Clay Aiken – Discussing Issues and Asking Questions

On Sunday, August 10, Clay Aiken hosted a telephone town hall attended by over 4,000 voters across North Carolina’s Second Congressional District. Clay started the call by talking about his background and his decision to run for Congress.

The town hall lasted 45 minutes and Clay answered questions from the voters in North Carolina.

I have to admit that I knew very little about telephone town halls so I tried to find some information about what they really are and why they are important. According to what I read:

A Telephone Town Hall is a large-scale town hall meeting conducted over the phone. This is done by calling voters and inviting them to join the conference call town hall meeting so they may have the opportunity to discuss issues and directly ask questions without having to leave their homes. Usually the host will make a few opening remarks, and then start taking questions from callers.

Most people feel the calls are a powerful tool for reaching out to constituents, answering questions and creating goodwill. They bring random people together for an exciting and educational conversation with the candidate. Unlike in-person meetings, questions are usually pre-screened by staff and hecklers can be cut off with a simple mute button.

Clay and his team were excited about the success of the Telephone Town Hall…so much so that the information is on posted on Clay’s website. They even included two sections of audio from the call. I hope you will go over there to read and listen at Clay’s website. CLAYAIKEN
