Sunday In The Park With Clay – Oops…George!!

No, No…No panic.  Yes…this is a blog about the talented Clay Aiken.

But for some reason, this musical came into my mind when I was trying to decide what to write about today

…and it wouldn’t go away…so…

Sunday In The Park With George is a Broadway musical written by the talented Stephen Sondheim.

Inspired by the painting,  A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte by Georges Seurat, Sunday in the Park with George, merges past and present into beautiful, poignant truths about life, love and the creation of art.

The Broadway production of the show opened in 1984.  The musical won the 1985 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, two Tony Awards, and many Drama Desk Awards.

I have to admit that I have never seen the live show, but I have heard the music many times.  My favorite recording is the original Broadway production starring Mandy Patinkin and Bernadette Peters.  The orchestration is absolutely beautiful!

  1. Thank you for all the pictures of Clay. All are beautiful. I hope you can have a great day at the park. Thank you CANN.

  2. I have seen the musical well done on stage locally. Our town has the complete Seurat painting done with clipped hedges in a city park! I love the last photo you posted of the bridge in Central Park. When Clay was in my town, he performed outdoors in the spring as the trees were leafing out and the full moon was rising.
    Good memories.
