Clay Aiken And His Adventures in New York

Fans were tied to their computers on Friday, hoping to read some messages about Clay Aiken and his adventures in New York City.  The day was almost over before a great picture and mention appeared at realityaired.com.

It was fun reading all the speculation about the picture.  Most of the fans seemed to think it was a good sign… “Clay will be continuing his projects in New York.”  Others seemed unsure.  Was he a “Red Herring”, planted so that no one can guess what is happening.    Whatever, everyone seemed pleased.

What do you think?  Is Clay safe?

On Friday, there was a huge announcement in the music recording business.  The century-old EMI Group music company has been split in two and sold for $4.1 billion to Universal Music Group and Sony Corp.  The absorption of the music giant leaves only three major record companies in control of the faltering music industry.

EMI began life as The Gramophone Company in London and was the oldest major recording company. Founded in 1931, its recording catalog includes music by The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Frank Sinatra, Coldplay, and Katy Perry and its publishing portfolio was one of the most valuable in the world. Capitol, Virgin, Blue Note and Parlophone are a few of the labels under the EMI umbrella. EMI Classics has long been one of the cornerstones of the classical industry.

Lucian Grainge is the chairman and chief executive of Universal.  He said:

…this is an historic acquisition and an important step in preserving the legacy of EMI Music.

According to Reuters, the music industry in much weaker and more fragmented than it was a decade ago and that stronger companies are needed to help protect and promote artistic talent. They also cited the rise of powerful distributors like iTunes, Google, and Amazon, which together account for about 80% of music sales, as the principal price setters in today’s market.

Is this important news for Clay Aiken?  Well, yes…Decca is part of Universal Music Group and the financial health of the company is important to all of the talent. Dave Holmes, manager of Coldplay says that this move can only be a positive for the artists and executives involved.  We can only hope that Decca and Universal will continue their support of Clay and his music.

  1. My faith in Clay is very strong – he is still there – and hopefully will be to the end!!! 🙂

Don't know much about the Music Industry – but will always pray that Clay comes out on top – if
    that is what he wants!!!

  2. Yay! I can't imagine CA going through the whole red herring process so I think Clay is probably still in it to win it! 🙂 Go Clay!

It's interesting where the music industry is going these days and I'm still not sure what it all means. All I wish is the best for Clay so he can continue making music.

  3. Well, the guesstimate makeup of the remaining 2011 Celebrity Apprentice competitors is certainly a puzzle. My first impression of the latest Clay photo was that he was in serious thought and not too concerned about putting on a smiling face. A lot of possibilities have been floated about – but I'm of the mind that Clay is still in the running. Hope so anyway. Holding on to those positive thoughts.

Not much concerned about the music industry buy outs and or mergers. They'll do their thing and Clay will find a way to work with/or around it. He's had a lot of experience with that scenario. He is a survivor, with a passion for singing and helping those who are less fortunate by whatever way he can. Let the adventures continue.

  4. Love the picture of Clay and Teresa, but they both seem very serious! CApp must be ending filming soon.
The music industry is a question. They need to change, but what changes will work both for them and the artists?

  5. Thank you for another informative blog. I love the new picture of Clay and I think he is still going…good for him!!

As for the music industry, they are not moving with the times and I find it sad. It seems all wrong when the "suits" make more money than the artists!!

  6. Again another great article. I learn so much when I read here. Love the new pic of Clay, praying he is still in the running.

  7. I believe that Clay is still going strong in CApp. He's a smart guy, and I truly believe that his goal was to make as much for NIP as possible…That is first and foremost…

The music industry…I don't know what to think about any of it. I don't listen to much, other than Clay anymore. I do not like todays music at all. I hate Rap, Hip Hop, and am not into Country… Just give me a singer with a great voice (CLAY) and I am a happy camper. I do hope that they resolve whatever they need to do, because the music industry is really in a decline.

  8. I had no clue Google was involved in the music industry. I'm cautiously optomistic that Clay is still in it to win it. Hope he survives the next boardroom.

  9. As of this comment, Clay's still in it (that's what I firmly believe). Ask again tomorrow, there's a boardroom tonight…….

I don't think it really matters what the music industry does – they're in deep doo doo, they don't seem to care about changing, and they can merge down to one single entity and it still won't matter. They must change with the times.

It's kind of like radio – DJs across the country have been laid off due to drop in listenership. Now, a logical person would be looking at why they are losing listeners (my guess is they play the same 10 songs over and over and over – you cannot find new music on the radio anymore, just the same crap day after day). Instead, the industry cut costs rather than trying to fix the problem. The same holds true for the music industry.

    =) Happy Saturday!

  10. CANN you have done it again. Another great blog about both Clay and the music industry. Thanks for all of your hard work in getting the news out.

  11. Thanks so much for that adorable picture of Clay. I believe he is in it to win it…after all, he is working for the National Inclusion Project, isn't he? Nothing will stop him there. Don't really pay much attention to any of the music of today. I think it is all crap. But, as long as I can hear Clay sing, I will be happy.
