Clay Aiken – Finding Good Music

If you are reading this blog, chances are you are a fan of Clay Aiken. So…it follows that you are probably a fan of good music.  Most fans of good music are interested in finding the best place to hear and purchase their musical choices.  Apple and iTunes is hoping that they will be your choice of new music purchases.

On September 1, 2010, Steve Jobs presented some facts about Apple and iTunes that are very interesting.  He started his presentation with some very impressive statistics.

  • There are currently 300 Apple stores, in 10 countries.
  • There are in excess of 1 million visitors to those stores on most days.
  • iTunes has 160 million active accounts
  • 12 million songs in the iTunes store
    • 450 million TV episodes downloaded via iTunes
    • 11.7 billion songs downloaded from iTunes
    • 100 million movies downloaded via iTunes
    • 35 million books downloaded via iTunes

These numbers seem pretty impressive.

After presenting the statistics, Mr. Jobs announced the unveiling of iTunes 10.  An unexpected announcement was the introduction of Ping on iTunes. With it, users will be able to follow friends and see what music they have bought or enjoyed, what concerts they plan to attend and what music they have reviewed. They will also be able to follow bands and get updates on their new releases, concert tours and other events.

The service will be instantly available to 160 million iTunes users once they download the latest version of the software, the NY Times reports.

Mr. Jobs also announced a new iTune logo. He said:

“Since iTunes is about to bypass CDs in sales, we thought it was appropriate to ditch the CD.”

OLD LOGO

NEW LOGO

Do you like the new logo better than the old one?  Do you use iTunes?

  1. Thank you for a very interesting article. I still prefer the actual cd but I am using iTunes also since that's the way music seems to be heading.

  2. Very interesting, but I won't give my opinion about iTunes (it isn't very positive). I love digital downloads though – that's my favorite way to get new music!!

  3. Yes……….I am a fan of Clay Aiken and a fan of good music.

I use i-tunes all the time. I find it easy and rely on it for finding what I want.

    Thanks for the information.

  4. I am a fan of good music – hence Clay Aiken.
Thank you for explaining the article. I got an email from iTunes wanting me to upgrade.
I was looking today for a new CD player and I did not see one. The players that I saw were for iPods and iPhones with another connector for an mp3 player. My son bought a new radio for his car and it does not have a CD player in it. Just a connector for and iPod or iPhone or mp3 player. Looks like CDs are going to be a thing of the past. I still like to have one in my hand!

I don't care for iTunes new logo. I prefer the old one.

  5. This was a great article. I had no idea ITunes had that many followers or "power". I do use Itunes some, it looks like I will use it more in the future. I want to find Clay Aiken songs (good music) wherever I can. I like the new logo because it does clearly show that Itunes will be replacing the physical cd as the most used way to obtain music. Thanks so much for posting this timely article.

  6. I prefer other music sites for my downloads. I don't think highly of I-tunes website and the way I have to stop it from automatically becoming the default player for my mp3's. Digital Downloads are very convenient and will become the only way to get music, but I hope someone else takes the lead from I tunes.

  7. I'm not a big music downloader on itunes etc. I like the actual CD in my hands. Guess I'm getting old. *g*

  8. I'm not sure if I like the new logo or not…I mean it looks fine… It's the way of the future…I know for me, I have always liked to have something substantial in my hands…but "times are a changing".
I just got an iPhone today, and will put my music on there. So I guess I will see….I'm new to these things, but am trying to keep up to date..

And the mention of good Music…well…Clay Aiken and good music just go together!!!!!!

    Hugs,
    Judy

  9. I Tunes vs. CDs — I appreciate both. The I Tunes for my I pod, while driving or moving about. The CD, which I use with my wall mounted CD player, while I'm reading in my bedroom.

The new I Tunes logo is okay but a bit plain. I prefer the original, which appears to be more colorful and lively.
