Clay Aiken – Tour Is A Big Success!

By musicfan123 · Comments 10229(9)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2011%2F03%2F01%2Fclay-aiken-tour-is-a-big-success%2FClay+Aiken+-+Tour+Is+A+Big+Success%212011-03-01+08%3A55%3A24musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D10229

As Clay Aiken’s Tried and True Tour has past the halfway point, there is no doubt that the tour has been successful.

Each review has praised Clays beautiful voice, his quick wit and wonderful rapport with the audiences. All reports seem to mention the top musicians that are backing Clay during this tour.  Each musician brings a special talent to the show and helps to make the concert an amazing event.

In this time of economic turmoil, it is important that we realize how lucky we are to have Clay touring.  Ticket sales are improving as word of the successful show gets out, but as with many top musical stars, Tried and True must be crunching the numbers.

On Monday, February 28th, the problems with concert tours made many headlines.  Live Nation Entertainment reported Monday that its annual loss nearly tripled as concert attendance dropped.  The concert promoter and parent of Ticketmaster lost $228.4 million.

According to the Associated Press, concert attendance at shows promoted by Live Nation fell 9 percent and the arts and theater category decreased 12 percent.  Michael Rapino, CEO of Live Nation blames the economy and “industry specific problems.”

The decline is obvious when you realize that there were many major tours from major artists (U2, the Eagles, Christina Aguilera, “American Idols Live!” and the revived Lilith Fair tour) had many cancellations and postponements.  The company has been dropping prices in order to encourage sellout crowds.

And with all of this, Clay Aiken is out on tour.  He didn’t put it off and he didn’t cancel any scheduled stops.  And even though the tour is not selling out venues, in my eyes, the concert tour is successful.

Live Nation is based in Beverly Hills, California and has been buying out different companies in hopes of being the world leader in live events.  They are connected to Ticketmaster, Clear Channel Communications, and House of Blues.  They own 117 venues and the rights to book 33 additional venues.

Clay Aiken – Touching The Soul

By musicfan123 · Comments 10079(17)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2010%2F11%2F05%2Fclay-aiken-touching-the-soul%2FClay+Aiken+-+Touching+The+Soul2010-11-05+07%3A09%3A07musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D10079
Friday, November 5th, 2010

Edison Research is a company that conducts market research and exit polling.  They provide strategic information for businesses and media organizations throughout the world.

Besides providing exit poll information to the top six news organizations, Edison is a leader in researching new trends and consumer behavior.

The Federal Communications Commission selected Edison to conduct a national study about localism in radio.  They also conduct yearly studies with Arbitron about the role of the Internet in today’s media world.  They have more than 10,000 experienced interviewers that conduct research all over the world.

Last month, Edison published the preliminary results of a large study they conducted on American Youth in 2010.  It was a survey of the media and technology habits of people 12-24 and comparison of 2010 to 2000. This study was sponsored by Radio-Info.com

The study revealed interesting information about the radio, social networking, CD purchasing and concerts.

Because of the up-coming concert tour that Clay Aiken will be presenting in February and March, I thought I would report on some of the findings regarding music tours.

According to the Edison Research survey, 12 to 24 year olds are going to just 0.9 concerts per year on average, down from 2.1 in 2000.  That represents a 57.1 percent drop.

This downturn seems to be affecting all types of fans, from those who attend many concerts to those who only attend occasionally.

Look at the following:

  • In 2000, 24% surveyed attended 3+ shows annually
  • In 2010, that number moved to just 12%
  • In 2000, 43% reported not going to one concert
  • In 2010, that figure expanded to 64%

Why is this happening?  Edison blames the economy:

“The concert industry – once seen as the great hope of music – has been whacked by the economy.”

However, some musical experts find other reasons for the decline in concert attendance.  In his daily blog, music mogul, Bob Lefsetz stated a different reason for the decline:

“Yes, the economy affects ticket-buying, just like it affects the consumption of so many other consumer goods.  But this recession has revealed the fact that we’ve got too few desirable acts charging too much for tickets.  Concerts are not like movies, something you go to on a whim, but vacations, which you plan for and experience once a year.

First and foremost you must have desirable talent.  There’s a business in staging classic rock shows, just like there’s a business in catalog movies and music.  But the lion’s share of the revenue comes from new acts.  And new acts are overhyped and overpriced.”

Bob suggests that everyone is still trying to get rich from the music business.  He feels that many musicians overcharge for tickets and go on the road too often.  He feels they are trying to make up for the lack of money in recorded music and so they are “burning out the market.”  According to Bob, the audience is saying no more, especially at the inflated prices that are being charged.

Bob suggests that you will sell more tour tickets if you create music that people need.  It is not good enough to be a momentary hit.  He suggests that musicians need to touch souls and speak from the gut!

So, there are two different ways to look at the poll results.  Edison Research reads the numbers and blames the economy.  Bob Lefsetz blames the greedy concert world, including ticketmaster, venues, musicians and handlers. What do you think?

The Edison Research has a great deal of information about traditional radio listening.  The data from Edison shows huge dips in terrestrial radio listening.  However, the radio still plays a large role in the discovery of new artists, new music, and upcoming concerts.

In this era of the changing music and concert business, I find it wonderful that Clay Aiken is able to continue to tour and presents concerts that are exciting and “Touch the Soul.”

If you are interested in more information on the Edison Music Study, you can read the entire report at EdisonResearch.  It is certainly full of eye-opening information.  And, if you want to read more from Bob Lefsetz, you can visit his BLOG.

Recently, the Beau Rivage hotel was named one of the top 500 hotels in the world by Travel and Leisure Magazine.  In their review, they called the hotel a “waterfront resort that’s like Vegas on the Gulf Coast.”

This was the seventh annual T&L 500 list and the sixth time Beau Rivage has made the list.

Beau Rivage President George Corchis Jr. said, “With a circulation of nearly one million, this award is very significant because it comes from the magazine’s readers, who are among the most sophisticated and passionate travelers in the world.”

Beau Rivage is an MGM Mirage property. It has 1,740 guest rooms and suites, 11 restaurants, four nightclubs and bars, a 1,550-seat theater, a shopping promenade with 12 shops, a spa and salon and the Tom Fazio–designed Fallen Oak golf course.

Each room offers a stunning view of the Mississippi Gulf or the Back Bay.  Room service is offered to guests 24-hours a day.

A warm climate and Beau Rivage’s waterside location offer guests opportunities for boating, fishing and relaxation on sandy beaches along the Gulf of Mexico.  The resort’s lush, tropical pool area is set oceanside and includes a poolside cafe and bar for hotel guests.  The 31-slip marina accommodates yachts up to 200-feet in length.

The resort’s 72,000 square foot casino features the excitement of table games and slot machines, offering guests 24 hour enjoyment.

This wonderful vacation spot will be an exciting place to hear Clay perform.

The Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire is also selling their tickets to the concert on

Located on the New Hampshire shoreline within an hour’s drive of Boston, Mass., Concord, N.H., and Portland, Maine, Hampton Beach has been a prime summer holiday designation for more than a century. The historic Hampton Beach Casino, built in 1899, remains a leading attraction in the New England resort area, while the adjacent Casino Ballroom, added in 1927, continually draws some of the top names in entertainment. In order to sustain its reputation as one of the best venues in which to play and hear live music, the 2,200-seat ballroom has received a major redesign of its audio and lighting systems.

The Casino Ballroom remains, in many ways, unchanged since opening its doors on the cusp of the Roaring Twenties, when it was regarded as one of the largest and most popular dance halls in the region. The ballroom’s popularity peaked in the mid-1930s, when thousands crowded onto the dance floor to swing to such headliners as Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and Count Basie. At the dawn of the rock ‘n’ roll era, The Supremes, the Four Tops, and Peter, Paul and Mary shared the stage with the Beach Boys, the Lovin’ Spoonful, and the Fifth Dimension. The ballroom’s legacy continues with performances from Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, The Who, Led Zeppelin, and many more.

The Casino Ballroom is a unique venue and is in the middle of the summer tourist area.  It seems that this concert hall will provide a different concert atmosphere.  It will be fun to hear all about it.

Clay Aiken Releases More Tickets To Sold-Out Show
Clay Aiken fans, if you thought you were out of luck when tickets to his one-night only show sold-out, think again. A limited number of tickets will be released starting at Noon Tuesday, March 9.

Aiken originally sold out the show at the Memorial Auditorium within minutes after being on-sale to the public.

According to a press release, due to popular demand, Aiken and his production team “worked to reconfigure the stage set-up in order to release a limited number of seats that were being held for TV production”.

“I sincerely thank my fans for their support. Selling out the Memorial Auditorium in minutes is so mind blowing to me, and now luckily I can get some more fans into the audience with these extra tickets” said the singer. “I can’t wait to share the new music with everyone and I promise to make it a one of a kind, extra special show.”

Tickets will be available on Ticketmaster.com at Noon (EST) on Tuesday, March 9.

We also got information about donated tickets from The Way We Make A Difference

Clay Aiken – An Amazing Day !

By musicfan123 · Comments 8360(17)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2010%2F02%2F17%2Fclay-aiken-an-amazing-day%2FClay+Aiken+-+An+Amazing+Day+%212010-02-17+07%3A58%3A00musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D8360
Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

Tuesday, February 16, 2010………….What an amazing day for Clay Aiken fans.

It started early in the day…

  • check and update your Ticketmaster account
  • run off copy of seating chart
  • find credit card and have it handy, just in case
  • check in at the OFC
  • fire up extra computer, just in case
  • clean glasses
  • pour a cup of coffee
  • check in at the OFC
  • visit the “Bathroom”
  • remind family members to LEAVE THE ROOM
  • check in at the OFC
  • say a short prayer to the “Ticket Gods”

Finally, the time comes……..

  • What do you mean, no tickets match my request…..again and again and again
  • What do mean, the best seats available are in the last row of the balcony?
  • Things I forget to get………tissues to wipe brow…muzzle so neighbors can’t here inappropriate words
  • No tickets match my request……..except balcony, in the corner!!
  • Finally, some OK tickets…….must compromise and purchase these!
  • Get aspirin and a bottle of wine
  • Feel better when you realize your Canadian friends are really in trouble

Does that sound anything like your day??

Yet, it was a wonderful day.  Clay was on-line for hours, trying to solve our problems and answering our questions.  We learned that Brian, a part of “Team Clay” worked above and beyond to help with all the glitches.

But the best part of the day was realizing that even if our seats aren’t the very best, we will be seeing and hearing an extraordinary concert on March 12th.  To a Clay Aiken fan, there is nothing better than seeing Clay live, in concert.

The relationship between Clay Aiken and his fans is very special.  There is no doubt that he cares very much about his fans and their wants and needs.  He lets us get away with so much.  I know of no other artist that allows and encourages “Clack” at concerts and doesn’t mind that half the audience in engaged in a cellcert.  I just hope that every one of us will understand when he asks us to abide by the rules for this concert.

The concert and TV special is about Clay Aiken.  It is not about Clay Aiken’s enthusiastic fans.  So, when he asks us to put all phones away, leave our cameras and videos cameras at home and not to wear clothing that is fan-centric, we need to be extra careful to follow his requests.  If he doesn’t want binoculars in the first 6 rows, we don’t get to argue with him and suggest that it’s not fair because you can’t see.  I feel for anyone who has visual problems, however, you will be there in person, you get to hear Clay sing and when you want to see the freckles on his face, watch it on TV.  This is Clay’s night.  We need to do everything we can to support him and make him even more proud of his fans.

I loved going to E-bay and seeing the auction for the VIP package.  These tickets will bring much-needed money to The National Inclusion Project.  Unfortunately, I didn’t win the lottery so I will have to miss out.  However, as an orchestral musician, sitting through the dress rehearsal would be a dream come true.

So far, fans are coming to the concert from 25 states, three Canadian provinces and from Asia.  Isn’t that amazing?

The past couple of weeks have been so much fun. And we have so much more to look forward to!  Is it March 12th yet?

Quote of the Day

It is not always about performance art, but about receiving positive energy from people with positive spirits. Sometimes we can see someone's spirit, and those are the people with great energy. Those are the people that get me through the day, especially on Broadway. -Clay Aiken
