How are you all doing today after such an amazing event this week-end?

For those of you who were in attendance, is it Cloud 9 or The OMG GALA ? The entire Gala experience was beyond words.

For those of you who experienced the Gala through the wonderful reports and “red messages”, I am sure you are thanking your friends for trying to use  words to help you experience the event in a different way.

I am still on my way home and my brain is still working on over-time as I try to recall every little thing that made my smile bigger and bigger.  There is so much to say, but today…just a few random thoughts…

I loved…

1.   Traveling again with my dear friends and sharing a room, our thoughts and our friendship.

2.   Meeting and sharing hugs with internet friends.  No one is ever alone at a Clay Aiken event.

3.   Seeing so many volunteers that put in hours to make the event run smoothly.

4.   Seeing the excitement from the entire staff of the National Inclusion Project.  Their enthusiasm is contagious!

5.   The bus tour of the Raleigh area.  It was loads of fun.  A big thank you to Lori Finney for putting this together.

6.   Seeing the charming Lynda Loveland again.  She has been such a great friend to the Project and to Clay.

7.   The presentation on Sunday morning by Aron Hall.  He had us all on our feet, learning about inclusion by participating both mentally and physically.

8.   Seeing the smile on Kristys face as she greeted all of us.  She makes a person feel welcome.

9.  Diane Bubel, Jerry Aiken, and Faye Parker…even after the many hours of preparing for the event, they were charming and friendly to all of us.

10. Ben Cohn…his talent is remarkable. His arrangements are always exciting and he always seems to put a new twist to the songs.

11. Learning about the outstanding accomplishments of Chris Burke, Kevin Connolly, and Walgreens.  You all give us hope!

12. Quiana Parler…Wow..this girl can sing.  Please come back to another Gala!

13. Clay Aiken…Thank you for being who you are!  You put on the perfect concert for your fans.  Each song selection seemed to be picked with care and you seemed to sing from your heart. And look at what a huge difference you have made in the lives of so many people.  Your work with The National Inclusion Project has changed the world and kids everywhere will feel your love and commitment.

Well…my few comments seemed to grow.  Can you tell I am still excited about the Gala?

Safe travels to all. I hope we can share our thoughts together soon.  2012 is going to be a fabulous year to be a Clay Aiken Fan!

Clay Aiken – He’s No Fool!!

Friday, April 1st, 2011

Today is April 1st, 2011.  Is Clay Aiken still in New York or is he in North Carolina, California or on some exotic vacation?  Is he playing pranks on his friends??  Of course we do not know where he is and that is fine.  However, I am sure he is with loved ones and having a fun day.  Somehow, pranks and Clay Aiken seem to go together.

April Fools Day, sometimes called All Fools Day, is a day of unknown origin. Yet, most of the western world knows this is a day set aside for good hearted pranks, hoaxes, gags, and giggles. It is a day that the gullible, well…watch out!

Pranks performed on April Fool’s Day range from the simple, (such as saying, “Your shoe’s untied!), to the elaborate. Setting a roommate’s alarm clock back an hour is a common gag. Whatever the prank, the trickster usually ends it by yelling to his victim, “April Fool!”

The month of March ended with some exciting news about Clay Aiken and The National Inclusion Project.

Through a post on the Internet, we learned that The National Inclusion Project was one of the first recipients of the 2011 Inclusion Champion Award from The Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation.

The following is posted at the website for MEAF:

The Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation announced the first recipients of the 2011 Inclusion Champion Award at the MEAF 20th Anniversary Luncheon in Washington, DC on March 11th. The Inclusion Champion Award (ICA) was established by MEAF to honor organizations and individuals who have made measurable and sustainable impact in promoting the inclusion of youth with disabilities.

In total, 20 awards will be presented throughout this 20th anniversary year to honor current and past grantees for their efforts to promote the full participation of young people with disabilities in society. Trophies and $20,000 in grants will be distributed to the following organizations –

National Inclusion Project
I am Norm
A youth-led national campaign to promote inclusion, I am Norm was born out of a partnership between the Including Samuel Project and numerous other MEAF grantees and partners. National Inclusion Project is coordinating this initiative designed to empower youth and help redefine ‘normal.’

Congratulations to The National Inclusion Project, the entire Board of Directors and Jerry Aiken, Kristy Barnes, Aron Hall and Debbie Cain….  Your dedicated work is making a difference in the world.

Young people are fortunate that there are companies like Mitsubishi Electric America.  Kevin R. Webb is the MEAF’s director.  He says about the awards:

“For 20 years, Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation has worked to identify partners with the most innovative ideas that promote the full inclusion of young people with disabilities. The focus of the our grant investments has been and will continue to be on developing sustainable, replicable models that make the most impact on the lives of youth, and help to build more inclusive communities.”

Did you know that Clay Aiken was in People Magazine this week?  On the cover is a beautiful picture of Elizabeth Taylor and the magazine has a tribute to this Hollywood Icon.  However, on page 151, there is a montage of pictures of some of the former American Idol contestants.  The page also shows some number facts about the Idol stars.  It was fun to see Clay right in the middle of the page.

Since the word “FOOL” was used a lot today, the following Video seems appropriate!

Clay Aiken – Breaking News From Aron

Monday, November 1st, 2010

The following e-mail was received from Aron from The National Inclusion Project.  He asked that it be posted!

We are going to roll into November with the goal to stay in the top 100 and make
a major push for December.

We are not giving up, but we do believe this will allow some folks to take a
breather.

Several other factors:
– Progressive Slate has re-entered for November (They tend to go for an
every-other-month push.)
– In December, the university/school connections that many have and we don’t for
the most part is minimized with exams and extended Christmas breaks.
– Recently, most have had successes with live events and texting “in the
moment.” In December, we have WFI locations all over the country. This has the
potential to be HUGE exposure for us.
– We have learned on the fly and implemented several things midstream. Taking
this month to gather more data and do research will allow us to set-up and
establish new partnerships and strategies on December 1.

Several learnings we have:
– Our alliance will change. Most of our voting partners have decided not to
continue. We are adding Unified Theater which has a national presence with high
school and university students. They are a potential Let’s ALL Play partner and
recently were recognized in VH1′s Do Something Awards.
– Many groups are leaving comments on our page and I know some have developed
loyalty to them. That is certainly fine. However, people should realize that
you can leave a comment that you are voting without actually voting. There are
definitely groups out there that are not competing with the integrity we are
committed to maintain.

Now, if we are hanging around 11 or 12 or certainly staying in the top 10 for
November, we will change our strategy to make that major push early.

Please post this. We will keep folks updated with things they can be doing to
help us jump on December and knock this Challenge out!

Thank you so much for all your efforts and continuing to demonstrate your
loyalty to helping to make sure no child sits on the sidelines!

News About The Gala!

The National Inclusion Project Raises Over $370,000 at the 2010 Champions Gala to Ensure No Child Sits on the Sidelines

Supporters of the National Inclusion Project helped to raise over $370,000 at its 2010 Champions Gala honoring those who have made a difference in their communities for inclusion. The inspirational evening, “An Evening with the Stars” was held October 16, 2010 at the Raleigh Convention Center in North Carolina. The funds raised will be used to open doors for all kids to be included together and experience all that life has to offer. By conducting programs with community partners, the Project teaches others how to be inclusive so that kids with and without disabilities can experience life long benefits.

The gala benefit celebration featured Champions presentations and addresses by Project co-founders Diane Bubel and Clay Aiken. Attendees had the opportunity to participate in both silent and live auctions and the night concluded with a special performance by Clay Aiken.

Champions were selected by the National Inclusion Project for their substantive efforts to ensure no child sits on the sidelines in support of the Project’s mission. This year’s honorees were:

PepsiCo EnAble: PepsiCo EnAble champions inclusion for people with different abilities and their caregivers. In line with PepsiCo’s values and talent-sustainability goals, EnAble seeks to promote physical, technological, and cultural opportunities to “EnAble” their people to realize their fullest potential. With a global reach both inside and outside of PepsiCo, EnAble leads by positive example, engaging hearts and minds to raise awareness and connect with all people – associates, customers, and consumers alike. Through many partnerships such as those with Guiding Eyes for the Blind and Walgreens, as well as their own Accessible Technology initiative and Inclusive Advertising focus, PepsiCo EnAble is leading the way in real, measurable and practical ways to make a difference for all people they touch. Massimo d’Amore, CEO of PepsiCo Americas Beverage says, “EnAble’s mission is truly the ultimate expression of Performance with Purpose…it is about recognizing the full potential, not only of everyone at PepsiCo, but also our consumers and business partners.”

I Am Norm: In January 2010, twenty young people, with and without disabilities, from various locations across the United States to met each other for the very first time in Washington, DC. In just one weekend, they designed a campaign in hopes of bringing about that change. Through this campaign, they hope to raise awareness about inclusion, provide opportunities for youth to share their ideas about inclusion, and promote inclusive practices in schools and communities. They want to encourage the acceptance, respect, and full inclusion of all youth, in schools and communities through an initiative designed by young people. Their work is driven by a Youth Inclusion Taskforce and supported by a coalition of youth-serving partner organizations.

Andrew Carson, Ben Smalley, Collin Shepley, Daniel Epting, Dylan Wilson, John Hadden, John Harmon, Jason Hees, Kevin Weir, Logan Smalley, and Sam Johnson: In 2005, eleven friends decided to take their 15-year-old pal, Darius Weems, who had never left his hometown, on the adventure of a lifetime. Cameras were rolling as they left Athens, Georgia, and headed west for Los Angeles, California with three goals in mind: to raise awareness of Duchene muscular dystrophy (DMD), the disease Darius has, to test wheelchair accessibility across the country, and to convince MTV’s popular show “Pimp My Ride” to customize Darius’ wheelchair. Despite the fact that this “band of brothers” had no film-making experience, their resulting documentary, Darius Goes West: The Roll of His Life, has won 28 film festival awards. Its powerful message of friendship, inclusion, and how young people can make a difference has earned this film-turned-grassroots-movement a fan base of hundreds of thousands across the globe. To date, the documentary has raised nearly $2 million for DMD research.

Clay Aiken – Volunteer Round Table

By musicfan123 · Comments 10059(7)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2010%2F10%2F19%2Fclay-aiken-volunteer-round-table%2FClay+Aiken+%E2%80%93+Volunteer+Round+Table2010-10-19+15%3A34%3A07musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D10059
Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

On Saturday, October 16th, The National Inclusion Project hosted an outstanding event.  The successful Champions Gala was filled with hope, encouragement, motivation, friendships, good food, generosity and, wonderful music by Clay Aiken and his back-up band.  It was a wonderful celebration of an extraordinary year.

One of the most interesting events of the weekend was held Saturday morning.  Billed as a volunteer round table, the meeting was hosted by Aron Hall and Jerry Aiken.  Priscilla Brame and Diane Bubel were also there to help.

After a short overview of the Pepsi Refresh Project, Aron and Jerry took a moment to share the successes of the foundation.

  • 80 cents of each dollar goes to the children
  • 20,000 children have benefited from the National Inclusion Project
  • There have been 110 programs in 38 states
  • $5 million has been invested to advance inclusion

The participants were told that the 18 Let’s All Play camp programs that were initially funded are all continuing with the program.  Although they no longer qualify for funding from the Project, inclusion has been integrated into their daily practices.

25 programs were funded by the project in 2008, 31 programs in 2009, and 45 programs in 2010.  The programs have taken place in 23 states, including Alaska.  The goal for 2011 is 50 programs!

Jerry stated that the work of the foundation is a social movement and they are working for social change. One of the Project’s beliefs is that every child can make a friend, can participate, and can be successful.  He emphasized that it is not about dropping standards, but finding a new and unique path for success for each child.

It was mentioned that there are three important components of a successful inclusion program:

  • Children with disabilities
  • Accessible activities provided for them
  • Positive relationships with other children

The Saturday workshop was filled with many ideas and suggestions for successful Let’s All Play programs and the morning went by quickly as the group was involved in a “hands-on” presentation.  There was so much positive interaction and each participant went away, filled with hope, excitement and the determination to share this information with the world.  Many of the attendants were interested in getting more training and wanted more information on the regional Let’s All Play training.

Aron talked about some of the projects that have been successful in raising support for the National Inclusion Project.  He stated that each program can be duplicated and that those who started the project are willing to pass along the information to make it run easily.

1.        Wrapping For Inclusion….there is a detailed analysis of the best dates and places and examples of stories that can be used by volunteers.

2.       Black-tie Yard Sale….an upscale yard sale.  Invite antique dealers and members of clubs in the area.  Hold it at a historic home.

3.       Roll N Stroll….It has been very successful in New Jersey and Ohio.

4.       “Toy Day”….various large trucks and equipment are placed in an area.  Children are allowed to climb on them and ask questions of the operators….think fire trucks, bulldozers, tractors.

The National Inclusion Project is just seven years old, yet it has partnered 110 projects in 38 states and invested $5 million to advance inclusion.  They have become the leader in recreational/social inclusion.  What an amazing accomplishment!  Let’s all stand up and work to see that this wonderful work continues until inclusion is the norm and the National Inclusion Project is no longer a necessity!

Whatever kind of time you choose –

This is how much time we have left to vote for

The National Inclusion Project

At The

Pepsi Refresh Challenge!

Currently, the National Inclusion Project is in 18th place.  We need to move it up to the top ten!  Just think, $50,000 would fund:

  • Scholarships for children who are unable to afford Let’s All Play Camps.
  • Training for staff across the United States on Inclusion techniques
  • Training Supplies for new staff

Aron Hall, Director of Services at The National Inclusion Project has some last minute suggestions for us to help us move up to the top ten.

We need your help to spread the word so we can bring Let’s ALL Play training to more programs across the nation and open doors for ALL children to participate in all that life has to offer!

Here are ways to recruit potential voters:

1. Home Page Splash: Check out all the ways you can vote by visiting the National Inclusion Project home page!

2. Daily Reminders: Sign up to receive a daily email reminder and become eligible to win a free iPad if we finish in the top 10 and win $50,000! Sign up here: Inclusion Project/Pepsi Challenge.

3. Facebook/Twitter Updates: Join us on Facebook and Twitter!

4. Forward the NIP email, and share the information on message boards, Facebook, Twitter, in blogs.

5. Schedule a group text! Have the attendees turn their cell phone sounds on and walk them through sending a text together. When Pepsi texts back, the feedback will be amazing!

Each person has 30 votes – 10 through texting, 10 through FaceBook and 10 at the Pepsi website.  We can vote for The National Inclusion Project once in each voting group.  The other 27 votes should go to the charities that are a part of a voting alliance formed between the charities.  It’s a win-win situation.  We vote for them and in return, they vote for us.  Besides the extra votes, it’s a great way to introduce the foundation to other people.

Below is the current alliance list from the National Inclusion Project:

Be sure and leave a message so the organizations will know that The National Inclusion Project is supporting their cause.  You can say (copy/paste) something like:

Votes from National Inclusion Project! Help us help kids with disabilities experience life with their peers. We’re going for $50K!!
http://www.refresheverything.com/nationalinclusionproject

Only 5,760 minutes left….can we do it?  I think we CAN!!!

I would bet that Clay Aiken is watching the totals and hoping that his “baby” gets some needed support.  I wonder how many friends from Spamalot are helping out.  I bet they would support The National Inclusion Project if they knew about the voting!

Clay Aiken – The Official Fan Club

Wednesday, September 15th, 2010

It was good to see some exciting movement happening at Clay Aiken’s Official Fan Club on Tuesday.  Since the OFC moved its location, many fans have been a bit lost over there and it has been very quiet on the site.

On Tuesday, the fans were treated to a blog from Clay Aiken.  Clay didn’t have any breaking news to share, he just blogged to keep in touch with his fans.  Clay calls it a “stream of consciousness” blog.  To most of Clay’s fans, the content of the blog is not so important.  It’s always fun to read a blog from Clay. Whatever Clay says isn’t as important as realizing that he is thinking of us…and that feels really good!!

In the news section of the OFC came the announcement of an exciting concert by Clay in Chicago.  Although many fans already knew about this concert, it was nice to read some details of the concert.

The Park West in Chicago is the venue for the October 14th concert.  The Park West is a popular concert venue and nightclub located at 322 West Armitage in Lincoln Park. It originally opened in 1925 as the Park Lane Vaudeville Theater, and then it was a movie theater for several decades until it was renovated into the Park West in the 1970′s.  It’s a great place to see a show because of its intimate setting, tiered seating, and clubby atmosphere. There’s arguably not a bad seat in the house.

According to the announcement at the OFC, Clay will sing his chart topping hits as well as songs from Tried and True. It’s a good chance to hear Clay in an intimate setting and support WTTW, the Chicago public television station.  It’s a win-win event and all in one night!

While we are speaking of Clay’s Official Fan Club, I want to take a moment to commend Clayitagain, a longtime fan of Clay.  She was concerned about the lack of posting at the Fan Club so she started a new place to post and went around to many of the private Clay boards to encourage the members to come and chat at the OFC.  Because of her tenacity, the thread is active and fans have returned to the site.  Thank-you, Clayitagain.

Just one more reminder to keep voting for The National Inclusion Project at the Pepsi Challenge site.  We are about halfway through the month and so many fans are voting each day and even forming partnerships with other fan bases to support each other.  This is the only way that The National Inclusion Project has a chance to win.  The following is a list of sites that need votes.   The few minutes that this voting takes are so important.  Just think… you are helping the National Inclusion Project raise $50,000.

The following message was posted on the National Inclusion Project Facebook:

Alright, folks! Half-way home! September 15 and we’ve moved to 24th place! Time to step it up. We’re making some changes to our home page and we’ve established some great voting partners. Please help us concentrate our efforts by voting for the list below and finding their Facebook pages and posting comments! Thank you for all you’re doing!

Update

The new information for this project can be found at

NATIONAL INCLUSION PROJECT – PEPSI REFRESH

It is September 1st and it is the first day of voting for The National Inclusion Project at The Pepsi Challenge.  This is our opportunity to help raise money and support for Clay Aiken’s very own charity.  It won’t cost anything to help and it will take about 1 minute of each day.

In an e-mail, the National Inclusion Project wrote:

The Pepsi challenge is a month-long activity with each registered person able to vote daily through email, Facebook, and/or texting. We have entered the competition for $50,000 and there are 10 winners each month so there is plenty room for our partners and the Project to win.

Please help us achieve success with the Pepsi Refresh Challenge! We need you to vote daily and encourage your friends, neighbors, and anyone else you can think of to vote. You do not need to have a Facebook account to participate, but you will need to setup an account with Pepsi at www.refresheverything.com. It will take only a couple of minutes and then login daily to vote. To sign up for a daily email reminder, visit us at www.inclusionproject.org/pepsi.

Together we can do this and continue to make a difference in the lives of children, thanks for your continued and dedicated support!

According to Aron Hall, the director of Services at the National Inclusion Project, the Pepsi Challenge does not give out the complete details until the last minute.  So, the first place to get the instructions will be in the daily reminder from The National Inclusion Project.   And, of course, we will publish all the details as soon as we get them.

Aron was kind enough to send us a wonderful letter he received from a parent.  He said we could share it with you.

“I just wanted to personally thank you for making room this summer for Jonathan to participate in the inclusion camp.  He absolutely loved it.  He liked the routine, games and counselors and of course friends he met at the camp.  He was the camper of the day for a few times and we were so proud of him.  It has been more than a week since his last day at camp; he continues talking about what he would have done now at the camp if he were there.  I think he gains more confidence and has gotten more comfortable being around with other kids.  I think we made the right move.  You have done a wonderful job in finding all those energetic, helpful and enthusiastic counselors.  Again, I can go on and on about his camp experience and have nothing negative to say about the camp.

We thank you for providing such a wonderful camp for our children.  Please take care and we’ll see you next summer.”

This is why our votes are so important!!

So………lets put this challenge at the top of our “to-do” list.  AND, don’t be surprised when we remind you often about the importance of voting this month.  I believe we will all feel  good as we watch  our votes make a difference!

Clay Aiken – Can We Help?

Being a fan of Clay Aiken is a unique and exciting experience.  His fans are amazing in their support of Clay, the performer, but are also proud to support his philanthropic endeavors.

The last few weeks have been very busy for the Clay fans that are active on the internet.  There are so many opportunities to show support for Clay that sometimes fans have to choose what they can do to help.  Maybe this list will help you make some choices.

America’s Giving Challenge

From Aron Hall at the National Inclusion Project:

The National Inclusion Project just entered in America’s Giving Challenge, which gives us a chance to win $50,000! To win, between now and November 7th we have to get the most donations to our cause (every person can donate once per day between 3pm and 2:59pm the next day and have it count as a unique donation). We can also win daily awards of $1,000 and $500 if we can get the most people to donate in any 24-hour period. The great thing about this Challenge is that it doesn’t matter how much you give, but instead how much you do to encourage friends and family to get involved in our cause. We all need to come together and start promoting the cause if we want to win.

Each of us has tons of friends on Facebook who we can ask to donate to our cause. But let’s think big too—can you put our cause in your email signature, can you throw a party and get people to donate through the cause when they enter, can you organize other people to go out and fundraise from all of their friends? As you reach out to your friends be sure to tell them why this cause matters to you. The possibilities are endless so let’s talk about what we can do to win on the Wall of the cause or by replying to this bulletin.

I think we can do it! But it’s going to take all of us. Check out the Giving Challenge ( www.causes.com ), then visit our cause to see how we’re doing so far and get involved.

Let’s win $50,000 for our cause!

Quote of the Day

It is not always about performance art, but about receiving positive energy from people with positive spirits. Sometimes we can see someone's spirit, and those are the people with great energy. Those are the people that get me through the day, especially on Broadway. -Clay Aiken
