Clay Aiken – Standing Up For Students

It was great to wake up Thursday morning and find a new Clay Aiken PSA on YouTube.  GLSEN officially launched their Safe Space Campaign to place a GLSEN Safe Space Kit in every middle and high school in the country.  They wisely chose Clay as one of their spokespersons.

The following information is directly from the GLSEN web page.  To read more about the Safe Space Campaign or GLSEN, visit their informative site:  GLSEN

The GLSEN Safe Space Kit is a collection of resources for educators to create a positive learning environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender students. It contains a 42-page guide that provides concrete strategies for supporting LGBT students, including how to educate about anti-LGBT bias. It also comes with Safe Space Stickers and Posters that help students identify supportive educators.

Here’s how it works:

  1. You want to make a difference. You contribute $20.
  2. GLSEN will deliver a Safe Space Kit to a school of your choice or another needy school.
  3. A counselor or teacher displays a Safe Space Sticker on a classroom or office door.
  4. Students will see the Safe Space Sticker and know they have adult support right there.
  5. GLSEN will follow up with additional support and resources.

Support GLSEN’s campaign to send a Safe Space Kit to every middle and high school in the nation.

For just $20 you can send a kit to your former school or a school you care about.

GLSEN, the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network, is the leading national education organization focused on ensuring safe schools for all students. Established in 1990, GLSEN envisions a world in which every child learns to respect and accept all people, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression. GLSEN seeks to develop school climates where difference is valued for the positive contribution it makes to create a more vibrant and diverse community.
