Clay Aiken Is A Good Man

Today is the 3rd anniversary of Clay Aiken coming out on the cover of People Magazine.   The following short article is the “tease” that was posted on People’s webpage.

Clay Aiken: I’m a Gay Dad

Clay Aiken: I’m a Gay Dad

By David Caplan

Originally posted Wednesday September 24, 2008 07:00 AM EDT

Following the Aug. 8 birth of his son Parker, singer Clay Aiken is following through on a promise he made to himself as a new dad: to publicly acknowledge that he’s gay.

“It was the first decision I made as a father,” Aiken, 29, tells the upcoming issue of PEOPLE, on newsstands Friday. “I cannot raise a child to lie or to hide things. I wasn’t raised that way, and I’m not going to raise a child to do that.”

Aiken says he expects the news may overwhelm some of his fans. “Whether it be having a child out of wedlock, or whether it be simply being a homosexual, it’s going to be a lot,” said Aiken, who returned to Broadway last week as Sir Robin in Monty Python’s Spamalot.

He adds that he hopes his fans “know that I’ve never intended to lie to anybody at all. … But if they leave, I don’t want them to leave hating me.”

How He Came Out to His Family
The born-again Christian singer also reveals how he told his mother Faye he’s gay four years ago. After dropping off his younger brother Brett, who was being deployed to Iraq, at Camp Lejeune, “I started crying in the car,” Aiken remembers. “It was dark. I was sitting there, thinking to myself. I don’t know why I started thinking about it … I just started bawling. She made me pull over the car and it just came out.”

So what was his mom’s reaction? “She started crying. She was obviously somewhat stunned. But she was very supportive and very comforting.” Even now, Aiken admits, “She still struggles with things quite a bit, but she’s come a long way.”

As for his own child, Aiken tells PEOPLE that Parker – who was conceived via in vitro fertilization with his best friend, music producer Jaymes Foster – will be raised in an environment that is “accepting and allowing him to be happy.”

Says Aiken: “I have no idea if he’ll be gay or straight. It’s not something I’ll have anything to do with, or that he’ll have anything to do with. It’s already probably up inside the code there … No matter what the situation you’re in, if you’re raised in a loving environment, that’s the most important thing.”

For the first photos of Parker and more of Clay’s deeply candid interview about fatherhood, coming out, and his message for the Claymates, pick up the upcoming issue of PEOPLE, on newsstands Friday.

I have posted scans of the magazine cover and article below.  Please remember that if you click on the picture, it will enlarge the size.  Perhaps that way you can read the article.

I believe Clay Aiken is a good man.  He is an excellent role model for activism, volunteerism, inclusion and acceptance…add to that, an extraordinary talent. He is the same person he was when we heard him sing the very first… “Take.”

Clay Aiken – Happy Father’s Day!

I was asked if I could write a blog in celebration of Clay Aiken’s second Father’s Day.  Now, this is a tough one for me.  Last year, I took the chicken way out and threw together a blend to commemorate Clay’s very special first Father’s Day ever and left the writing to musicfan.

Happy Father's Day from CANN

But this year, well this year is a little different.  Clay’s a great dad who is doing an incredible job of keeping Parker out of the limelight.  I admire that more than I can say (although I will admit to wanting to see just one tiny little picture of an almost 2 year old mini Clay).

As I was perusing that big old World Wide Web looking for inspiration, I ran across this quote:

He didn’t tell me how to live; he lived, and let me watch him do it.  ~Clarence Budington Kelland

I fell instantly in love with that quote and put together a quick slide show of Clay living his life.  Not the singing, concerts, TV appearances and interviews, but Clay’s work on behalf of children around the world.  His quiet advocacy with the goal of ensuring that all children have the same opportunities; to be included and to be able to grow up and reach their full potential .

Here it is, hope you enjoy – oh, and make sure your sound is on for the last slide

Clay Aiken Celebrates

Congratulations to Parker, Clay,  Jaymes and their entire family!!

May this special day be filled with

Joy, Love, and Fun!!

The history of Birthday celebrations can be traced back to before the rise of Christianity.  In pagan culture, it was believed that evil spirits visited people on their birthdays.  To protect the person having the birthday from the spirits, friends would surround him and make a lot of noise.  They hoped that this would scare away the evil spirits.

Here are some fun facts about birthdays that will make you smile.

More people celebrate their birthdays in August than in any other month (about 9% of all people).

More people are born on October 5 in the United States than any other day. October 5 holds a not-so-surprising significance, as conception would have fallen on New Year’s Eve.

Since Parker’s birth, 31,536,000 seconds have passed at his exact birthday time.

Happy Birthday  was the first song to be performed in outer space. It was sung by the Apollo IX astronauts on March 8, 1969.

Enough with the facts!  Let’s just wish the best to the birthday boy and his family.  What an exciting day for all of them!

Please share your birthday wish for Parker!

Clay Aiken fans had a treat this morning.  Pictures of Parker Aiken are all over the internet and we all got to see the wonderful little boy.

Since the pictures were posted by friendly sites and there does not seem to be any concern by Jaymes, we feel comfortable posting the pictures.  In fact, they almost look as though they are sanctioned.

Enjoy little Parker.

The last picture is from radaronline

Lynda and Jaymes Chat With Jami Caskey

By musicfan123 · Comments 1978(9)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2009%2F02%2F12%2Flynda-and-jaymes-chat%2FLynda+and+Jaymes+Chat+With+Jami+Caskey2009-02-12+20%3A29%3A53musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D1978

Station WRAL in Raleigh, North Carolina is in the midst of a fund raising event for Duke University Medical Center.  Part of the program is to present real-life stories about the hospital.

Today, an interview with Jaymes Foster was broadcast. Lynda Loveland is one of the stations top personalities and a personal friend of Clay Aiken and Jaymes Foster.  She introduced Jaymes Foster to the radio audience and then played an interview with Jaymes with Jami Caskey who ably guided Jaymes through the interview that took place last Sunday.

Lynda started the program by explaining that Parker Foster Aiken was born in the Raleigh area on August 8th 2008.  Because Clay has worked with children for many years, Lynda felt that Clay was meant to be a father.

Jaymes told about how at 4 weeks, Parker became very ill.  He could not hold down any nourishment and both parents became very concerned.  They took Parker to Durham Regional Hospital where they kept him for about 8 hours.  At the hospitals suggestion, the family took Parker to Duke Children’s Hospital.

The staff of Duke immediately began testing Parker and they quickly had a diagnosis.  Parker had Pyloric Stenosis, a condition where the muscle at the bottom of the stomach overgrows and obstructs the stomach.  Although the diagnosis is somewhat common, it was urgent that Parker have surgery immediately.

Jaymes reported that is was terrifying and stressful, especially knowing that Parker had to go under anesthesia. But the staff at the hospital did everything they could to reassure both parents and keep them informed as to what was happening.

The results of the surgery were immediate.  Parker stopped throwing up and regained his strength quickly.  The baby was in the hospital for 4 nights.

Jaymes wanted everyone to know how wonderful the doctors and nurses were.  They were able to keep the parents calm, comfortable and well-informed.  Jaymes felt that these strangers treated her child as they would there own.

Parker is doing very well now.  He just celebrated his 6 month birthday.  Jaymes remarked that she and Clay think he is just beautiful.  She knows that all parents think their child is beautiful, however, Parker is beautiful!

According to Lynda Loveland, Parker is just the cutest, happiest little kid and a real sweetheart.

Good Luck to Duke University Medical Center in raising much money to help save lives.  And a big thank-you to Jaymes Foster for sharing her story of Parker’s successful recovery.

Quote of the Day

It is not always about performance art, but about receiving positive energy from people with positive spirits. Sometimes we can see someone's spirit, and those are the people with great energy. Those are the people that get me through the day, especially on Broadway. -Clay Aiken
