Clay Aiken – A Decade of Friendship

It has almost been a decade since Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard met while they were contestants on Season 2 of American Idol.  I wonder if they even thought that they would still be good friends 10 years later.

While Clay is putting the final touches on his Joyful Noise Tour, Ruben is in Branson, Missouri.  He is there with four other American Idol finalists  to begin about a month-long show schedule at the Andy Williams Moon River Theatre.

The show, “The Finalists, Live!”  features Ruben, Vonzell Solomon, Katie Stevens, Bo Bice and R.J. Helton.  They will  perform Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., and 2 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays through Aug. 18, according to the theater’s website.

The following are some fun pictures of Clay and Ruben.

#1 From Newsweek

#2 American Music Awards

#3 Macys Thanksgiving Parade

#4 ???

#5 Friends Out For Dinner

#6 Timeless Tour - Foxwoods

#7 Timeless Tour - Reno

  1. Hard to pick favorites once again – but # 2 and 4 – also #6 and 7 !!

So glad they are still friends – good for Ruben and the Branson Show!!

  2. There ya go again! Showing me cute pictures and trying to make me choose!! Can't do it I tell ya! Nice way to wake up tho. I do love how they have been friends all these years. It also means they met and became friends when they weren't stars yet. That's what's incredible to me! Genuine friendship!

  3. They are all good pictures but my two favorites are No. 1 and No. 4. I'm also glad that they have remained friends all these years.

  4. No, can't choose a picture, they're all my favorites, they look so great, God bless them. Thank you musicfan.

  5. It's hard to pic a favourite, but I do like #7. It shows that Clay and Ruben have remained close friends over the years. I have to say, I have never seen anyone who is more supportive of his friends, more than Clay. He always promotes and supports his friends.

  6. Nice try. Good slight of hand and misdirect with the photos. Penn would be proud but I still get it. In fact i have a whole new appreciation for just how cleverly subtle Clay can be with one short tweet. Clay will be genuinely happy that you gave his friend's show a plug and I'm sure he hopes it's a big success for Ruben's sake. Thats the kind of friend Clay is. The next time I'm in Branson it might cross my mind to see the show because i like Ruben and Bo. But I'd make it a priority if you know who was a part of it!

    • I'm not sure I understand the slight of hand comment. I just happened to be going through some of my pictures and thought it would be fun to do this article.

Did Clay tweet about this? I must have missed it!

Thank you for all your support!!

      • It is fun and I'm glad you did it. I love picture number 7. My apologies – I didn't meant to imply any motive other than fun or that you missed something. Only that now I see more meaning in a past tweet from Clay than I did before (LOL and RIP – I could be off base but I kind of doubt it). Love the work you're doing!

        • No apologies necessary!! It's fun to read everyone's ideas and knowledge. Just when I think I know about a topic I find out I miss a lot of stuff!

  7. What a nice photo array of the ten year Clay/Ruben friendship. My favorites are the *then* #1 and the *now* #7. Good shout outs for Clay's "Joyful Noise Tour" in December and the Ruben & others currently scheduled show' "The Finalists, Live" in Branson, Missouri.

  8. How to choose ?! All pics with Clay in them are favorites. Love 7 (also 4 and 6) ! Now, how about a Branson concert featuring the second-place winners ?

  9. I never saw #1 before…so funny. I like 6 & 7 because they bring back memories of the Timeless Tour. How Clay has changed!

  10. its a hard choice but numbers 1 and 7 are my favorites. I love the 1st one for the silliness and the wonderful friendship shown in the last one.all of them bring a smile to me.

  11. What a wonderful friendship these two have. They have both changed: Ruben has lost a lot of weight and looks great! Clay has become more handsome and still has that southern charm and humility. He makes friends wherever he goes and his fans love and support him more than ever
