Clay Aiken – Talks in Chapel Hill

Clay Aiken was busy on Wednesday night.  He was in Chapel Hill, North Carolina to meet voters and raise money for his campaign.

The host committee for the event included the Mayor of Chapel Hill, Mark Kleinschmidt and Professor Andrew Reynolds.  The group met at the West End Wine Bar and from the pictures and messages that were posted, it was a successful evening.

WUNC 91.5 posted a short article about Renee Ellmers and Clay Aiken.

North Carolina Public Radio – Republican Congresswoman Renee Ellmers Meets Her Democratic Challenger, Clay Aiken

By Jessica Jones

Republican Congresswoman Renee Ellmers of the state’s Second Congressional District and her challenger, Democrat Clay Aiken, appeared in a candidates forum in Cary this morning.

The brief breakfast forum, hosted by the Cary Chamber of Commerce, marked the first time Ellmers and Aiken had ever met. Ellmers said she came away with a good impression of her opponent.

“This was my first meeting him, ” said Ellmers. “I had never met him in person before. He’s very pleasant and very much a gentleman, I can see that. And you know, hey, I applaud him for running for office.”

Ellmers can afford to be charitable. State legislators redrew the Second District back in 2011 to favor Republican candidates. But former American Idol contestant Clay Aiken does have name recognition. He also raised more money than Ellmers in the second quarter. The two will hold a debate on October sixth in Pinehurst.

The article also includes a short sound clip.  You can see the article at WUNC

What an unusual group to speak with, but also very smart.  It is important that everyone has the opportunity to hear Clay speak so they can make educated decisions at the upcoming election!

  1. Of course he is pleasant & a gentleman. We all know that. He still looks very handsome & relaxed. Looking forward to the "DEBATE" . Not sure what to expect..

Way to keep us informed Martha!! Thanks!!

  2. I think it is very wise of Clay to speak to the Tea Party group. He has won over many folks just by listening and responding to them. Interesting that Renee Ellmers has declined to participate in the next Forum. Now that Renee has met Clay, she can see what she is up against. Clay is no one hit wonder, but an intelligent, serious candidate.
