Clay Aiken – A Home Run!

I live in Northern California so I was busy for a few hours Wednesday evening watching Game 1 of the World Series.  It was a home game for the Giants who won over the Detroit Tigers with a score of 8 to 3.

I listened to the current American Idol winner, Phillip Phillips sing a relaxed rendition of the Star Spangled Banner.  It was a solid performance.

Do you remember when Clay Aiken sang at the first game of the World Series?  It was on October 18, 2003.  The game was between the New York Yankees and the Florida Marlins.  Clay sang a beautiful anthem.  It was filled with perfect pitch, excellent articulation, a touch of reverence, and a short pause when the jets arrived early.  I think it was one of the only times  I was nervous for Clay.  I just wanted it to be perfect and it was!

I hope you enjoy the following pictures and the video of the event.  It was an exciting time.

Did you watch Clay when he sang at the World Series?

  1. Oh yes I DID! Many many times AFTER that too! He did such an amazing job and we were so proud of him! Perfect rendition I might add! In my opinion he does it better than anyone I know! Whitney Houston comes in second for me LOL! Thanks musicfan!

  2. Wow! Clay sang sooo beautifully, his Mom must be so proud, just love him, his voice, his personality and he's sexy too. Thanks musicfan xox

  3. I listened to this so many times after he sang. Could not get enough.
    "…the land of the freeeeeeeeeeeeeeee"!!
I watched and I was a bundle of nerves. I was always nervous for him when he was making a televised appearance. Not nervous for him any more. He has shown himself to be a confident performer who always "brings it".

  4. It must have been difficult singing while hearing the echo, but Clay did it perfectly. He looked wonderful in that white turtleneck sweater and navy jacket. The crowd erupted in cheers when he finished the song (and I did too).

  5. I sure did watch this performance..and many, many times after that. I am so proud of our boy (man, now). It was just perfect!

  6. I definitely remember waiting for Clay to sing the SSB. He did a great job as always!!!!!! Thanks Musicfan for the pictures and video…I love going back and remembering. Seems so long ago.

  7. I do remember watching Clay sing the SSB and doing a great job. More than anyone else I have ever heard, I love Clay's version of singing it the best. I loved watching it again!
