, Prayers,
and Blessings and may you use all of the God – Given talents and Intelligence that you own!
You will have 100% support from your many fans that love you ever so much.

  3. The only thing I know about Carolla is that he was on DWTS a couple of years ago. He was quickly voted off. If these guys are really the ones chosen to be on Apprentice, I can imagine Clay staying until the end of the competition. I have never watched Apprentice before, but I will not miss it this year!

  4. GOOD LUCK CLAY!!!!!

I'm sure you will do fine… Just do what you need to do, and as far as I am concerned, guys like Adam Carolla, and other bullies, don't deserve to be in the same room with you. The best I can hope for is that you can show them that they are mean, and need to re-think what they do, and realize that it is wrong. WE ARE HERE FOR YOU CLAY!!!!!! GO GET 'EM

  5. I love Clay, George and Arsenio – all good men. Adam Carolla is vile and he epitomizes what is wrong with our world. He's not funny, he's cruel. He sends the very wrong message that it is okay to bash people simply because of their race or their sexual orientation.

  6. musicfan – Thanks for doing some research on three more Celebrity Apprentice competitors. The info on George T. is very impressive and it seems like he will be a good competitor. Arsenio H. never seemed to be too controversial, so I would probably put him on the normal – okay to play along with list. As for Adam C., never heard of him, but things don't look too promising, unless he puts on a really good fake acting show. What a sorry, sorry man. I'll probably have to put the TV volume on mute if things get out of hand.

Buckets of good wishes and luck to you Clay. Let the fun begin!

  7. I had never heard of Adam prior to reading about him here and I'm appalled that he's permitted on ANY TV show.. I hope Donald gets rid of him quickly. I wonder how Clay will deal with Adam until he's gone. Will Clay tolerate this bigot, or will he be moved to tell him off? Can't wait to see. As to Arsenio and Takai, I like them both, but , of course, my HUGE preference is Clay. what FUN this show is going to be!

Musicfan, thanks so much for this intro to the contestants. Please bring us more.

  8. Well, now I know who I want elimated ASAP. I liked Arsenio on his talk show so I hope he stays around for a while. I don't have an opinion on George yet. I sure wish I knew what tasks Clay is doing on his first day. I can't help being a bit nervous even though I have a strong feeling he'll do very well.

  9. Please………make Adam the first off the show. He is a horrible person.

Thanks for the information about the guys. Will you do some of the other people too?

  10. The first I knew of Adam was his bashing of Clay in 2003 right off idol. It appears that's still his schtick and certainly not the smartest knife in the drawer. George seems to be a good guy and Arsenio was always pleasant, don't know much else about him.
I am not worried about Clay handling what Adam can dish out. He's had to face much more than that. Clay is playing for the kids and National Inclusion Project. That's what it's all about.

  11. Great research musicfan. I like George Takei. He seems to a person that gives back. I don't know much about Arsenio Hall and I have no use for Adam Carolla.

  12. Thanks for the info musicfan. Yes, I have heard Adam talk and Duck Tape would do wonders to end his trash talk.

Clay will walk circles around most, if not all, of the celebs this season.

  13. Thanks so much for all your work on this, it's interesting! Even more so, the retorts Clay will come up with to some of these folks, LOL.

I like George a lot, he's a good guy and achieved much more than I knew. And museums are totally educational and worth contributing to – it takes donations to keep them open cuz most are cheap or free to lots of folks. Plus, the Japanese contributed hugely to the progress of U.S., especially in Calif. I didn't know about his museum, it opened in 1992 here in L.A. so now I'm gonna gol!
I like Arsenio ok, watched his show sometimes; that's it.
I saw Adam C a few times on talk shows, only heard him bash political stuff. His quotes are chilling; maybe he thinks over the top isn't serious? He doesn't seem to know how to learn or do anything and has no humor; causing upset must be his only means of survival, unless there's a real human being under all that. We'll see, if he lasts at all….

  14. Thanks for the research on these other contestants. I did know some things about George and Arsenio. I did not know anything on Adam. He sounds disgusting and I hope he is "fired" first.
Good luck to Clay-he has all the skills to win this and is a good guy!

  15. WOW…….lots of great info here. I agree that Adam is a real loser.

I hope Clay had a fun day today. I really wish I knew what was going on. Seems sad that we have to wait months to learn what is going on!!

    Thanks for the info!!

  16. Some of the other men are Lou Ferrigno (from The Incredible Hulk tv show), Penn Jillette (magician), Marco Andretti ( iffy after the race car crash on Sunday, Oct. 16), Motorcycle guy, Paul Teutel, Sr,, and Dee Snider of Twisted Sister. All the candidates are listed under The Apprentice 12 on Wikipedia. Some or all may be correct.

Looking forward to watching Clay each week!

  17. Adam Corolla is on my $hit List. They put him on at the end of DWTS for quite a few years..to insult the dancers. Sick humor, if you ask me. I clearly remember a few years back when Lance Bass was on Adam said something insulting about Clay to Lance. It pertained to Clay having a son with Jaymes. Lance was so embarrassed…and I wrote a letter to DWTS stating that I would not watch any more because of it.

Any way, I love George Takai…Star Trek…my late husbands favorite show, and Arsenio Hall..seems like a very nice man.

I wish Clay all the luck in the world…and I think he will do just fine.
