“…theatre that involves singing, dancing and acting at the same time…” ~ Playbill
There are days when I wish I lived in New York City. If I was, I would go to a broadway show whenever I could!
Clay Aiken seems to enjoy going to Broadway shows. According to twitter, he attended Something Rotten ! on Saturday and The Color Purple on Sunday. Now, that sounds pretty great to me.
Something Rotten! opened on Broadway at the St. James Theatre on April 22, 2015. Unfortunately, after 742 performances, the show will close on Broadway on January 1, 2017. The U.S. Tour will start its run in Boston in January, 2017.
Entertainment Weekly wrote about the show on May 6, 2015:
Wayne and Karey Kirkpatrick have never written a musical before. Neither have Nick and Nigel Bottom. At Broadway’s St. James Theatre, both have finally done it—the only difference being that the Kirkpatricks are real and the Bottoms, to be sure, are not.
Broadway’s splashy new show Something Rotten! chronicles the efforts of two brothers (the aforementioned Bottoms, played by Brian d’Arcy James and John Cariani) who wind up inventing the musical while trying to escape from under the celebrity shadow of Shakespeare (played with cocky Jagger swagger by Christian Borle). With 10 Tony Award nominations, Rotten! is one of the beefiest entries in this year’s race for Best Musical, but love on the awards circuit is merely one accomplishment at the end of a very long journey to Broadway for the Kirkpatrick brothers and co-book writer John O’Farrell.
My favorite number in the show is in the 1st act. A Musical is filled with “everything Broadway”. It is six minutes of hilarious puns, Broadway references and exciting dance. The writers were amazingly creative in putting this all together.
I know that Clay has seen the show multiple times. I think he must enjoy it too! Do you remember seeing these pictures of Clay backstage at Something Rotten! on June 6, 2015?
I found the following videos of the show on You Tube. The first one is of the song, A Musical. It is live from the theatre. The first couple of minutes are “wonky”, but the the rest is great. How many different musicals can you recognize in this song?
The other video is from The View…when the cast performed on the show. Again, the You Tube is excellent.
I hope you enjoy this Musical as much as Clay seems to

Hopefully, we might hear some news from Clay! I even miss his tweets!!!
I would love to go see Broadway musicals! I can only imagine Clay sitting in the audience laughing and singing along. He's giving a standing ovation to the performance he had just witnessed! Thank you, CANN for posting!
Nice photos of Clay and group and nice to see the videos of Something Rotten, looks like Clay really enjoys Broadway, hope he gets on there one day. Thanks Musicfan.
I hope that Clay is able to go to New York to see the new shows when they open. Not as easy when living in NC. I’m glad he is passionate about Broadway! Fan from day one-Unconditional love to you Clay!
Clay does live in NYC right now. I believe he is there because that is where all the work is. CNN another news programs are headquartered in NYC.
Glad to see that Clay is passionate about Broadway musicals. I hope that he is able to see the new shows as they open. Harder when living in NC. They are so wonderful-I hope he never loses his love for them. Fan from day 1 – Unconditional love for you Clay!
