In the United States, Memorial Day is on the last Monday
in May and honors Americans who gave their lives

for their country in wars.

Memorial Day National Moment of Remembrance at 3PM.
“On Monday May 30th, 2011, pause at 3:00pm local time for a minute of
respectful silence for those who have died in the service of our
nation. During that minute, television and radio stations throughout
America will air simultaneously a 60-second spot which includes
“Taps”. Turn on your radio or television to join your fellow
Americans in putting Memorial back in Memorial Day.”
Visit the organizers: No Greater Love Web Page

The first nationwide Memorial Day Parade was held on May 30, 1868 by a group of Civil war Union Army Vets.  Why they chose May 30, no one knows.

Although this holiday is celebrated with barbeques, trips to the beach, and other recreation, it is important to remember the history of the day and the men and women who have given their lives for our great country.

What are your plans for this Memorial Day?  Are you going to a parade or are you staying at home?  Maybe you are cleaning up the grill for an old fashioned Memorial Day Picnic.

Whatever your plans may be, have a safe and memorable Day.  And don’t forget to support Clay Aiken in whatever way you can.  He’s a pretty remarkable young man and today is a good time to show him and the music world that he is loved.

Clay Aiken – Remember The History Of The Day

By musicfan123 · Comments 9635(2)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2010%2F05%2F31%2Fclay-aiken-remember-the-history-of-the-day%2FClay+Aiken+-+Remember+The+History+Of+The+Day2010-05-31+07%3A13%3A31musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D9635

Memorial Day is a patriotic holiday in the United States of America, usually celebrated on the last Monday in May.

It is a celebration of remembrance for the brave service of men and women who gave their lives for their country. Originally, Memorial Day honored those who had died in the Civil War. Now, it honors those who died in the Spanish-American War, World War I, World War II, the Korean War, Vietnam and Desert Storm.

Memorial Day was declared a federal holiday in 1971. We now, designate this day to remember loved ones who have passed on, as well as remembering our service men and women. Flowers and flags are placed on graves in remembrance of them. Parades and dedications of memorials usually are part of the day’s activities. Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, local marching bands, members of the armed service, fire departments, police departments, and fraternal orders often march in parades and attend ceremonies to commemorate the day.

Waterloo, N.Y. is considered the birthplace of this holiday because the people of Waterloo were the first people to proclaim a day on May 5, 1866 to honor the soldiers who died in the Civil War. They closed their businesses and placed flowers and flags on the graves of their soldiers. Flags were flown at half-mast.

Although this holiday is celebrated with barbeques, trips to the beach, and other recreation, it is important to remember the history of the day and the men and women who have given their lives for our great country.

What are your plans for the holiday?  Are you out of town or are you staying at home?  Maybe you are cleaning up the grill for an old fashioned Memorial Day Picnic.

Whatever your plans may be, have a safe weekend.  And don’t forget to support Clay Aiken in whatever way you can.  He’s a pretty remarkable young man and this weekend is a good time to show him and the music world that he is loved.   And check in often.  We will try to keep you informed of any news that might reach us in the next few days.

Memorial Day and Labor Day are bookend holidays, marking the beginning and end of the summer holidays in the United States. These three-day weekends traditionally are times for celebration and family outings. Celebrated in most states on the last Monday in May, Memorial Day is a time to remember the U.S. men and woman who lost their lives serving their country. Originally known as Decoration Day, it was established in 1868 to commemorate the dead from the Civil War. Over the years it came to serve as a day to remember all U.S. men and women killed or missing in action in all wars.

What are your plans for the holiday week-end?  Are you going out of town or are you staying at home?  Maybe you are cleaning up the grill for a old fashioned Memorial Day Picnic.

Whatever your plans may be, have a safe week-end.  And don’t forget to support Clay Aiken in whatever way you can.  He’s a pretty remarkable young man and this week-end is a good time to show him and the music world that he is loved.   And check in often.  We will try to keep you informed of any news that might reach us this week-end.

Quote of the Day

It is not always about performance art, but about receiving positive energy from people with positive spirits. Sometimes we can see someone's spirit, and those are the people with great energy. Those are the people that get me through the day, especially on Broadway. -Clay Aiken
