Clay Aiken – Spring Forward to American Idol!

Spring Forward !!

Do you like Daylight Savings Time??

~~~~~
It’s Sunday, March 11!  That means that the new ABC version of American Idol premieres tonight!
I have been following all the articles that have been written about the event.  Just like in past seasons, there are many, many articles written about past seasons.  This year, there are many that are “Where Are They Now” articles and often they have before and now pictures!
There is one article that I thought was different:
The Intelligencer
Catie Turner, who has been a huge fan of the show since she was a little girl, will appear on the Season 16 premiere on ABC Sunday night.
Catie Turner’s obsession with “American Idol” began when she fell in love with Season 5 runner-up Katharine McPhee’s rendition of “Over the Rainbow” in 2006, and ended, she assumed, when Fox’s hit singing show left the air after 15 seasons in 2016.
The Langhorne teen, who had dreamed of being on the show ever since she started watching it religiously as a little girl with her mother, Cathy, gave it a shot before the final season. She showed up at Temple University at 4 a.m. alongside thousands of other aspiring singers to audition, only to be told by Season 2 runner-up Clay Aiken that she wasn’t ready.
“After I got denied, I thought, oh my God, this is the end of the road for me. I guess ‘American Idol’ is not in the cards,” said Turner, who was 15 at the time. “I was so tired because I had a very long day waiting in the sun around Temple University, and let me tell you, the sadness that crept in …
“What does not being ready mean? What does Clay Aiken mean by that? And why was I literally rejected by one of the contestants. It really bummed me out.”
There would be other chances to sing, of course, other auditions, but they wouldn’t be the same. They wouldn’t be “Idol.”
Fortunately for Turner, now an 18-year-old Neshaminy High School senior, cultural phenomenons often don’t stay gone for long.
ABC announced last summer that it was reviving the show, and in October, Cathy Turner casually mentioned to her daughter, oh, by the way, you’re flying to Orlando, Florida, in a week with your aunt to audition for “American Idol.”
“When I heard it was coming back, I freaked out,” Turner said in a telephone conversation last week. “It gave me an opportunity to not only relive my childhood dream but the chance to show Clay Aiken, hey, I’m ready now. I’m 17, I’m ready to prove you wrong.”
And, apparently, ready to prove she belongs on national TV.
Turner is one of two area singers, along with Dennis Lorenzo of Philadelphia, who will be featured when the 16th season of “American Idol” debuts at 8 p.m. Sunday on ABC. Her performance at the open call in Orlando — she sang “Ride” by Twenty One Pilots — made enough of an impression that she was invited to audition in front of the celebrity judges in New York…
