In the United States, Memorial Day is on the last Monday
in May and honors Americans who gave their lives
for their country in wars.
Although this holiday is celebrated with barbeques, trips to the beach, and other recreation, it is important to remember the history of the day and the men and women who have given their lives for our great country.
Clay Aiken spent part of his Memorial Week-end enjoying a wonderful musical show. On Sunday, Clay attended the Off-Broadway closing performance of Dear Evan Hansen. The show will be moving to Broadway in November.
The show has won wonderful reviews and its creative team won an Obie (the big award for Off Broadway shows) for musical theater. Ben Platt, the star of the show won an Obie for his performance too. But just as important to Clay is that his musical director, Ben Cohn is also the Music Director for Dear Evan Hansen.
If a show has a successful run, the closing performance is usually a “big deal”. The audience is usually filled with invited guests, family and celebrities. It seems Clay was in the middle of the celebrities.
The following are some of the tweets and Facebook messages that were posted Sunday evening:
Louis F. Goldberg at Dear Evan Hansen at Second Stage Theatre.

I’ve been fortunate to see some truly beautiful theater in my day but I have never been as gutted, emotionally devastated or so imperfectly but wholly put back together as I was by Dear Evan Hansen at Second Stage Theatre. Thank you Pasek and Paul for a work of art that unites in its deconstruction. Congrats on your move to Broadway! P.s. Give Ben Platt ALL the awards! (s/o to Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Clay Aiken, Jane Krakowski and Gavin Creel for being the best seat mates a gal could ask for).
Renee GrassDon’t forget the incomparable @clayaiken! The stars were out tonight!! #youwillbefound @DearEvanHansen

I am glad that Clay was able to attend the show.
Hopefully he will tweet tomorrow and let us know how he enjoyed the show!
What are your plans for this Memorial Day?
Are you going to a parade or are you staying at home?
Maybe you are cleaning up the grill for an old fashioned Memorial Day Picnic.
Whatever your plans may be, have a safe and memorable Day.
My thoughts are with those, who gave their lives for our country! Never forget! Working today, unfortunately. Thanks for the news about OMC, nice to see him enjoy life! Hope everyone has a safe day!
Clay has certainly settled into life in NYC. He really enjoys the theatre and seems to have many people around who love him as much as his fans do. Thanks for keeping us informed. I'm heading to a cookout at my son's house. Love to see the grandkids whenever possible. Visited my husband's grave at the cemetery this morning. He was in the Navy in WWII. Hard to believe how long ago that was.
