American Idol, Season II was full of surprises. It was an exciting time for the performers and the audience
The third elimination night was one of those surprising times. Just as everyone had settled down to hear Disco Music, the theme for the night was changed. “Country-Rock”……..what is Country-Rock? Wearing a cowboy hat, Ryan Seacrest said: The theme for tonight is the intricate fusion between country and rock.
The guest judge for this night was Olivia Newton-John.
Singing Brian White’s hit, Someone Else’s Star, Clay Aiken was the highlight of the evening. Randy, Paula, and Olivia gave Clay a short standing ovation.
Simon thought it was sweet, but just like his last performance.

Do you ever watch the Newer American Idol ?
I have not watched AI for many years. The show has changed a lot since the good old days when the ‘kids’ were there to just sing and not to have the latest style of clothing, etc. Clay & Ruben would be too ‘plain’ for the show now.
First of all, I don’t watch American Idol since season 4. Right now it’s just another talent show with too much glitz! I love Clay’s rendition of “Someone Else’s Star”. Simon is so hard to please;. Thank you, CANN for sharing!
Clay singing “Someone Else’s Star” was done very nicely and I watched AI for just a few seasons after Clay and Ruben. I have not watched after that. Like others have said it’s just too different in too many ways. They will never have another
