Friday, February 10th, 2012

On Thursday, February 9, 2012, Decca Records updated the artist page for Clay Aiken on their website.  Besides a bio,  photos, a list of Decca releases, and a small audio player, the site announced the release of Steadfast, Clay’s new CD.  Scheduled to be released in late March, Clay’s new single, Bring Back My Love is featured on the album.

Decca also released a press release that was picked up by many of the major entertainment news sites.  The press release was exciting to see and my favorite paragraph said:

In revisiting these meaningful interpretations Clay was also inspired to record a completely original, new song that could stand up to the classics. “Bring Back My Love,” captures the spirit of the older classics while reinforcing his commitment to a more traditional sound best suited to his own personal style. Overall, Steadfast again demonstrates Aiken’s considerable talents, notably flawless vocals delivered with passion and sincerity.

Now, that sounds good to me!  You can visit Clay’s page at Decca by clicking on DECCA.  Be sure a leave a comment at the site to let Decca know we are excited about Clay’s new music.

Playbill was one of the first sites to publish a short article about the release of Steadfast.  It is rather short, but nice:

Steadfast,” a newly packaged collection of heartfelt songs from Clay Aiken, the “American Idol” finalist who made his Broadway debut in Monty Python’s Spamalot, will be released March 29 on Decca.

“Steadfast” revisits the best of Aiken’s 2010 release “Tried and True,” featuring selected cuts from that record alongside a newly recorded, original song/radio single “Bring Back My Love.” Rounding out the disc are covers of Neil Sedaka’s “Breaking Up is Hard to Do” and Connie Francis’ “Who’s Sorry Now.” “Steadfast” arrives on the heels of Aiken’s upcoming appearance as a contestant on the new season of NBC’s “The Celebrity Apprentice,” which premieres Feb. 19.

Songs on the recording also include “Unchained Melody,” ”Moon River” and “It’s Impossible,” among others. “These musical gems have stood the test of time, and I am incredibly proud and privileged to have had the opportunity to make them my own,” Aiken said in a statement. “I stand by this recording ‘steadfastly,’ which is why I chose the title and how I feel about moving forward in my career in general – being focused and steadfast.”

Aiken — who was bested by Ruben Studdard during the second season of “American Idol” — has gone on to sell more than six million albums, co-author a best selling book (“Learning to Sing: Hearing the Music in Your Life”) and play numerous sold-out concert tours. He was a focus of the short-lived Off-Broadway musical Idol: The Musical and has appeared on “Ed,” “Saturday Night Live” and “Scrubs.”

For more information visit www.deccarecords.com.

The website LALATE has always been a source for positive Clay news…the ended their article by saying:

“I stand by this recording ‘steadfastly,’ which is why I chose the title and how I feel about moving forward in my career in general – being focused and steadfast” Aiken said in a news statement today.

HitFix – Release to Coincide With Celebrity Apprentice  HITFIX

BroadwayWorld – Clay Aiken’s Steadfast  BROADWAYWORLD

And Many more…

Clay also received some great publicity regarding his up-coming appearance as a  Judge for  a prestigious singing competition at Carnegie Hall.   The website, Operagasm wrote the following about Clay:

MASTER SINGER COMPETITION WITH NICO CASTEL AND CLAY AIKEN

New York, NY … Distinguished Concerts International New York (DCINY) and the New York Opera Studio (NYOS) are pleased to announce that Clay Aiken of American Idol fame and beloved popular entertainer will join the prestigious jury for theNico Castel International 2012 Master Singer Finalist Concert on Saturday, February 18 at 8:00pm at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. Since coming to national attention on the second season of American Idol in 2003, Clay Aiken has sold more than six million albums, written a New York Times bestselling memoir, produced and hosted television programs, and starred on Broadway. Set to appear on this year’sCelebrity Apprentice (Series Premiere February 19 on NBC), Aiken will offer his unique experience and perspective to the jury and competitors. Aiken will also join DCINY as a Special Guest for an evening of choral music, Reflections of Life, on Monday, February 20 at Carnegie Hall’s Stern Auditorium.

There was one more quick mention of Clay on TV on Thursday.  On HGTV, they showed a quick picture of a beautiful home in Durham, North Carolina.  They asked the audience if the house belonged to Ruben Studdard, Clay Aiken, or Fantasia.  After a commercial break, they revealed that the home belonged to Clay and they showed a nice picture of him.  Important?  No.  Fun?  Yes!!

It is always great to see so much PR for Clay.  I do hope that you will visit as many sites as you can and leave a comment when possible.  Comments are a way of letting the site and the author know that you appreciate reading positive articles about Clay Aiken.

What a great time we are going to have this spring!!  Are you ready?

Making An Entrance:  commonly refers to entrances that are particularly prominent or attention-grabbing.

Certainly, Clay Aiken knows how to make an entrance.  Whether it is an entrance to the stage on a TV show, the entrance from the back of the arena as he opened the show singing Kyrie, or just the stance that was so professionally lit at the beginning of his PBS special, Clay always puts that attention-getting spark into his emergence to the stage!

The following are a few of Clay’s arrivals to the stage.  Which one is your favorite?

Clay Aiken In Washington

By musicfan123 · Comments 10294(3)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2011%2F05%2F01%2Fclay-aiken-in-washington%2FClay+Aiken+In+Washington2011-05-01+07%3A28%3A24musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D10294
Sunday, May 1st, 2011

Do you remember what were you doing on the evening of May 1st, 2004?  Well, it is a date that was important to Clay Aiken.  That was the night Clay attended the White House Correspondents Dinner.  It must have been an exciting night for Clay as he attended both the dinner and the famous Bloomberg reception held the same evening.  With all his food allergies, I hope he was able to eat at the dinner.

The annual White House Association’s Correspondents (WHCA) Dinner was held last night and hosted by Seth Meyers, the Week-end Update anchor on Saturday Night Live.  It was held at the Washington Hilton Hotel.

The WHCA dinner has become a significant media event in its own right. The tickets to the Correspondents Dinner are highly coveted. The glitzy event attracts an eclectic mix of Hollywood celebrities, government officials, political figures, and, of course, journalists. Known as Washington’s prom, every president since Calvin Coolidge has attended the dinner.

A big name comedian hosts the evening. In the last few years, the hosts have been Wanda Skyes, Craig Ferguson, and Jay Leno. But the signature moment is when the President has an opportunity to mock himself and the media who cover him every day.

The WHCA is an organization that represents reporters and journalists who cover the President and the White House.

This year, four reporters were named winners of three of journalism’s most prestigious awards, and were honored at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner. The association also gave out more than $100,000 in scholarships for journalism students.

The WHCA dinner event did not really take off until the 1920s and has been a staple of the Washington social calendar ever since. Believe it or not, women – who were members of the association, were not allowed to attend the dinners until 1962.

That changed when, at the prodding of Helen Thomas of UPI, President John F. Kennedy said he would not attend the dinner unless the ban on women was dropped.

Some of the people on the red carpet last night included rapper Cee Lo Green, Paula Abdul, Scarlett Johansson, Sean Penn, and Donald Trump.

The following video shows some great footage of Clay Aiken when he attended the dinner in 2004.

Clay Aiken – He Is Funny!

By musicfan123 · Comments 10281(13)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2011%2F04%2F18%2Fclay-aiken-he-is-funny%2FClay+Aiken+-+He+Is+Funny%212011-04-18+07%3A46%3A39musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D10281

Have you ever heard of Funny or Die?  It is a streaming video website where short comedy films are uploaded and voted on by users. The site was launched in April 2007 by comedians, Will Ferrell and Adam McKay.

Adam reported that they were approached by Sequoia, a large finance firm in Palo Alto, California.  Since they did a lot of work on the Internet, they thought it was a prime place to launch a comedy – video site.

Adam McKay and Will Ferrell were both writers and actors on the very popular television show, Saturday Night Live.  McKay said:

We loved working on SNL and we still have all of these ideas that fit the format. We liked the idea of just doing comedy for comedy’s sake and having a place for our friends to do it too. We went into it with a clubhouse mentality and that was basically it. We also talked about the fact that we had just started our production company, Gary Sanchez Productions, and that it would be a great opportunity to see new directors, actors, and writers.

The site is extremely popular.  It is a site that combines the talents of celebrities, established and up-and-coming comedians and the funny guy from the everyday workplace who participate by submitting videos.

Funny or Die has grown into a multi-media, cross-platform comedy hub with a thriving Web portal and production company–the HBO series, Funny or Die Presents, debuted last year. The next stop is film, starting with the comedy duo Tim Heidecker and Eric Wareheim.

The Creative Director of Funny or Die is Andrew Steele who used to be a head writer on Saturday Night Live.  He feels the success of the site stems from the fact that

“It works because everyone wants to be there.”

Besides the superstars, Funny or Die has an informal relationship with improv actors and connections to young directors, editors and cinematographers. These relationships work both ways, since Funny or Die is able to offer exposure and industry contacts to young, raw talent, even when the pay for projects is small.

Funny or Die has solid audience numbers–1.4 million followers on Twitter, over 70 million views for their very first video…. and they have continuous buzz from hundreds of user-generated videos being voted up or down

Funny or Die has become “the” place to be seen.  Celebrities that have been featured on the site range from Billy Crystal to Katie Couric, Helen Mirren to Ralph Macchio and Rob Reiner to Snoop Dog.

It was fun to learn that Clay Aiken was at the taping of a video for Funny or Die on Saturday.  According to tweets from Tori Spelling, her home was the setting of a short video being taped for Funny or Die and she was excited that Clay Aiken was there as part of the fun.  Of course, it is not known if Clay was there to watch or if he had a part in the taping.  Whatever he was doing, I would imagine it was lots of fun and probably very interesting too.

Clay Aiken – From Idol To Stardom!

This post is coming to you from New York City.  I arrived early Saturday morning and I am getting more and more excited about my visit to the Broadway Backwards Concert.

On checking the computer, it is always wonderful to see even more positive articles and interviews about Clay Aiken and his upcoming concert tour.

Steve Rothaus is a writer for the Miami Herald.  He hosts a section of their website titled gsfla (Gay South Florida). On Friday he published a great article and interview with Clay.

Clay Aiken: Out ‘American Idol’ singing star says life is good as he launches ‘Tried & True’ tour

To his throngs of loyal fans, singing star Clay Aiken can do no wrong.

“My mother doesn’t defend me as much on some days,” says Aiken, who debuts his Tried & True concert tour Thursday at the Adrienne Arsht Center in Miami.

For five years after he won international American Idol fame in 2003, fans stood by Aiken as mean-spirited bloggers taunted him as “Gaykin.” Then, weeks after the birth of son Parker in August 2008, Aiken appeared on the cover of People magazine beside a screaming headline, “Yes, I’m Gay.”

Be sure and read the entire article that touches on the Tried and True Tour and the differences in life after coming out.  Don’t forget those important comments.  gsfla

The Miami Beach Arts Trust was founded in 1999 by the City of Miami Beach, with the primary goal of providing awareness and funding for the Arts. In 2002, at the recommendation of the City Manager, the Trust separated from the City and became a stand-alone organization.

One of its greatest accomplishments is the MiamiARTzine.com, a biweekly online publication.  Publisher and Miami Beach Arts Trust chair Harvey J. Burstein conceived the idea of an online publication to better serve South Florida’s arts community and arts lovers.

On February 5th, James Cubby wrote an article for this wonderful site about Clay and his tour stop in Miami.

James also included a wonderful biography of Clay’s career.  The writer certainly did his homework.  The following is just an introduction:

Singer Clay Aiken has morphed into quite a musical star since his first audition for American Idol in 2003. Those who watched Aiken’s first audition saw a skinny bespectacled geek but one full of confidence with a tremendous voice present himself to judges Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell. Today Clay Aiken is an American Idol. Although he didn’t win the show, coming in a close second, Aiken, like many other Idol “losers,” has a won a place in the hearts of the American public. With six albums under his belt (his debut album Measure of a Man went multi-platinum), nine tours, a New York Times best-selling book, a stint on Broadway and a string of guest starring roles on shows like Scrubs, Saturday Night Live and 30 Rock, Aiken is not only an American Idol but a star.

A big Thank you to James Cubby for this wonderful article on Clay.  Please visit his site, read the entire article and thank him by leaving a comment.  Miamiartzine

Be sure and add your song suggestions to Saturdays post.  It’s fun to think about what Clay might sing on Monday night.

I will try and report back about the concert as soon as I can Monday.  I will be attending the reception after the concert so it might be a bit delayed.  But…….it will be there.

Clay Aiken – YouTube Hit!

Saturday, January 8th, 2011

If you are a fan of Clay Aiken, you are probably also a fan of YouTube.  This five – year – old company has allowed fans to share “Clack” easily all over the world.

In its short life, YouTube has completely reshaped the Internet and influenced media and political landscapes.

In February of 2005, 3 young employees of PayPal started to work on the concept of YouTube.  It wasn’t until December of 2005 that YouTube officially debuted.

Saturday Night Live helped in making YouTube a popular site.  In December 2005, they aired a skit titled Lazy Sunday.  This short clip was an instant success for YouTube as the video had nearly 2 million views in one week.

Four months later, a company called Sequoia funded YouTube to the tune of $8 million dollars.  A year later, Google bought YouTube for $1.65 billion.

There are a couple of extraordinary events in YouTube history:

  • April 6, 2006: “The Evolution of Dance,” a six-minute mashup of 50 years of dance crazes was put on YouTube.  It became the most popular clip in YouTube history.  It generated over 131 million views.
  • July 23, 2007: CNN and YouTube hosted their first presidential debate.
  • April 11, 2009: Susan Boyle became a global celebrity. Her performance on a British show was viewed 80 million times.
  • October 12, 2009:  YouTube passes 1 billion videos a day.  The company still remains unprofitable as they spend more than $700 million to store and serve all the videos.
  • May, 2010:  The average person spends 15 minutes a day on YouTube.
  • Current:  24 hours worth of videos upload every minute.
  • Lady Gaga’s video of “Bad Romance” is the most popular video with 185.39 million views.

I can get lost in YouTube.  I probably spend too much time hunting for interesting videos and spend most of my YouTube time watching Clay Aiken.  Today I found a couple from the beginning of Clay’s professional musical career.  He was an amazing talent when these videos were filmed and I feel he is only become better as time has gone by.

I hope you have fun with these videos too!!

By the way…on Wednesday, January 12th we will post our trivia contest for 2 free PBS tickets to the San Francisco Tried & True concert.  Seat assignments are unknown at this time, but the seats should be good as they were bought through KQED as part of a pledge gift.

Clay Aiken – Meet Trey Aiken

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

February 7, 2004 was a typical Saturday night.  At 11:30pm, televisions all over the US switched to NBC to watch the popular show, Saturday Night Live. The guest host of the evening was Megan Mullally, but the star of the evening was Clay Aiken.

The preceding week, NBC teased their audience with lots of fun promos for the show and each one showed Clay just being his “funny” self.  There was even one with a “pasty” that was a parody on the Super Bowl Halftime Show.

Most Clay Aiken fans knew the night was going to be great as soon as we saw Clay jump on stage dressed in a white tux and belting out “She’s So Hot!”

Clay was actively involved throughout the show.  One of the highlights was a skit about getting into the Grammy Awards.  The ill-fitted suit, the curly wig, the exaggerated accent and especially the “Aiken Wink” made Trey Aiken and the skit a highlight of the entire season.

Besides acting, Clay sang   “Invisible” and “The Way.”  When the show was over, it was fun to see all the cast hugging each other and congratulating Clay for the great job that he did.
