February 7, 2004 was a typical Saturday night. At 11:30pm, televisions all over the US switched to NBC to watch the popular show, Saturday Night Live. The guest host of the evening was Megan Mullally, but the star of the evening was Clay Aiken.
The preceding week, NBC teased their audience with lots of fun promos for the show and each one showed Clay just being his “funny” self. There was even one with a “pasty” that was a parody on the Super Bowl Halftime Show.
Most Clay Aiken fans knew the night was going to be great as soon as we saw Clay jump on stage dressed in a white tux and belting out “She’s So Hot!”
Clay was actively involved throughout the show. One of the highlights was a skit about getting into the Grammy Awards. The ill-fitted suit, the curly wig, the exaggerated accent and especially the “Aiken Wink” made Trey Aiken and the skit a highlight of the entire season.
Besides acting, Clay sang “Invisible” and “The Way.” When the show was over, it was fun to see all the cast hugging each other and congratulating Clay for the great job that he did.

Please don’t forget to add your song choices to the February 6th blog!!
It's hard to believe that it's been 6 years since Clay did SNL. He was so good on it, and loved the opening number. The video clip from the monologue won't open for me…but I do remember it well. Let's hope Clay gets to host SNL down the road…..I'm sure he will…he is so diversified.
Hugs,
Judy
What a treat that was. Clay was just awesome singing Invisible..and when he sang The Way..it was very thudworthy. I loved Trey Aiken. That wink gets me every time. Lol!! Hope he gets a chance to be on SNL again this year.
I'm hoping to see Clay Aiken on SNL again. He can host, act in skits, and sing. He'd be great!
Clay is such a cutie pie!! I loved the anticipation of this show and the excitement that Clay was a part of this show. Thanks for reminding us of the fun.
Fun to see these videos again. Thanks
That was an amazing night watching him on this show that I really never watch since it is very late for me … I taped it and watched it over and over…. Clay was so good on it – that part of him wanna get in the Grammys with out a ticket was so funny. And that curly hair that almost didn't look like him. Hope we get to see more Clay on shows like that.
I am a huge Clay fan but did not appreciate the opening skit in the white suit – given that it was a "gay men's choir" singing to Megan, to me it was pushing the envelope (since at that time, there were only rumors that he was gay). JMO. Otherwise, it was a fab show.
I loved Clay Aiken's appearance on SNL. I loved his Trey Aiken character too. It surprised me that it was so long ago. Time sure has flown by since we first saw Clay!
I didnt see this when it was on TV, but have seen Clack. Verra funny!
