Clay Aiken – “When I Think of Home”

Raleigh Skyline

Clay Aiken has often talked of his love of the state of North Carolina. He loves his home!!

On June 21, 2010, Clay participated in a wonderful event titled Bringing Broadway Home.  It was a spectacular benefit concert for the North Carolina Theatre.  The concert, held at the Raleigh Memorial Auditorium, celebrated 27 seasons of Broadway at North Carolina Theatre. The stars of the evening were

Clay Aiken, Lauren Kennedy, Sharon Lawrence, Terrence Mann and Quiana Parler.

The evening opened with Clay singing the song, Home, from the musical The Wiz. Entering from the back of the stage, Clay sang from his heart about being HOME!

When I think of home
I think of a place where there’s love overflowing
I wish I was home
I wish I was back there with the things I been knowing

Wind that makes the tall trees bend into leaning
Suddenly the snowflakes that fall have a meaning
Sprinklin’ the scene, makes it all clean

Maybe there’s a chance for me to go back there
Now that I have some direction
It would sure be nice to be back home
Where there’s love and affection
And just maybe I can convince time to slow up
Giving me enough time in my life to grow up
Time be my friend, let me start again

Suddenly my world has changed it’s face
But I still know where I’m going
I have had my mind spun around in space
And yet I’ve watched it growing

If you’re list’ning God
Please don’t make it hard to know
If we should believe in the things that we see
Tell us, should we run away
Should we try and stay
Or would it be better just to let things be?

Living here, in this brand new world
Might be a fantasy
But it taught me to love
So it’s real, real to me

And I’ve learned
That we must look inside our hearts
To find a world full of love

Two years ago, the talented SueReu put together a wonderful video that highlights Clay’s love of his home.

Of course, it features Clay’s performance in Raleigh!

Hang on…this is beautiful!

Did you see this performance live?

  1. I wish I had, too! I love all of the videos from that show! Every song done that night was so enter –
taining ! This video is great – thanks to Sue! She has done so many that are really, really good!
    Thank you, Sue!

  2. SueReu did an excellent job with this Montage…. This would be a great video for Clay's campaign. He loves his North Carolina so much, and has expressed that over and over again.

As far as Bringing Broadway Home….his performance that night was absolute perfection. Thank you Musicfan for bringing this today. I needed to hear Clay's singing voice.

  3. Thank you for this amazing video. No, I did not get to see this live. I don't remember it being announced before it happened. I would have loved to be there and hear them all sing Broadway songs. I'm a huge Broadway fan. I could not believe how young he looked in that baseball jersey.

  4. What an outstanding video. I wish that Clay's team would see this as it really tells a lot about Clay's love of his home state of North Carolina.

AND, it was so nice to hear Clay sing. I support him and his run for congress, but I miss his fabulous voice!

Thank you for this wonderful blog!

  5. Great video, Sue! I'm so sorry I didn't get to attend that show. All the songs were great and it was wonderful that clack was available for all of us to enjoy.

  6. It is just wonderful to see this video again!!! Just an amazing video and yes…it so expresses
Clay's love for his home state of NC!! Agree this would be a great campaign video if somehow
it could be used. Perhaps, SueRue could send it to campaign??! I too support him on his
new path…but oh so miss that beautiful voice!!! But we have Cd's, Videos and especially this
    beautiful one!!! THANKS!!!

  7. This video is so touching because in those early days of Clay's public career he wore his heart on his face. His face looking out at the crowd at that first NC arena show, his face at the baseball game – the vulnerability, and then the "okay, I'm a professional, I'm gonna bring it regardless of the fact I'm choking back tears" look – so poignant. Sue chose such wonderful pictures and scenes, just a masterful presentation of the "home" that Clay carries in his heart. How I wish I could have seen that BBH live performance – so many great performances by all the cast; so very thankful for the clack. Find myself watching this over and over again.

  8. If just half of the people who were at this arena concert voted for Clay, he'd win by a country mile. I didn't get to see this concert in person, but have always enjoyed watching it on line. He surely does love NC.

  9. Wow!!! This is the first time I have seen this. But I have now watched it 10 times!!!! WOW!!!! i agree this should be his campaign song. All I can say is WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
