Revival = rebirth, reawakening

How many of you got to attend the Pastor Studdard Revival during the summer of 2010? It certainly was a success and Pastor Studdard “awakened” the rhythm in his patient.

If you missed seeing this “miracle” in person, maybe the following pictures will help you. Then, watch the wonderful REVIVAL video montage by the talented SueReu. If you watch this video, you won’t be able to stop smiling. Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard were so good in this sketch and SueReu caught it all!

One of the many wonders of seeing Clay Aiken in a live concert is to experience the way he shares the spotlight with the other musicians on the stage.  It is almost like Clay wants us to share in his enjoyment of hearing his friends as they sing so well.

One of the ways Clay has introduced other singers to the audience is to sing duets with them.  I have chosen four videos that show four duets that Clay has performed with four different vocalists.  Each duet is amazing and also shows the  different styles of song that is always a highlight of a Clay Aiken concert.  I love all of these performances and can’t choose my favorite.  Which one do you like the most?

Clay Aiken – Crying

By musicfan123 · Comments 10077(9)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2010%2F11%2F04%2Fclay-aiken-crying%2FClay+Aiken+-+Crying2010-11-04+08%3A00%3A51musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D10077

On his recent album, Tried & True, Clay Aiken recorded the beautiful Roy Orbison song, Crying. According to many polls and discussions, many people consider this song one of the best on the album.

Roy Orbison was a popular singer-songwriter and was known for his musicianship and powerful voice.  He was born in Texas in 1936 and sang with a country band throughout high school.

Roy was at the apex of his career in the mid 1960s.  He had a recording contract with Monument Records and 22 of his songs charted on the Billboard Top Forty, including Crying.

Orbison had a singing range of three to four octaves and he sang with great passion.  The musical arrangements were almost always complex and classical in style.

In concert, Orbison seemed almost mysterious.  He always wore black clothing and dark glasses.  He always stood stock-still and by himself on stage.  Orbison said of his motionless performances that his songs did not fit any moving and dancing.  Orbison commented about his stage presence, saying:

I’m not a super personality—on stage or off. I mean, you could put workers like Chubby Checker or Bobby Rydell in second-rate shows and they’d still shine through, but not me. I’d have to be prepared. People come to hear my music, my songs. That’s what I have to give them.

Roy died of a heart attack in December of 1988 after spending a full day with his family.  He was 52 and his death was a shock.  After his death, Roy received many accolades.  On Rolling Stone’s list of The Greatest Artists of All Time, Orbison is placed at #37 and is #13 on their list of the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time.  In Billboard Magazine, Orbison was listed as #74 in the Top 600 recording artists.

Have you ever seen Orbison in concert?  It must have been an amazing time.

On October 14, 2010, Clay Aiken performed Crying with Casey Thompson as part of his WTTW – Chicago Benefit concert.  The following video shows not only the great performance by the two of them, but the relaxed friendship that Casey and Clay seem to have.  Enjoy!

Clay Aiken – Tried and True Live – Revisited

By musicfan123 · Comments 10053(11)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2010%2F10%2F14%2Fclay-aiken-tried-and-true-live-revisited%2FClay+Aiken+-+Tried+and+True+Live+-+Revisited2010-10-15+03%3A53%3A07musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D10053

I am sitting in my hotel after attending a wonderful concert by Clay Aiken.  The Tried and True Revisited Concert was all a fan could want.  I am so glad I was able to attend

The playlist of the concert was almost identical to the March, Raleigh concert.  Clay did choose to end the program with Unchained Melody and it was a wonderful way to  end the program.  There were ten musicians on stage that joined Clay and Casey Thompson as they sang.  CLay said that they had rehearsed together this afternoon.

Clay looked wonderful in his OMG suit and lavender tie.  He joked that he did his own hair…(I bet we all knew that)

The theatre is rather small and was set up with tables for all the audience.  According to one of the security men outside, the theatre seats 650 in this set-up.

Highlights of the evening………

hearing the opening notes of Mack The Knife and knowing we were in for a real treat.

the duet of  Crying with Casey Thompson

the wonderful In My Life..Clay sang it beautifully and the cellist was wonderful

Unchained Melody.…One of the best times I have heard Clay sing it.

As can be expected at a Clay Aiken concert, the audience was a huge part of the show.  Clay acknowledged all the fans and teased many of the members of the audience.  He talked to a fan on the phone and as a joke, hung up on her….then sang “Who’s Sorry Now?”   Clay acknowledged some teachers in the audience before he sang the touching In My Life.  A member of the audience helped out on one song with a dance and another smothered Clay with hugs, kisses and HANDS!!

Clay Aiken fans are the very best.  Before the concert,my friend and I arrived at the theatre at about 3:30pm.  We were numbers 55 and 56.  I checked with many of the fans ahead of me in line to find out a few facts.  #1 in line arrived with her friends at 7am in the morning.  Three ladies from Texas arrived at about 10:30.  They were prepared with some folding chairs.  There was a group from Toronto that were having a great time and it was fun to share a moment with the fans from Washington State.  There were so many fun people and it is always nice to say hello to each of them.  Everyone took care of each other and friendships were made.

We did make a point of asking if anyone needed the numbers to text in a vote  at  the Pepsi Refresh.  Almost everyone had already gotten their votes in before they got in line.

I hope that each of you will have the experience to see and hear Clay in an intimate setting  like the Park West  theatre provides.  Up close and personal concerts are really wonderful.

I must get to bed so I will stop for now.  I have to get up to catch a 7am plane to Raleigh!!

I will try and post pictures tomorrow…….It will be sometime in the afternoon.

Clay Aiken – It’s Just Dancin’ !

Did you watch Dancing With The Stars on TV last night?  Season 11 of the popular show debuted last night with an interesting array of personalities.  Most did an OK job of dancing, but, in my opinion, a few needed the Reverend Rubin to help them out.

Dancing with the Stars is a reality show that airs on ABC.   Every season, celebrities and professional dancers are paired up. In the past, celebrities have included race-car drivers, Olympic athletes, football players, supermodels, actors, singers, astronauts, and teen-heartthrobs.

Do you have a favorite dancer from last night?  Who do you think will be the first to go home?

What I was reminded of last night is how lucky I am to have seen Clay Aiken dance.  If given the chance and motivation, Clay would be very successful on the show.  It’s Just Dancin’.

Take a minute and watch these videos of Clay as he dances at his concerts.  Yeh!  Clay can  dance!

Quote of the Day

It is not always about performance art, but about receiving positive energy from people with positive spirits. Sometimes we can see someone's spirit, and those are the people with great energy. Those are the people that get me through the day, especially on Broadway. -Clay Aiken
