Clay Aiken – Moving Fast

By musicfan123 · Comments 15100(15)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2012%2F03%2F08%2Fclay-aiken-moving-fast%2FClay+Aiken+-+Moving+Fast2012-03-08+09%3A03%3A18musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2Findex.php%3Fp%3D15100
Thursday, March 8th, 2012

The week is moving fast.  It is already Thursday and in just a few days, Clay Aiken will be on television again.

Everyday, I check Google search, looking for interesting mentions about Clay Aiken, his career and his favorite charities.  Wednesday, when I checked, I found lots of fun things.

Talk TV World published some interesting information about Celebrity Apprentice and Mark Burnett.  According to their site:

As part of its recent agreement with Mark Burnett’s One Three Television, Beverly Hills-based tech company ACTV8.ME has announced The Celebrity Apprentice will become interactive starting this Sunday March 11th 2012. Download the app at iTunes store…and soon the Android App store.

The Celebrity Apprentice app will take viewers with iPhones, iPads and soon Android devices further into the show at all levels. The app provides interactivity, social game mechanics, community sharing, and e-offers in the form of real-time digital coupons and currency from major TV advertisers. The second screen, synchronized app will also feature exclusive extra content, celebrity bios and scoops, insights and games, trivia, and other enhancements that are ACTV8.ME’s hallmarks. The Celebrity Apprentice app will be featuring exclusive giveaways, with cash prizes and a chance to win an all new Buick Verano.

Interesting…I would love to win tickets to the finale of Celebrity Apprentice.  I also believe that it is very important that all Clay fans sign up for the “app”.  I feel sure that this offer is being monitored by NBC/Celebrity Apprentice and Mark Burnett.  You can get more information at INTERACTIVE.

Donald Trump had a short interview with Access Hollywood on Wednesday.  I am trying to figure out why you can’t be tough, smart and also be a singer…What do you think?  You can see the short interview on video by clicking HERE.

NBC-Celebrity Apprentice published a poll that asks the reader to choose between two videos.  The first is the men’s team and the second, the ladies.  As I post this, the men are losing 48% to 52%.  Why not take a moment and vote for Clay’s team.  POLL

One of my favorite blogs about Celebrity Apprentice is titled TV Gasm.  This site writes a great play by play after each episode.  They are quite accurate in their reporting, but the jokes and pictures are the best.  Be sure and check this out.  It is worth the time.  The following is what they say about Clay:

…In the men’s room, George thinks they have to dress four windows, instead of the two assigned. The men begin to fear for their leader. As Clay puts it, George is a little slower to process information and it is a little tougher for him to keep up with things. What Clay is gingerly trying to get at is that George’s brain is getting old. The man is 74 years old, so he is certainly inclined to forget a few things every now and then…

Clay encourages the team to come up with a theme for the windows and George points out it is spring time. Not winter or fall. Spring…

…Eric corners Clay and asks him how George is doing as project manager. Clay proves he has a promising career in politics as he manages to avoid admitting George has no control and spinning things to point out the positive that people are being allowed to shine with their natural strengths. Vamperic does not miss the underlying message, though…

…It is time for the big debut and George is extremely nervous. He stumbles over words trying to welcome Ivanka and AI and then he forgets Clay’s name while showing them the daytime window! I do like the men’s concept of using twins to show what the same exact woman will look like in daytime and nighttime wear. It is a good idea for a fashion simpleton such as myself…

…Next Sparks asks Clay how George was as a leader and Clay tries to say he did fine, although his voice squeaks a little during the lie. Sparks seems stumped and turns to his vampire son and asks the blood boy what it was that he said about his interaction with Clay. Vamperic says Clay laughed when asked how George was doing during the challenge. Poor Clay…

…But Clay squirms his way out of it by just talking nonsense until Sparky gets bored and moves on. I’m telling you…

It really is a fun read!!

Between all the article and the photos, I am really glad that Clay is involved in this show!

Are you ready for next Sunday?  Who do you think might be voted off next Sunday?

Clay Aiken – Bring Back My Love

By musicfan123 · Comments 13691(25)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2011%2F12%2F20%2Fclay-aiken-bring-back-my-love%2FClay+Aiken+-+Bring+Back+My+Love2011-12-20+09%3A12%3A27musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D13691

Today is December 20th…something important was supposed to happen today…oh, right….

Bring Back My Love, a new single from Clay Aiken was released today.

The Mp3 was available at midnight at both iTunes and Amazon.  Have you downloaded it yet?  After hearing the song, it’s the best 99 cents I have spent in a long time!!

Besides downloading the song, I hope you are doing a couple of other things too.

  1. Be sure and rate the song at both iTunes and Amazon.  With so many Clay fans, Clay’s average rating should be at the top.
  2. Please take a moment and write a short review of the song at both sites.  Even two sentences will help out.  When I was at Amazon, 3 hours after I downloaded the song, there was not one comment.  This is an important way to show support of the song.  Comments are important!!  I noticed that at iTunes, Clay has 20 comments.  I checked another artist who released a single today and they have almost 300 comments.  We need to step up.
  3. mjsbigblog has an article about Clay’s new song.  Have you commented there yet?  You can reach the article by clicking at MJ’S

What do you think about the single?  Have you commented at iTunes and Amazon yet?  I won’t be happy until there are 500 comments written at each site.  Think about it…if you were looking for a song to download, would you check out the song with pages of reviews, or the song with just a few comments?

On another topic…we are still getting some unexpected glitches here because of our move to a larger server.  Please hang in there with us.  Things should be updated and running smoothly very soon.  If you are having any problems, please let us know.  We want to have a great running site!

Clay Aiken And His Adventures in New York

Fans were tied to their computers on Friday, hoping to read some messages about Clay Aiken and his adventures in New York City.  The day was almost over before a great picture and mention appeared at realityaired.com.

It was fun reading all the speculation about the picture.  Most of the fans seemed to think it was a good sign… “Clay will be continuing his projects in New York.”  Others seemed unsure.  Was he a “Red Herring”, planted so that no one can guess what is happening.    Whatever, everyone seemed pleased.

‘Real Housewives of New Jersey’ star Teresa Giudice still hasn’t been fired from ‘Celebrity Apprentice’. Teresa, Clay Aiken, Aubrey O’Day and Dayana Mendoza were spotted outside the Trump Tower today. By the way, checkout that fur.

What do you think?  Is Clay safe?

On Friday, there was a huge announcement in the music recording business.  The century-old EMI Group music company has been split in two and sold for $4.1 billion to Universal Music Group and Sony Corp.  The absorption of the music giant leaves only three major record companies in control of the faltering music industry.

EMI began life as The Gramophone Company in London and was the oldest major recording company. Founded in 1931, its recording catalog includes music by The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Frank Sinatra, Coldplay, and Katy Perry and its publishing portfolio was one of the most valuable in the world. Capitol, Virgin, Blue Note and Parlophone are a few of the labels under the EMI umbrella. EMI Classics has long been one of the cornerstones of the classical industry.

Lucian Grainge is the chairman and chief executive of Universal.  He said:

…this is an historic acquisition and an important step in preserving the legacy of EMI Music.

According to Reuters, the music industry in much weaker and more fragmented than it was a decade ago and that stronger companies are needed to help protect and promote artistic talent. They also cited the rise of powerful distributors like iTunes, Google, and Amazon, which together account for about 80% of music sales, as the principal price setters in today’s market.

Is this important news for Clay Aiken?  Well, yes…Decca is part of Universal Music Group and the financial health of the company is important to all of the talent. Dave Holmes, manager of Coldplay says that this move can only be a positive for the artists and executives involved.  We can only hope that Decca and Universal will continue their support of Clay and his music.

Clay Aiken – About Being Different

Friday, October 21st, 2011

So…what was Clay Aiken doing on Thursday?  Was he baking cookies?  Selling Wedding dresses? Working on a brochure for an advertising Campaign?  Well, we don’t know.

It seems that Celebrity Apprentice has moved into a secure location and maybe we won’t get anymore great pictures or cryptic messages.  The next few weeks could end up seeming like forever.  I just hope Clay is having a wonderful time and that his team is working well to make lots of money for charity.

So…life goes on and there are others things we can discuss, even if it isn’t as much fun as news about Clay.

Everytime I read about the music industry, I relate what I read to Clay Aiken.  It is fun to agree, ponder, cheer and sometimes just shake my head.

Last Monday, Bob Lefsetz wrote an interesting blog titled I Want My MTV.  In this article, Bob reminds his readers about how MTV changed the music industry and goes on to suggest some of the influence the Internet will have on music.

Lefsetz says of MTV:

MTV changed music. I’m not talking about the music business, but the music itself. Suddenly how you looked was important. And you had to fit the genre the station was promoting… Suddenly, music was all about the heavily-promoted, the heavily-marketed, it was made by beautiful people for everyone, and the people who weren’t beautiful, who’d lived a life of rejection, who considered music their own private playground, tuned out….Either you were on MTV or you were history. Either you were monstrous or you were irrelevant.

In the MTV era the music came first. If it wasn’t an approved genre, you were SOL. Sure, you had to look good and have money behind you, but if you didn’t sound like what MTV was playing, you had no chance. Now just the opposite is true. The way you connect with your fans comes first. The bond is the initial attraction. The music comes last. The point is the music can sound like anything, there are no limits, no rules, no genres you must fall into. You’ve just got to have a relationship with your fans and consistently honor it, put them ahead of all other interests.

Bob goes on to say that to day, online music is about being different…people are tired of the clones and want someone who is unique.  Lefsetz wrote seven suggestions for todays musician.

1. Dream small.

This is the opposite of the MTV era aspiration, when it was about getting on television and reaching everybody. Today your goal is to reach somebody, a single person, and then have the word spread from there. You can build something completely new or tap into a niche, but if you’re playing for everybody online doesn’t want you. Online is about the site that only appeals to you. Mass is a lucky accident after the fact.

2. Success is bidirectional.

You must know your audience and listen to it. If you’re playing to everybody you’re gonna reach nobody. Try to excite one listener who will spread the word. And it doesn’t matter what age you are, oldsters are the fastest growing demo on Facebook, they’ve got iPhones too.

3. The music is important.

But it’s not the only thing. If you’re waiting for someone to write you a check so you can stay at home and create and they can sell, you’re missing the point. You rehearse in public. People weigh in on you along the way. You grow with your audience. And money comes at the end of the game. Instead of going for a big advance, be your audience’s friend, they’ll end up giving you all their money via Kickstarter and concert tickets and merch sales thereafter.

4. The music must be available.

Never say no to your music being exposed online. Unless it’s tied in with a product or pitch. Yes to YouTube, yes to Spotify, yes to iTunes. With so much information out there, it’s hard to get noticed, don’t be your own worst enemy.

5. Creativity is king!

It’s the sixties all over again. The era of Frank Zappa has returned. You want people to check out your music to see what you have to say, to marvel at the insight, the outrageousness. One striking concept is more important than tens of thousands of dollars in promotion.

6. Different is a badge of honor.

People embrace the outlier. Music has become foreground once again. Unlike the hits du jour which are used as dance club fodder and workout inspirers, people are now paying attention to what you have to say. You can’t do skin deep unless you’re purveying irony. You’ve got to go for the heart and mind.

7. Growth curves are different.

In the MTV era you were a hit overnight. If you’re a hit overnight today, you’re gone tomorrow. That’s what a YouTube phenomenon is about, that’s Rebecca Black. If you’ve got millions of views, you’re on your way to irrelevancy. You’re better off with fewer hits generated over a period of years. Your stuff is always available online, you never know when a new fan will encounter you and decide to check out your entire output. They don’t have to sit in front of the TV and wait for your video, it’s all sitting there online, like a land mine…

…Don’t forget that the music business was in the doldrums prior to MTV. It was rescued by something the established players did not understand.

The same thing is happening today. Not tomorrow, but right now.

If you want to have a career, play to the Web audience, don’t care what the mainstream says, don’t release music based on holidays and other arcane data. If you wrote it at midnight, have it out tomorrow. Even if it’s Sunday. Your audience is online. Ready.

Do it for them.

They’ll do it for you.

What do you think of what Bob wrote?  Do you agree with him or are you rolling your eyes?

You can read all of Bob Lefsetz at his interesting site.  Please click on his site and read the entire blog.

Now…do you think we will hear about Celebrity Apprentice today?  That would be lots of fun.

Clay Aiken – Music – 10 Years Ago

By musicfan123 · Comments 11957(7)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2011%2F09%2F10%2Fclay-aiken-music-10-years-ago%2FClay+Aiken+-+Music+-+10+Years+Ago2011-09-10+07%3A27%3A03musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D11957
Saturday, September 10th, 2011

Do any of you remember what the Music Industry Looked Like on September 11, 2001?  It’s only been 10 years, but the music world has made so many changes… can you remember?

The following is a list of some of the changes in the last decade.

  • There were 5 major labels: Warner Music Group, EMI, Sony Music Entertainment, Bertelsmann Music Group (BMG), and Universal Music Group.
  • CDs accounted for 94.5 percent of overall recorded music sales, according to the RIAA.  Cassettes still accounted for roughly 2.5 percent of the total, LPs were roughly 0.2 percent, and album downloads were essentially nonexistent.
  • The labels were on their way to concluding their third-best year ever (the best being 1999).
  • The  iPod was still two months from being announced.
  • The iTunes Music Store was still about 20 months away.
  • Mariah Carey’s Glitter Soundtrack was released on September 11th.  The movie arrived at theaters a few weeks later.
  • The song  with the most spins on radio on September 11th was “I’m Real,” by Jennifer Lopez.
  • The top-charting country single was “I’m Just Talkin’ About Tonight” by Toby Keith.
  • Justin Bieber was 7 years old.  Justin Timberlake was 20.
  • The  best-selling album on September 11th was the self-titled release from Aaliyah.  The singer had recently passed on August 25th, 2001.
  • Janet Jackson, Sade, Aerosmith, and Dave Matthews Band were dominating the live circuit.  U2 was preparing the North American leg of its Elevation tour, and actually planned the official announcement on September 11th.

When I see this list it makes me think that the technology of music has changed so much more than the artists.  All the mentioned artists except for Aaliyah, are still performing today.  However, the changes in the way we listen to music and the changes in the business of music are enormous.  It certainly makes you wonder what changes we will write about in another 10 years.  Thank you to Digital Music News for the list!

Please don’t forget to add your holiday song suggestions on September 9ths article.  The more responses, the more fun!!  Holiday music and Clay Aiken is the best partnership around.

Will you be attending the Gala in December?

Clay Aiken – I Believe We Can

By musicfan123 · Comments 11188(3)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2011%2F08%2F01%2Fclay-aiken-i-believe-we-can%2FClay+Aiken+-+I+Believe+We+Can2011-08-01+07%3A11%3A47musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D11188
Monday, August 1st, 2011

Clay Aiken was the guest star on Disney’s Phineas and Ferb on August 2, 2010.  He sang a duet with the legendary recording artist Chaka Khan.  The one hour episode, “Summer Belongs to You”, premiered on August 2, on DisneyXD and then again on August 6 on the Disney Channel.

Phineas and Ferb is known for its musical numbers, which have appeared in every episode since the first-season. The show’s creators write and record each number, and vary musical tempo depending on each song’s dramatic use. The music has gotten the series two Emmy nods for songwriting in 2008.

Clay’s song for Disney is I Believe We Can. The duet was part of an episode of titled Summer Belongs To You.  Walt Disney Records released the song on iTunes and other online retailers as a part of a digital album comprised of music from the entire TV series.

The episode and Clay’s visit got a great deal of publicity from Disney and news about the show and song was on most of the mainstream entertainment site.  The following article was published at the newsobserver.com…

Clay Aiken gets animated with “Phineas & Ferb”

You could argue that Clay Aiken has always been animated. Now he really is!

The singer appears on a special one-hour episode of the clever cartoon “Phineas & Ferb,” (Disney Channel, tonight at 8  & 11) singing a duet with Chaka Khan called “I Believe We Can.”

“Phineas & Ferb” is the story of two stepbrothers perpetually on summer vacation, who always embark on some grand project. Their sister Candace watches on angrily, but is never able to get their mom to catch them in the act. The two also have a platypus named Perry, a secret agent for an all-animal government organization that primarily takes on Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz, an evil scientist.

It sounds wacky, but trust me, it works.

Clay’s episode is about the brothers’ decision to travel around the world in a day. Clay and Chaka, through their song, offer encouragement.

I do remember waiting to see this show.  I had not seen any of the series before, but I certainly enjoyed animated Clay Aiken.

Before you click on the video below…..Don’t forget!!

Clay’s first live video chat for Fan Club members is tonight,  Monday, August 1st at 8:30pm EST. The chat will run about an hour in length.

Clay Aiken – Are You In The Clouds?

Monday, June 6th, the Apple Worldwide Developer Conference was held in San Francisco.  Steve Jobs delivered the keynote address and announced news about the new, free service, iCloud.

Jobs said the new, free service, iCloud, would replace the personal computer as the central hub of people’s digital lives by storing photos, music and documents. Relying on the PC, he said, no longer works now that millions of people have multiple devices, each with photos, documents, songs, phone applications and other files.

I would love to see all my Clay Aiken music and photos on all my computers and my iPhone.  Of course, I will have to pay the extra $25 a year to download much of my Clay Aiken library.  I have songs from concerts, TV programs and even Clay’s Pre-AI songs in my library.  But, to me, they are worth the $25 if I can listen to the songs wherever I go.

According to Jobs, there will be a new version of iTunes to help all our music and pictures join the cloud. And, the number of songs an iTunes Match subscriber can store is unlimited.

One of the interesting things that came out of the yesterday’s Apple Worldwide Developer Conference was some of the data from iTune….it is really amazing.

  • Apple is celebrating its 15 billionth song download since opening the ‘iTunes Music Store’ in mid-2003
  • Apple has sold 200 million iOS devices (including iPhones, iPod touches, iPads).
  • The iPad accounts for 25 million in sales
  • More than 14 billion apps have been sold.
  • 130 million ebooks have been purchased from the iBookstore.

It looks like Apple is not suffering during the on-going financial slowdown

If I had to guess, I would imagine that Clay Aiken would be first in line for this new iTunes feature

Do you have an iTunes account?  Is the new iTunes Cloud something you are interested in?  Do you listen to Clay on your iPod/iPhone?

Clay Aiken – Always Newsworthy

Some interesting music tech news surfaced this week.  Although the information is not about Clay Aiken, it is compelling and shows how fluid and puzzling the field of music is today.

Last week, the mobile music firm, Music WithMe, published a report on iTunes libraries.  The report said that 81% of personal iTunes collections never get played -  not even once.  Michelle Jones who is the community manager of Music WithMe said:

The average iTunes library has 5,409 songs of which 4,195 have never been played.  Put another way:  we listen to about 19% of the music we own.

Wow, that is shocking….what a waste of time and money.

Do you use iTunes?  If so, is your library close to the size of the average listed above?

A blog at CANN is not complete without some fun pictures of Clay Aiken.  The following pictures are from Clay’s performance at Broadway Backwards last January.

Quote of the Day
