Sometime it is nice to see  people get some positive press.  I usually try to spend a few minutes each day checking out what is new on Google.  Today, I found this small but positive blog that made me smile.  It’s about time that Clay Aiken got some positive comments about the National Inclusion Project.

People Giving Money and Time to the Needy

Here’s a good list of millionaires who help people in need.  While this list is not intended to be exhaustive, it will let you see the nice side of some of the rich and famous people out there that are willing to assist the poor.  In this article, I will give you the names of the people giving away free money to assist others, along with some basic insight to their charitable gifts.  Let’s look at some of the people that are doing good things with their money and not just worrying about themselves.

Singers and Musicians

Alicia Keys:  Alicia Keys is one of the many millionaires that help people in need.  One of the charities she gives a great deal of support to is Keep a Child Alive.  This groups looks to provide life-saving care and support for those suffering from HIV or AIDS.  Many singers and musicians are involved in this same charity.  It is a very popular one with the musical industry and provides assistance to many people that need it.

John Bon Jovi:  In 1991, The National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. was founded.  There are many celebrities and millionaires who help people in need through this organization.  Among the others that provide support are Donny Osmond and Martina McBride, just to name a couple.  There are many others on the list as well that assist this organization.

Clay Aiken:  Aiken co-founded the National Inclusion Project in 2003.  It is designed to help close the gap of those with special needs, so they can live in the world around them.  This is a really great organization that offers help to people that are truly in need.

Sting:  The Rainforest Foundation US was co-founded in 1989 by the musician Sting and Trudie Styler.  The foundation looks to assist indigenous people of the rainforest and hopes to help protect their culture and ways of life.  It’s a really great organization that is making a difference in the world today.

Hopefully, you have found this article to be at least somewhat inspirational.  If so, please consider looking up any or all of the foundations and organizations listed to make a charitable contribution.   While it’s very easy to be cynical and think the rich don’t do anything to assist others, it’s clear that this is incorrect.  I hope you have enjoyed this list of millionaires that help people in need.

The blog also lists actors, athletes, and politicians who do outstanding things with their money.  You can visit the site at Info Barrel

I was reminded of this fun video by a poster on a Clay Message Board.  Even if you have seen it before, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Clay Aiken Sings Carole King

By musicfan123 · Comments 10291(9)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2011%2F04%2F28%2Fclay-aiken-sings-carole-king%2FClay+Aiken+Sings+Carole+King2011-04-28+07%3A03%3A14musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D10291

My life has been a tapestry of rich and royal hue, an everlasting vision of the ever-changing view…Carole King

American Idol celebrated the music of Carole King last night, as the final six contestants competed performing songs written by the Grammy-winning music legend.  The show was devoted to King’s remarkable career as a songwriter and performer.

According to The Associated Press, there are some obvious front-runners.  They said:

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Scotty McCreery won back some friends on “American Idol.”

After receiving criticism from the show’s judges for playing it too safe last week, the deep-voiced 17-year-old country crooner of Garner, N.C., enticed the panel with his buttery rendition of “You’ve Got a Friend” on the Fox talent competition’s evening of Carole King tunes Wednesday. It was 22-year-old rocker James Durbin of Santa Cruz, Calif., who was dubbed a front-runner though.

Randy Jackson proclaimed that Durbin “just might win the whole thing” after his electric reworking of “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow.”

Of course, with the voting in the hands of the fans, it is impossible to accurately predict a winner.  The singer going home is announced tonight on the results show.

Carole King is a composer-performer who wrote numerous hit songs for other performers before achieving fame on her own with the album “Tapestry” in 1971.  She wrote many of her early hits by collaborating with her first husband, Gerry Goffin. Bobby Vee, Steve Lawrence, Donny Osmond, and The Monkees sang her early hit songs.  She, herself, had a top-20 hit during this period, as well, 1961′s “It Might As Well Rain Until September”.

The following are a few facts about Carole King.

  • Elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990
  • Ranked #10 on VH1’s 100 Greatest Women of Rock N Roll
  • 2001: Co-wrote two songs, “Let You Go” and “One More Time”, with pop group Hanson. Neither of the songs has ever been released by King or Hanson.
  • She is an ex-girlfriend of Neil Sedaka.  He wrote his first hit, “Oh Carole”, for her.
  • One of music’s great songwriters, her 1971 album “Tapestry” spent more than 300 weeks on the US charts.
  • Inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1997.
  • Grammy Awards for album of the year, for Tapestry, record of the year, for “It’s Too Late,” song of the year, for “You’ve Got a Friend,” and for best pop female vocalist, all 1971.

On July 8th, 2004, Clay Aiken started his Solo Tour.  It was lovingly called the “Not A Tour” because Clay said he wasn’t really going out on the road yet.

However, after 50 performances at state fairs, arenas, and casinos, Clay’s Solo Tour was, indeed, a full summer of fun. Fans recognized many of the staff from the Independent Tour, including the back-up singers, band members and even Sarge, the bus driver.

One of the highlights of this tour was the James Taylor Medley.  Angela, Jacob and Quiana joined Clay in singing five hits from Taylor.  Carole King wrote the last song in the medley.  With You’ve Got A Friend, the four singers all took a turn as the lead.  A bit of competition usually ended the song as the four musicians all tried to be the person who could hold the last note the longest.  It was great music and lots of fun.

Did any of you attend the Summer of 2004 tour?   Do you think any of this years Idols will launch a large tour like the “Not A Tour”?

Clay Aiken – On Stage Three Times!

By musicfan123 · Comments 10097(9)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2010%2F11%2F22%2Fclay-aiken-on-stage-three-times%2FClay+Aiken+-+On+Stage+Three+Times%212010-11-22+08%3A21%3A59musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D10097

The  2010 American Music Awards were broadcast live on ABC Sunday evening,  The program was full of epic stage productions.

Justin Bieber was the big winner of the night.  The 16-year-old pop star came away with the awards for breakthrough artist, pop/rock artist and artist of the year. He was the youngest performer in the history of the AMAs to win artist of the year. Bieber also performed during the broadcast, accompanying himself on the piano.

The American Music Awards, known as the AMAs, are given to top performers throughout the music industry on an annual basis. Awards are given in the Pop/Rock, Country, Rap/Hip-Hop, Soul/R&B, Alternative, Adult Contemporary, Latin, Soundtracks and Contemporary Inspirational genres of music. In addition to the awards in each of the genres, an Artist of the Year is named from all groups combined.

The awards are voted on by fans but the nominees are chosen by their presence on Big Champagne’s Ultimate Chart. Artists are ranked on the chart as a result of their music sales combined with their presence on the radio and television, Internet streaming, and their involvement with the public through social media.  In 2007, Dick Clark Productions, who leads the event, moved to a fan based voting system which is conducted through online voting through the ABC website.

Dick Clark started the American Music Awards in 1973.  Michael Jackson co-hosted the first event with Donny Osmond. Roberta Flack won the first award given in 1973.

Clay Aiken has attended and participated in the AMA’s three times.  On November 16, 2003, Clay played a large role in the show.  He arrived on the Red Carpet with his friend Amber Nix and was nominated for two awards, Favorite Male Artist and Fan Choice.  Clay won the Fan Choice Award.  Clay also performed on the program.  Clay sang a short version of Invisible and was then joined by Ruben Studdard for an outstanding rendition of Jesus Is Love.  They received a standing ovation.

On November 11, 2004. Clay was a presenter on the program.  He was joined on stage by Kathy Griffin who was dressed as a bride.  She announced to the audience that she was going to marry Clay.  Despite the distraction, Clay was able to present the award for the Best Male Country Artist.

Clay hit the Red Carpet one more time at the AMA’s.  In 2006, Clay participated in a skit with Tori Spelling.  The two made fun of Clay’s tiff with Kelly Ripa and received lots of laughs and applause.

I have to admit that the only times I have watched the show are the three times that Clay Aiken was a part of the show.  I am not a huge fan of popular music and so the shows are just not my cup of tea!

The following video is fun.  Clay was amazing when he sang at the AMA’s.

ET Online has a video of some backstage activities from Saturday night.  It is nice to see David Foster talk about all the talented musicians that joined him for his show, “David Foster and Friends,” held at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas.

A highlight of the video is an interview of Clay Aiken with Donny Osmond.  Take a look.  It is fun.

Clay Aiken – A Highlight of the Show

By musicfan123 · Comments 4304(20)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2009%2F05%2F11%2Fclay-aiken-a-highlight-of-the-show%2FClay+Aiken+-+A+Highlight+of+the+Show2009-05-11+07%3A12%3A57musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D4304

Las Vegas, Nevada is a city unlike any other in the world.  It is a city where you can visit, Paris, Venice, New York, Mandalay Bay, New Orleans and Egypt……all within a few miles of each other.

Las Vegas is also a city where there is so much talent that one could go to a different show or event almost every night and never repeat.  Top entertainers perform for years in the city and others come for only a few weeks,  Then there are the stars that come in for only one night and bring a unique and fabulous show to the city.  Last Saturday, “David Foster and Friends” was one of those special one-night experiences.

David Foster brought together one of the most unique and talented group of entertainers one could find anywhere.  The talent spanned many different, unique styles and each was one of the best in their field.

David is like the “energizer bunny”.  He is full of more energy than most people.  Once the program started, he was involved with each act and was constantly adding his own wit and information to the show.  The show lasted 3 hours and David was “on’ the entire time.

A few highlights of the evening were surprises to many of the audience.  Heather Headley was wonderful in her rendition of “Unbreak My Heart” and she brought so much to the finale of the evening.

The audience was introduced to the talent of two dancers from the United Kingdom who showed a remarkable talent that combined dance skills and comedy.

Brian McKnight is a wonderful talent, but including his two boys in one of his songs made for a great family experience.

It was fun to see Paul Anka and Donny Osmond sing “Puppy Love” together and, of course, the visit by Cher made the audience break into applause.

The young Filipino singer, Charice, is like a firecracker.  She obviously loves to perform and seemed at ease during her set towards the end of the concert.  The audience was filled with Charice fans of all ages.  The Filipino community is proud and supportive of this new, young star.

For me, the highlight of the evening was seeing and hearing Clay Aiken back on the stage, doing what he does best……singing.  Performing a Peter Cetera Medley, Clay sounded wonderful and looked comfortable and handsome.  The audience gave Clay a great deal of support and a standing ovation.

An interesting side event of this performance was documented on Amazon on Sunday.  Clay’s rankings of sales of his album, “On My Way Here,” rose from 22,155 to 2,523 in 24 hours.  That’s pretty good for an album that is a year old.

Overall, “David Foster and Friends” was an amazing concert.  If you have the chance, don’t hesitate to attend if it ever comes close to you.

Quote of the Day

It is not always about performance art, but about receiving positive energy from people with positive spirits. Sometimes we can see someone's spirit, and those are the people with great energy. Those are the people that get me through the day, especially on Broadway. -Clay Aiken
