On 12/26/04, an earthquake in the Indian Ocean caused a tsunami that left more than 122,000 dead and about 114,000 missing in Banda Aceh. On 3/14/05, Clay Aiken visited Banda Aceh, Indonesia. He was there as a Goodwill UNICEF ambassador to help bring awareness to the tsunami ravaged area.
While touring Indonesia three months after the tsunami devastated vast areas of South Asia, Clay witnessed and participated in UNICEF programs that helped children reconnect with their families, provided care for orphans, allowed children to return to school and helped prevent the spread of disease.
On April 5th, 2005, Clay was interviewed by Victoria Recando in the TV show, “The Insider.” Besides chatting with Clay, Victoria showed a personal video diary of Clay as he visited the Banda Aceh.
The following video is from the Insider on April 5th.
I loved this piece they did on Clay back all those years ago. Shows his compassion for people who are in the middle of a natural disaster. So proud of him then and even more proud today. Wonder when we will be hearing from him?! Miss him so much!
Thanks so much for this. It was always apparent that Clay wanted to serve others.
So proud of him. He has always been a true idol.
Love the video with Clay, sure miss seeing him every day with news, hope he's doing well and looking forward to any news about him, he's still out wonderful caring man.
Thanks Musicfan xox
Just one of the many great works he has done that shows how big his heart is. He is just one in a million, we're very lucky to have him in this lifetime. Miss him so much too…
As always, it's nice to go back and see what has always been important to Clay. He is a caring soul, who totally believes in giving back. This was even before American Idol. I feel badly for the people of NC02 that voted for him, because they had faith in him and they wanted him to be their representative. Clay will always want to serve. It's who he is. Plus, he will always sing, as that is a part of him as much as breathing. I feel so fortunate to be a Clay Aiken Fan.
Clay knows who he is and has not changed one iota over the years. We have all witnessed some very discouraging happenings in his life. I myself have cried about events that have been so unfair to him. I believe Clay has had his moments of tears but not pity. He is never defeated. He definitely abides by this promise: "When God shuts one door, He opens another." What a remarkable human being Clay is in so many ways, and I am thankful I have had the opportunity to follow his path. I've learned so much from his example, and I am still taking notes! Missing him greatly right now but certain he needs some well-earned rest and relaxation!
