Clay Aiken – What Do You Think?

Saturday, January 28th, 2012

After a week of tweets, blogs and surprises, Friday, January 27th  ended up being a day to catch up!  No one seemed to know if Clay Aiken had overworked his twitter fingers, was enjoying family time, was traveling, lost his phone, or just decided to take a breather.  Yeah…we get spoiled.  After so much news all week, most fans were missing the “twitter master.”

However, there was some great information found at Amazon.  Instead of the empty box that was supposed to be Steadfast, they posted a cover that just might be the real deal.  It looked much like the artwork for Bring Back My Love, but the lighting was different and the colors a bit more muted.  As always, the fans had fun talking about the great picture and the great music they hope are included on the playlist!

Below is a picture that was posted at Amazon.  What do you think?

It all started in Atlanta, Georgia on January 28th, 2003, when millions of people were introduced to a skinny redhead who wore glasses and had a unique fashion style. The American Idol judges looked skeptical and no one knew what to expect.

Clay Aiken-Atlanta

Clay Aiken-Atlanta

But like your mother used to say, don’t judge a book by its cover. Clay Aiken opened his mouth to sing and the incredible voice that poured out amazed everyone.

“Why are you here?” Clay spread his hands and stated simply; “Because I am the next American Idol.”

The skeptical judges watched and listened as Clay sang an excerpt from the 80’s song, Always and Forever and demonstrated his rich, clear voice.

Randy Jackson wanted to know where the voice came from and Simon Cowell suggested that he didn’t look like a pop star. But, it’s all about the voice and so Clay, the unlikely pop star, made his first steps on an incredible journey.

The voice continued to amaze through the following weeks. Clayton Aiken became Clay Aiken. He not only looked like a pop star, he became one.

Please watch this incredible audition here.

Clay Aiken Sings Carole King

By musicfan123 · Comments 10291(9)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2011%2F04%2F28%2Fclay-aiken-sings-carole-king%2FClay+Aiken+Sings+Carole+King2011-04-28+07%3A03%3A14musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D10291
Thursday, April 28th, 2011

My life has been a tapestry of rich and royal hue, an everlasting vision of the ever-changing view…Carole King

American Idol celebrated the music of Carole King last night, as the final six contestants competed performing songs written by the Grammy-winning music legend.  The show was devoted to King’s remarkable career as a songwriter and performer.

According to The Associated Press, there are some obvious front-runners.  They said:

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Scotty McCreery won back some friends on “American Idol.”

After receiving criticism from the show’s judges for playing it too safe last week, the deep-voiced 17-year-old country crooner of Garner, N.C., enticed the panel with his buttery rendition of “You’ve Got a Friend” on the Fox talent competition’s evening of Carole King tunes Wednesday. It was 22-year-old rocker James Durbin of Santa Cruz, Calif., who was dubbed a front-runner though.

Randy Jackson proclaimed that Durbin “just might win the whole thing” after his electric reworking of “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow.”

Of course, with the voting in the hands of the fans, it is impossible to accurately predict a winner.  The singer going home is announced tonight on the results show.

Carole King is a composer-performer who wrote numerous hit songs for other performers before achieving fame on her own with the album “Tapestry” in 1971.  She wrote many of her early hits by collaborating with her first husband, Gerry Goffin. Bobby Vee, Steve Lawrence, Donny Osmond, and The Monkees sang her early hit songs.  She, herself, had a top-20 hit during this period, as well, 1961′s “It Might As Well Rain Until September”.

The following are a few facts about Carole King.

  • Elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990
  • Ranked #10 on VH1’s 100 Greatest Women of Rock N Roll
  • 2001: Co-wrote two songs, “Let You Go” and “One More Time”, with pop group Hanson. Neither of the songs has ever been released by King or Hanson.
  • She is an ex-girlfriend of Neil Sedaka.  He wrote his first hit, “Oh Carole”, for her.
  • One of music’s great songwriters, her 1971 album “Tapestry” spent more than 300 weeks on the US charts.
  • Inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1997.
  • Grammy Awards for album of the year, for Tapestry, record of the year, for “It’s Too Late,” song of the year, for “You’ve Got a Friend,” and for best pop female vocalist, all 1971.

On July 8th, 2004, Clay Aiken started his Solo Tour.  It was lovingly called the “Not A Tour” because Clay said he wasn’t really going out on the road yet.

However, after 50 performances at state fairs, arenas, and casinos, Clay’s Solo Tour was, indeed, a full summer of fun. Fans recognized many of the staff from the Independent Tour, including the back-up singers, band members and even Sarge, the bus driver.

One of the highlights of this tour was the James Taylor Medley.  Angela, Jacob and Quiana joined Clay in singing five hits from Taylor.  Carole King wrote the last song in the medley.  With You’ve Got A Friend, the four singers all took a turn as the lead.  A bit of competition usually ended the song as the four musicians all tried to be the person who could hold the last note the longest.  It was great music and lots of fun.

Did any of you attend the Summer of 2004 tour?   Do you think any of this years Idols will launch a large tour like the “Not A Tour”?

Clay Aiken Gets The Buzz OF The Night!!

American Idol…love it or hate it, it has become a huge phenomenon in the entertainment field.  Although the viewer count has been dropping the last few years, the show still is able to rope in many people to watch “the good, the bad, and the ugly.”

Tonight, American Idol, Season 10, will feature the songs of Elton John.  The Top 11 contestants will try to win a place on next week’s show by singing their hearts out, Elton John style.  Because of last week’s save, two contestants will be eliminated this week.

Clay Aiken became known for his American Idol rendition of  Don’t Let The Sun Go Down on Me.  After all, he sang it four times on the televised part of American Idol.

We first heard Clay sing Don’t Let The Sun Go Down on Me (DLTSGDOM) on the Wildcard show in March of 2003.   Clay seemed to have effortless power and he gave the impression that he had been doing this for a long time.  From the beginning, he started working the camera and because he was really into the song, his face was very expressive.

It was fun to see the judges excited about Clay’s performance.  Paula gushed and Clay blushed!!  Randy and Paula gave him a standing ovation and even Simon was impressed.

As we all know, the next night, Clay was voted America’s Choice and after composing himself with a deep breath, Clay preceded to sing the song beautifully.

The American public got it right.  They gave Clay the opportunity to shine and he became the star we all love.

On May 19th, American Idol had a special final 2 show.  The evening was filled with clips, interviews and live performances.   Clay, once again, performed Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me.

Probably the most memorable performance of DLTSGDOM was a few years later.   May 24, 2006 was the Season 5 Finale.  American Idol went all out to produce a show that was buzz-worthy.  They enlisted the top singers to make an appearance on the show and thought that including Prince in the show would cause much excitement.  Ah…little did they know that the buzz of the night was all about Clay Aiken.

AI did a Golden Idol Award skit. The category was Favorite Impersonation. Michael Sandecki, who impersonated Clay, won the competition and Ryan asked him to sing. As Michael started singing, the doors behind him opened and Clay walked through. Michael was totally awestruck by Clay. Clay surprised everyone with his new look and he didn’t look like Michael in any way!!

One of the best parts was the many comments from the press about Clay’s performance.  The following are a few of the great press:

Yahoo Buzz: Season 2 runner-up Clay Aiken made a victorious return to the “Idol” stage, sporting a new look that helped him pull in more buzz than last year’s champ Carrie Underwood. And a surprise appearance by Prince stirred up searches on the funk legend—precisely the point. Gotta love the “Idol” publicity machine.

Access Hollywood: The moment everyone is talking about around here is the reemergence of Clay Aiken. Folks here have dubbed his new look a cross between KD Lang and the Beatles. Inside the theater, he sounded amazing but I don’t think he wasn’t expecting shocked auditioner, Michael, to start trying to duet with him on the song At one point off-camera the stage manager came out and told Ryan to sit him down. That’s why the chair was brought out and you see Ryan place him there.

Baltimore MIX 106.5: So who won Idol? Katherine, Taylor? No, it was Clay Aiken’s haircut.

DC MIX 107.3: Man, did you see that Clay Aiken song in the show last night? What a great voice, and what a great guy he is to go along with the joke.

Inside Edition: Clay Aiken told us today he really enjoyed being on the AI finale and he is really thrilled for Michael Sandecki

It’s a night to remember and a wonderful moment for Clay who allowed his Impersonator to perform, yet showed everyone that he was not even close in looks, voice or star power.

Tonight, some of Clay’s fans have decided to celebrate Clay Aiken and his fabulous voice.  Many of his fans no longer watch American Idol so they are going to share remembrances and videos of Clay’s Elton John songs.  And, they will be posting the fun on Twitter too.  If you are around, why not join the fun.  The more the merrier!!

The following videos are three of Clay’s performances of Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me! Enjoy!!

Clay Aiken – Will You Be Watching?

The countdown for American Idol Ten has started.  The first episode is only nine days away and already the web is filled with new articles about the new season.  Will we be seeing the judges on every talk show this week and how many times a day will Fox run a commercial for the new show?

There have been many confirmed changes for the 10th season of Idol:

  • Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez will be joining Randy Jackson as judges.
  • The age limit for contestants has been lowered.  15 year olds are now allowed to try out for AI.
  • Gender makeup of the finalists will be determined by talent instead of numbers.
  • The Semi-Finals will be much faster.

There is a lot of speculation that there will be cameras following the contestants in the Idol house.  There is also speculation that contestants will be allowed to perform their own original music.

The producers are hoping that these changes will re-vitalize American Idol. Last year, the show’s ratings took a HUGE tumble, and some say that this could be the final season for the big budget show if it doesn’t pull better numbers.

I will always be thankful for American Idol because they introduced Clay Aiken to the world.  However, I haven’t watched the show for years.  The premise of finding an unknown talent is no longer a part of the show and the horrible way they treat the former stars is amazingly disgusting.  I will only watch if Clay Aiken is on the show.

Will You Be Watching The New Season of American Idol?

Clay Aiken – American Idol Judges

The preliminary rounds of auditions for American Idol, Season 9, will be different from the past seasons.  Because of the departure of Paula Abdul, the producers of American Idol have opted for having celebrity judges at the judges table.

The list of guest judges is excellent.  They include Tony Award winner, Kristin Chenoweth and this years Tony Awards host Neil Patrick Harris.  Other announced judges are Victoria Beckham, Mary J. Blige, Joe Jonas, Katy Perry and Shania Twain. Each one of these guest judges is active in the entertainment industry at this time and should be able to add some suggestions and advice to the contestants.

The guest judges will join Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson and Kara DioGuardi at the judges table.  Ryan Seacrest will still be hosting the show.

Although the guest judges are all highly qualified, many people believe that Paula Abdul will be missed on the show.  Although she has always been a bit “flighty”, she played an important role in the 8 years of American Idol.

What do you think?  Do you think the celebrity judges will be good?  Will Paula be missed?  Please share your thoughts!

Clay Aiken – Is Paula Gone?

By musicfan123 · Comments 5787(28)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2009%2F08%2F05%2Fclay-aiken-is-paula-gone%2FClay+Aiken+-+Is+Paula+Gone%3F2009-08-05+07%3A20%3A53musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D5787

American Idol has been around for eight years.  It has produced many talented performers.  Clay Aiken, Kelly Clarkson, Daughtry and Carrie Underwood are arguably the most well-known and talented performers from the eight year run.

But what about Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Ryan Seacrest?  Certainly, they were not household names before American Idol hit the air-waves and now they are stars in their own right.

American Idol has shown in the past that the idols are expendable.  They seem to support their talent until another contestant comes along the next year.

But on Tuesday, August 4, 2009, American Idol showed that their judges are not that important to the show……..just ask Paula Abdul.

After weeks of negotiations with the producers of “American Idol,” Paula Abdul said Tuesday evening that she was leaving the top-rated singing competition.

Paula’s contract expired at the end of season 8 and she had been negotiating for a substantial raise from the estimated $2 million that she earned last year.  Unfortunately, she has included the public in her contract negotiations with Fox.  It is usually a bad idea to try to push your boss in a public arena.

There is some sympathy for Paula as she said she just wanted a fair deal.  Judges Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson are already locked into a contract for season nine so they are set.  Then it was announced this week that Kara DioGuardia, the newest of the judges would return for another year.  They all were signed for the year, but Paula and the show were stalled in the negotiations.

And then there is Ryan Seacrest who has signed a three-year deal worth some $45 million to stay as host of “American Idol.”   American Idol must think he is far more important than Paula Abdul.

Paula announced her decision on Twitter saying, “With sadness in my heart, I’ve decided not to return to Idol.  I’ll miss nurturing all the new talent, but most of all … being a part of a show that I helped from day 1 to become an international phenomenon.”

Within an hour, FOX, FremantleMedia North America and 19 Entertainment issued the following statement. “Paula Abdul has been an important part of the ‘American Idol’ family over the last eight seasons and we are saddened that she has decided not to return to the show. While Paula will not be continuing with us, she’s a tremendous talent and we wish her the best.”

What do you think?  Do you think Paula was asking too much of American Idol or do you think the show just wanted to let her go?  Will her departure make a difference??  Do you even care??

Personally, I am not a huge American Idol fan.  But I will always be thankful that they introduced the world to Clay Aiken.

Below is a video of Clay Aiken singing “Bridge Over Troubled Water” on the finale of Season.

Clay Aiken – The Finale

By musicfan123 · Comments 4506(18)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2009%2F05%2F20%2Fclay-aiken-the-finale%2FClay+Aiken+-+The+Finale2009-05-20+15%3A31%3A32musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D4506
Wednesday, May 20th, 2009

With three performances each, Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard showed the world their singing prowess on the Finale of American Idol, Season II.  The competition, held on May 19, 2003 was the last chance to swing the final votes over to their side. Their performances blew the roof off the place.

The performances for the night were:

Round 1
1. Ruben Studdard–”A House Is Not A Home”
2. Clay Aiken– “This Is The Night”

Round 2
1. Ruben Studdard, “Imagine”
2. Clay Aiken–”Here There and Everywhere”

Round 3
1. Ruben Studdard– “Flying Without Wings”
2. Clay Aiken–”Bridge Over Troubled Waters”

Ryan Seacrest started the show by stating that it started with 70,000 contestants and came down to two southern boys who are the most unlikely people in the world to be there.  He also reminded the audience that they would have 3 hours to vote and how important the vote is this evening.

After a video journey of Ruben’s American Idol trip, Ruben sang “A House Is Not A Home.”  Paula and Simon were excited about the performance, but Simon only said “it was good.”

Clay’s video journey was shown and then he sang his new single, “This Is The Night.”  The judges were impressed with Clay’s singing; however, Randy thought the song was terrible.

In the second round, the audience got Lennon and McCartney performed by Clay and Ruben.  Ruben’s interpretation of “Imagine” was all positive to the judges; however, no mention was made of the microphone malfunction that lasted throughout the entire first verse.

Clay sang “Here, There and Everywhere.”  The judges comments ranged from …you are still the bomb to very pretty to not blown away.  The lighting for this song was odd and many people thought it made Clay look “scary.”

The final round of the night was amazing.  Singing “Flying Without Wings,” the judges and the audience delivered an outstanding performance.  The judges commented that it was the best performance of the night.

Clay then performed “Bridge Over Troubled Water” and did a tremendous job.  Accompanied by a choir, Clay knocked the song out of the park.  It left all three judges with big smiles on their faces.

The night produced beautiful performance, two very different vocal styles, and both performers left it all on the stage.

The next night started with a red carpet and ended with the crowning of a new American Idol.  The last night was a 2-hour show so there was a lot of “filler.”  Ryan joined Ruben in his dressing room and showed both Ruben and the audience the cheering throngs in Ruben’s hometown.  Ruben was his cool self.

Ryan dashed across the hall to visit Clay in his dressing room.  He introduced Clay’s fans in Raleigh.  There were over 8,000 people in the RBC Center to cheer and support Clay.  Clay seemed shocked and amazed by the support.

The evening was filled with celebrities who had to give their opinions, former idol performances, goofy films of the judges and much prattle from Ryan.

A medley of songs was performed by all the finalists which included songs originally performed by the celebrity judges.

Then Ruben, Kimberley Locke, and Clay performed a medley of “Superstar,” “Somewhere Over The Rainbow,” and “On the Wings of Love,” respectively.

Ruben performed “Flying Without Wings” with the choir again. Then, Ryan took us back to Birmingham, at Ruben’s church. They were very proud.

Clay performed “Bridge Over Troubled Waters”.  Then, it was back to Raleigh. They were proud, too.

Finally, Ryan said “it’s the closest vote in American Idol history, the American Idol is…….Ruben Studdard.”

In all reality, there were 2 winners that night.  Both of the singers were talented young men who were ready to step into the world of pop music.  And, as we all know, coming in second just didn’t matter.

Enjoy the videos of Clay’s performances and then watch the group numbers from the finale.

Quote of the Day

It is not always about performance art, but about receiving positive energy from people with positive spirits. Sometimes we can see someone's spirit, and those are the people with great energy. Those are the people that get me through the day, especially on Broadway. -Clay Aiken
