Clay Aiken – Hoping For More News!

Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

Today is Wednesday, November 9th.  Along with most fans of Clay Aiken, I was hoping for some messages about Clay’s adventures in New York City.  Well, that didn’t happen!!  Today just has to be a better day.

So…today I thought I might write about some things that might be of interest to Clay and his fans.

First… PRNewswire reported that Songs For Japan, the unique, star-studded album collection created to help raise money for victims of Japan’s 2011 earthquake and tsunami disasters, continues to benefit the survivors through Japanese Red Cross Society.  Yesterday in Tokyo, senior executives from four major music companies – EMI, Sony Music, Universal Music and Warner Music Group – met with Japanese Red Cross Society Vice President, Yoshiharu Otsuka, to recognize the milestone of $10 million raised and donated from the global sales of Songs For Japan.

As someone who has family (inlaws) in Japan, this is something that I find exciting.

Before I knew about Clay Aiken, I didn’t know much about the Wake Forest School District, but Clay, through his blogs, let us know that there was trouble going on in the school district.

I learned that the Wake Forest Schools were some of the best in the nation until some extremists took over the school board and decided to go backwards instead of forwards.  Clay wasn’t shy in stating his opinions about what was happening.

On Tuesday, the voters stood up and decided to challenge some of the changes.  According to The New And Observer:

The new Democratic majority will now chart Wake’s direction on challenging issues such the role of diversity in the new student assignment plan, dealing with a tight budget next year and planning for the next bond referendum.

I am sure this vote put a smile on Clay’s face!!

360 degrees from this information is the following news.  In a move that falls right in line with the old adage “actions speak louder than words,” director Brett Ratner has stepped down as the producer of the 2012 Academy Awards. It seems that Ratner threw out some gay slurs last Monday.  It seems his mouth opened before his brain went to work.

Academy President, Tom Sherak said:

He did the right thing for the Academy and for himself.  Words have meaning, and they have consequences. Brett is a good person, but his comments were unacceptable. We all hope this will be an opportunity to raise awareness about the harm that is caused by reckless and insensitive remarks, regardless of the intent.

Yes…it will be a good time when slurs about any people are not accepted in the world.  This is a good start!

Did you see the nominees for the People’s Choice Awards that were announced on Tuesday?  Some of the categories are interesting:

Being completely honest…. I don’t care…now, if they had Clay’s name on the list, I would be very interested!!  What about you??

Oh… one more thing I learned on Tuesday…  According to Wikipedia:

A stallion is a male horse that has not been gelded.

I also learned that stallions need oats!!  Oats are always the number one choice of grain in feeding horses.  Lets all make sure the stallion get his oats!!

Clay Aiken – MTV for the Digital Age

By musicfan123 · Comments 7323(11)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2009%2F12%2F10%2Fclay-aiken-mtv-for-the-digital-age%2FClay+Aiken+-+MTV+for+the+Digital+Age2009-12-10+08%3A20%3A26musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D7323
Thursday, December 10th, 2009

On December 8, 2009, a new site was launched on the web.  Named Vevo, the site aims to be the MTV of the Web.  The musical video site is backed by Universal, Sony and EMI and was created by YouTube.

According to Doug Morris, the chairman and chief executive of Universal Music, “Vevo is a chance, perhaps the chance to please stop playing defense,  Vevo is a huge platform, and you know what’s best of all?  It’s our platform.”

Plans for Vevo were first announced in April. YouTube described Vevo as a “premium online music video hub” that will be powered by YouTube’s video technology. Users can access the content via Vevo.com or through a new Vevo YouTube channel, which will include a Vevo-branded embedded player.

Rio Caraeff is the chief executive of Vevo.  He said in an interview that, “It will be a higher-quality experience around music and videos than anything else that’s currently out there.”  He also said that the site would host 30,000 music videos by the end of the year.  Vevo will carry original programs by artist for their fans.  It will also contain programming from CBS radio stations.

The idea is to create an MTV for the digital age.  They want a music site where all the latest and archived videos can be found.

This is a difficult time for music companies as they are losing revenue and profits due to the combined impact of falling sales and online piracy.   Vevo presents a new method for fans to discover new music.

How does Clay Aiken fit into this?  Well, I am really looking forward to seeing professional videos of Clay singing new songs from his first CD from Decca.

Clay Aiken – Changes to Occur at Universal Music

By musicfan123 · Comments 6918(13)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2009%2F11%2F04%2Fclay-aiken-changes-to-occur-at-universal-music%2FClay+Aiken+-+Changes+to+Occur+at+Universal+Music2009-11-04+14%3A40%3A29musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D6918

Doug Morris

Doug Morris

According to BusinessWeek, Doug Morris, the CEO of Universal Music Group will be stepping down from his position.  Morris, who will be 71 in November, is expected to remain as chairman and has said publicly that he does not intend to retire.

The successor to run the world’s largest music company has already been chosen.  Lucian Grainge who’s the international chief will take over the CEO slot for Universal Music whose artists include Clay Aiken, U2, Elton John and Mariah Carey.

The timing of the executive changes has still not been worked out, but it is rumored to happen this summer.

Lucian Grainge is 49 years old and highly regarded by the executives at Universal’s parent company, Vivendi.  Morris will continue to work on key projects for Universal, but will turn over day-to-day operations to Grainge.

At the beginning of his career, Morris was a songwriter and then a record producer.  He was president of Warner Music in 1994 and eventually moved to Universal Music.  Universal currently sells more than one-third the music sold in the U.S.

At Universal, Morris became the industry leader in pushing for digital distribution of music. Universal was the first label to sign on with Steve Jobs’ iTunes, helping to pave the way for other labels to sign on before Apple launched the music service in 2003. Morris was also a key player in the music industry’s fight with Jobs that pressured the Apple CEO to offer variable pricing, by which iTunes now charges more to download just released music and less for songs from a label’s catalog.

Based in London at this time, Lucian Grainge has three school-age children and recently purchased a home in Connecticut.  It is expected that he will wait until the end of the school year before making the move to New York.

Will these changes make any difference for Decca Records or Clay Aiken?  Probably not as there have been no rumors or announcements of any changes at this time.

Morris has a fine reputation for being a leader who looks towards the future; however, it is nice to see a younger man step into a leadership role.  It is important that whoever is in charge supports the changes that are happening in the field of music.  It is a different world and fresh ideas are so important.

Quote of the Day

It is not always about performance art, but about receiving positive energy from people with positive spirits. Sometimes we can see someone's spirit, and those are the people with great energy. Those are the people that get me through the day, especially on Broadway. -Clay Aiken
