Clay Aiken – What Do You Think?

After a week of tweets, blogs and surprises, Friday, January 27th  ended up being a day to catch up!  No one seemed to know if Clay Aiken had overworked his twitter fingers, was enjoying family time, was traveling, lost his phone, or just decided to take a breather.  Yeah…we get spoiled.  After so much news all week, most fans were missing the “twitter master.”

However, there was some great information found at Amazon.  Instead of the empty box that was supposed to be Steadfast, they posted a cover that just might be the real deal.  It looked much like the artwork for Bring Back My Love, but the lighting was different and the colors a bit more muted.  As always, the fans had fun talking about the great picture and the great music they hope are included on the playlist!

Below is a picture that was posted at Amazon.  What do you think?

It all started in Atlanta, Georgia on January 28th, 2003, when millions of people were introduced to a skinny redhead who wore glasses and had a unique fashion style. The American Idol judges looked skeptical and no one knew what to expect.

But like your mother used to say, don’t judge a book by its cover. Clay Aiken opened his mouth to sing and the incredible voice that poured out amazed everyone.

“Why are you here?” Clay spread his hands and stated simply; “Because I am the next American Idol.”

The skeptical judges watched and listened as Clay sang an excerpt from the 80’s song, Always and Forever and demonstrated his rich, clear voice.

Randy Jackson wanted to know where the voice came from and Simon Cowell suggested that he didn’t look like a pop star. But, it’s all about the voice and so Clay, the unlikely pop star, made his first steps on an incredible journey.

The voice continued to amaze through the following weeks. Clayton Aiken became Clay Aiken. He not only looked like a pop star, he became one.

Please watch this incredible audition here.

Clay Aiken – Bring Back My Love

Today is December 20th…something important was supposed to happen today…oh, right….

Bring Back My Love, a new single from Clay Aiken was released today.

The Mp3 was available at midnight at both iTunes and Amazon.  Have you downloaded it yet?  After hearing the song, it’s the best 99 cents I have spent in a long time!!

Besides downloading the song, I hope you are doing a couple of other things too.

  1. Be sure and rate the song at both iTunes and Amazon.  With so many Clay fans, Clay’s average rating should be at the top.
  2. Please take a moment and write a short review of the song at both sites.  Even two sentences will help out.  When I was at Amazon, 3 hours after I downloaded the song, there was not one comment.  This is an important way to show support of the song.  Comments are important!!  I noticed that at iTunes, Clay has 20 comments.  I checked another artist who released a single today and they have almost 300 comments.  We need to step up.
  3. mjsbigblog has an article about Clay’s new song.  Have you commented there yet?  You can reach the article by clicking at MJ’S

What do you think about the single?  Have you commented at iTunes and Amazon yet?  I won’t be happy until there are 500 comments written at each site.  Think about it…if you were looking for a song to download, would you check out the song with pages of reviews, or the song with just a few comments?

On another topic…we are still getting some unexpected glitches here because of our move to a larger server.  Please hang in there with us.  Things should be updated and running smoothly very soon.  If you are having any problems, please let us know.  We want to have a great running site!

Clay Aiken And His Adventures in New York

Fans were tied to their computers on Friday, hoping to read some messages about Clay Aiken and his adventures in New York City.  The day was almost over before a great picture and mention appeared at realityaired.com.

It was fun reading all the speculation about the picture.  Most of the fans seemed to think it was a good sign… “Clay will be continuing his projects in New York.”  Others seemed unsure.  Was he a “Red Herring”, planted so that no one can guess what is happening.    Whatever, everyone seemed pleased.

What do you think?  Is Clay safe?

On Friday, there was a huge announcement in the music recording business.  The century-old EMI Group music company has been split in two and sold for $4.1 billion to Universal Music Group and Sony Corp.  The absorption of the music giant leaves only three major record companies in control of the faltering music industry.

EMI began life as The Gramophone Company in London and was the oldest major recording company. Founded in 1931, its recording catalog includes music by The Beatles, Pink Floyd, Frank Sinatra, Coldplay, and Katy Perry and its publishing portfolio was one of the most valuable in the world. Capitol, Virgin, Blue Note and Parlophone are a few of the labels under the EMI umbrella. EMI Classics has long been one of the cornerstones of the classical industry.

Lucian Grainge is the chairman and chief executive of Universal.  He said:

…this is an historic acquisition and an important step in preserving the legacy of EMI Music.

According to Reuters, the music industry in much weaker and more fragmented than it was a decade ago and that stronger companies are needed to help protect and promote artistic talent. They also cited the rise of powerful distributors like iTunes, Google, and Amazon, which together account for about 80% of music sales, as the principal price setters in today’s market.

Is this important news for Clay Aiken?  Well, yes…Decca is part of Universal Music Group and the financial health of the company is important to all of the talent. Dave Holmes, manager of Coldplay says that this move can only be a positive for the artists and executives involved.  We can only hope that Decca and Universal will continue their support of Clay and his music.

Clay Aiken – Making An Impact

At the end of 2007, a book titled Chicken Soup for the American Idol Soul was released. As I was looking around on the internet today, I found the story that Clay Aiken related in the popular book. I had never read it before so I thought there might be others who had not read it either. Please enjoy! This book is still available so why not stop by Amazon and pick up a copy. If the other stories are as good as Clay’s story, I am sure it would be a good read.

“As I’m signing autographs, a very petite, pretty girl walks up to me and says, “Your ‘Invisible’ video made such an impact on my life.” I didn’t want to argue with her, but I thought she must have gotten that confused with some other video I’d done. ”

“I thought it couldn’t have been ‘Invisible.’ That was just a self-congratulatory video of me singing on the stage in the middle of Hollywood Boulevard with a bunch of people cheering. There was no story line; there was nothing inspirational about it. How in the world could that video have impacted anybody?” “Are you sure you don’t mean some other video?” I asked.

“”No, I’m sure it was ‘Invisible,” she said. I asked her to please explain, and she did. “Well, Clay, I used to weigh about 200 pounds.” She paused. “You look great, but what does that have to do with ‘Invisible’?” “When I saw the girl on the stage with you in that video and you put your arm around her, it made me feel so much better about myself, because you had an overweight girl in your video, and you accepted her. ”

“Because of that, I was finally able to accept myself. After that, my whole life changed, and I lost 90 pounds.” Then it dawned on me what she was referring to. While we were making the video, the music director had pulled someone out of the audience and put her on the stage with me. She wasn’t hugely overweight; she was just a healthy-looking girl, but I guess she didn’t exactly fit the image of what people usually see on music videos. ”

“She wasn’t stick-thin or model-gorgeous, but I never thought anything of it. ” “Thank you so much for sharing that with me,” I said, but a simple thank you was hardly adequate for the gift that young lady had given me. Her words led me to the realization that you never know the one thing you do that is going to impact someone’s life. I try to set the right example, but that day I realized that even things I would never think would make an impact do. ”

“I never would have thought that video would have affected anybody in any kind of positive way, and lo and behold, it did. The person it affected most was me. I realized that from then on, I was going to have normal, average, everyday-looking people in all my videos. I literally had to fight with the people from my record label. They were not going to let me do it. “

“They said that the video wouldn’t sell, but I wouldn’t budge. When we made the video I told them I didn’t want any anorexic-looking girls or model-perfect guys. If we did have beautiful people, I wanted the beautiful girl to be with the overweight guy, and the average-looking girl with the model guy. I wanted people to know it doesn’t matter what you look like, that everyone is good enough. ”

“I realized that’s why “Idol” has the impact it does. You never see a contestant with that music-video look. It’s about real people, and I think the reason why Season Two was so exciting is because not only were Ruben, Kimberly, and I all from out in the middle of nowhere, Podunk, but we were all extremely normal, average-looking people. We would have never gotten record contracts if it weren’t for that show: Ruben being such a big guy; Kimberly, who was gorgeous, but a plus-size woman; and me. I was a dork, and I still am a dork. ”

“We’re all just normal people from down the street and around the block. The final realization I had that day in Atlanta is that it’s not just people who are in the public eye who have an impact on others. You don’t have to make a music video to make a difference in someone’s life. You can be a bagger at a grocery store or a teller at a bank. You never know when something you do is going to impact someone’s life without you even knowing it. ”

Clay Aiken – Yes…We Can!!

Are you a fan of Clay Aiken?  Do you want to know why you should seriously consider becoming an active member of FaceBook, Twitter, and YouTube…why it is important that you read and comment at blogs and articles about Clay?  If you read the following information, I hope you will see why it is paramount that we all participate in the social/digital world of a musician.

On July 20th, Big Champagne unveiled The Ultimate Chart at the New Music Seminar in New York City.

The purpose of the Ultimate Chart is to update old methods that were used to track the popularity of songs and artists. For years, Billboard charts have ranked musicians by sales only. The Ultimate Chart uses everything from Amazon downloads and YouTube/Vevo views to Facebook fans and Twitter followers to provide the music industry a chart for the digital age.

Eric Garland, the CEO of Big Champagne said:

“For the first time this is getting beyond but not leaving behind traditional sales and airplay. What we’ve tried to do is take everything we know about the ways in which artists and their fans connect and put that into one measure, so that we really know where we stand.”

Big Champagne’s partners and sources for the Ultimate Chart include retailers, online and traditional broadcasters (radio and television), major content companies, subscription services, social networks and other venues where fans demonstrate their passion for music. These include: Yahoo! Music, Amazon, iTunes, YouTube, VEVO, MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, MTV, ClearChannel, MediaBase, AOL, Napster, Microsoft Zune, We Are Hunted, LastFM and many more.

Data provided by Big Champagne is being used by major music companies to make decisions about signing artists and promoting music online and to radio stations.   Broadcasters use Big Champagne to help determine the list of songs performed on commercial radio and music television.

Tamara Conniff is the Founder/Editor of The Comet and a former Billboard Editor-in-Chief and Associate Publisher.  She is a huge fan of the Ultimate Chart:

“This chart is long overdue and represents for the first time an
accurate view of where popular music is today. Music is not just about sales, it’s about interaction—listening, watching, playlisting, evangelizing and socializing. The Comet will be publishing the Ultimate Chart and using Big Champagne’s data for analysis, prediction, and consumer trends.”

The following chart is an example of how Big Champagne comes up with their figures.  It does seem like a more concise way of measuring celebrity relevance in the entertainment field.

The Ultimate chart is the up and coming way to compare the relevancy of stars.  It is being posted at many of the top music webpages.

I thought a chart that compares some FaceBook and Twitter numbers would help to see the big picture.  The Facebook column is the number of friends and the twitter column is the number of people following the singer.

I have read on many of the Clay Aiken boards that many of his fans are a bit afraid of FaceBook and Twitter.  Well, I think it is time for each of us to get signed up and get counted for supporting Clay.  It doesn’t cost anything and if you are afraid of privacy issues, sign up as whatever name you want and don’t add any information you don’t want to.  And, use it only to support Clay.

If there are those who don’t know how to use the sites, lets set up a “Twitter for Dummies” site and another for FaceBook.  Perhaps someone can host a thread at each board.  AND, if all else fails, send me a message and I will set up something here.

Do you have any suggestions??  Is this something we can work on as a huge group?  If you believe that this information is important, please pass the word around.  Post the chart, copy some of the important facts or, if you have permission, leave a link.  I never ask this, but today, I feel this information should be shared.

Clay Aiken – Amazon

Amazon just published its annual Best of…….lists.  There must be at least 25 lists as each genre has its own list.  I am not sure why these lists were published before the holiday buying season, but perhaps it is a way to encourage more sales.

Since Clay Aiken did not release any new music this year, he is not included on any of the lists.  From what Clay has said, that will be different next year and I assume that his name will be at the top of many lists.

It is interesting to see  all the lists, however the most important lists are The Best Albums of 2009 and the Best-Selling Albums of 2009.  The Best Albums list proves that my knowledge of music comes from a different background than the Amazon editors who picked their favorites.  To be completely honest, I have never heard of most of the albums or artists.

I was more interested in seeing the list of the Best-Selling Albums.  I actually have some of those albums and know many of the other artists.

I am only posting the top 5 Best Albums, but including the entire Top 25 Best-Selling list.  To see all the lists, visit Amazon

Do you own any of these albums?  Besides Clay Aiken music, what do you listen to?

Product Description
Welcome to the Playlist series. We’ve fished through hundreds of tracks to cherry pick the perfect playlists. Not just the hits, but…the life-changing songs. The out-of-print tracks. The fan favorites everyone loves. The songs that make the artists who they are. You’ll no doubt enjoy the sound of the beautifully remastered songs on this CD, unlike the compromised sound of an MP3 file.

You might also like the fact that the packages are environmentally-friendly (no plastic, 100% recycled paper). But we think the thing you’ll appreciate most about this Playlist is that even though you didn’t make it, you might wish you did. This package has been created with the environment in mind. All of the paperboard is 100% recycled and 100% recyclable. Of course, we would prefer that you not throw this package or CD away. We would prefer that you keep it in your collection to enjoy for many years to come! Full liner notes, photos, and more included as a PDF file on this CD. Enjoy!

Quote of the Day

It is not always about performance art, but about receiving positive energy from people with positive spirits. Sometimes we can see someone's spirit, and those are the people with great energy. Those are the people that get me through the day, especially on Broadway. -Clay Aiken
