The College of Education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte has a fine reputation. Currently, the College enrolls over 3000 undergraduate and graduate students in professional education programs. Their programs are nationally accredited and approved by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.

UNCC College of Education

The UNCC College of Education has received many honors and has accomplished many things that make them proud:

  • The College of Education received the Urban Impact Award from the Council of the Great City Schools in 2006
  • The special education faculty is ranked in the top ten nationally in terms of scholarly productivity
  • 687 UNC Charlotte alumni are National Board Certified Teachers
  • The Department of Counseling received the Provost’s Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2008 and the “Program of the Year” Award from the Southeastern Association of Counselor Education and Supervision in 2007
  • Last year UNC Charlotte produced over 623 new teachers, the second highest number among North Carolina’s 47 colleges and universities. 73% of these graduates are now teaching in North Carolina’s public schools. A total of 6,427 UNC Charlotte alumni are currently teaching in North Carolina’s schools.

UNC Charlotte publishes a magazine for the College of Education. In the fall of 2007, this popular publication featured an article about Clay Aiken. Titled, “Measure of a Man,” the article calls Clay their most famous alumnus. The article highlights Clay’s work with his foundation and how important he feels it is to educate people about Inclusion.

The article is a nice read and features a 4 page spread which includes two beautiful pictures;  one from Clay’s professional life and one from his UNICEF work.

If you have trouble reading the article, remember to click on the photo and it will enlarge to make it easier to see.

The following E-mail was sent out to many supporters of the National Inclusion Project on August 2nd.

We Need Your Help!

www.refresheverything.com/inclusionproject

We have been accepted and are competing in the Pepsi Refresh contest for $50K in August!

Pepsi has adjusted the format of the contest. Here are the updates:

  • There is no rollover month to month. We either win in August or we are out!
  • You can still vote 3 ways: Facebook, our direct Pepsi page, and text.
  • Our direct Pepsi page: www.refresheverything.com/inclusionproject
  • Text 108169 to Pepsi 73774.
  • You have 5 votes for each method of voting every day. You can only place one vote per method per day to a given idea.
  • POWER VOTES: Find Power Votes on specially marked Pepsi products. Go to www.refersheverything.com, click on power votes, enter the code and they give you a number of extra votes. All of the power votes can be voted for a single idea. You can “cash in” 10 power vote codes daily. The number of power votes you win may be as few as 5 or could be 100 or more.
  • There are 10 winners in the $50K category which is now the highest award possible.

Click here to sign up to receive a daily reminder to vote!

Thank you for your support!

The following are some hints for using Power Votes from

SueReu!

In case anyone has questions regarding the power voting, here’s some step by step instructions:

1. You must be logged through Pepsi Refresh – not Facebook. You can log out and log in at the lower left corner of the Refresh screen.
2. Along the top of the page are several links – look for the yellow link that’s titled “Power Vote” and click on that link
3. Enter the power code in the white area and click “activate”
4. Once activated, it will give you the number of additional votes (anywhere between 5 and 100). Right under the number of additional votes, there are two links. If you activated your code after voting for National Inclusion Project or if you used the Project’s link to access the site, you want to click on the link that says “return to your last idea” and it will take you right back to the Project’s voting page
5. You will see a yellow voting tab that says “Power Vote” – all of your additional votes will be cast at one time
6. You can activate up to 10 individual power codes per day

Let’s get ‘er done!!!!

The National Inclusion Project makes an impact with thousands of children nationwide and raises the national consciousness about the need for and benefits of inclusion.

So…contact your friends, relatives and boss!!  We all need to step up and help win $50,000 for

The National Inclusion Project!!

Clay Aiken – Can You Help?

By musicfan123 · Comments 9922(3)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2010%2F07%2F08%2Fclay-aiken-can-you-help%2FClay+Aiken+-+Can+You+Help%3F2010-07-08+08%3A07%3A42musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D9922

The National Inclusion Project grew out of the relationship between Clay Aiken and Diane Bubel and Diane’s then 13-year-old son, Mike who had been diagnosed with autism.

Clay pursued a degree in special education from UNC-Charlotte. He completed an independent study project where he created a foundation that focused on providing the support system for recreational and educational programs around the country to open doors to children with disabilities that had thus far remained closed.  Both Diane and Clay realized that an organized effort could encourage and facilitate community inclusion and empowerment of individuals with disabilities.

This shared goal grew into reality on July 28, 2003. Since that time, the National Inclusion Project has established itself as a leading voice for inclusion.

The National Inclusion Project serves to bridge the gap that exists between young people with disabilities and the world around them. They partner with communities and inclusive programs creating awareness about the possibilities that inclusion can bring.

Many of you are aware that The National Inclusion Project is involved in the Facebook giving challenge done by Chase Community Giving. Over the weekend, some others had a surge in voting and they have fallen out of the top 200 and $20,000. (That’s 2 camps!)

They need your help, please. Pass this on, put on message boards, blogs, etc. If you have another charity you are voting for in the challenge, see if there’s a mutual voting relationship you can use. Creative, desperate, enthusiastic…whatever you have to be, it’s worth it. J

Here’s the process:
1. Click: http://apps.facebook.com/chasecommunitygiving/charities/200146446-bubel-aiken-foundation-inc
2. Make sure that you’ve hit “Like” at the top of the page for Chase.
3. Click the button to Vote.
4. Then click the button to Share on your Facebook wall.
5. Only one vote per person allowed.

The following  is one of the most beautiful videos I have seen on The National Inclusion Project.  You really need to watch this video.  If your heart doesn’t swell with pride for all that the National Inclusion Project has accomplished, or if you don’t immediately ask what you can do to help………..well………you get the point.  SueReu, you are some amazing lady.  Thank you for all you do for Clay and The National Inclusion Project.

Clay Aiken – Can You Paint?

By musicfan123 · Comments 8195(9)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2010%2F02%2F10%2Fclay-aiken-artistic-skills-needed%2FClay+Aiken+-+Can+You+Paint%3F2010-02-10+08%3A27%3A51musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D8195

Clay Aiken………your artistic skills are needed.

How are your painting skills??  Do you know someone else who is a creative artist??  OR……maybe you know a group of kids who would like to participate in a special project.  If the answer to any of these questions is yes, The National Inclusion Project has a great idea for you.

Named “Painted Bottoms,” the project is a creative fundraiser which allows an individual or a team to turn an unfinished oak rocker or chair into a fine work of art.

The finished chairs will be placed in one of the four categories and judged by a team from the Project.  The best chair from each category will be a part of the silent auction at the Champions Gala.  The best overall chair will be signed by Clay Aiken and be a part of the live auction at the Gala.

The four categories are:

  • Fan
  • Inclusion Awareness
  • Regional/State
  • Creative/Open

Any chair that is not chosen to come to the Gala can be used however you choose.  The National Inclusion Project suggests that you auction off your chair locally to help raise funds for the Project.  You also might choose to donate your chair.  If so, a brass plaque is available for $15 that can be mounted on the back of the chair.  It will say:

Donated on behalf of the National Inclusion Project
www.inclusionproject.org

There are two goals for this project.  First, it is a wonderful way for the National Inclusion Project to raise some needed funds for all their wonderful programs.  All proceeds from the sale of the chairs, plus the money from the auctions will benefit the Project.

The second goal of this program is to spread the word of the fine work that is done by the National Inclusion Project.  The chair will give you the opportunity to talk and spread the word about inclusion and the wonderful programs that are a part of the National Inclusion Project.

So………..are your creative juices flowing?  Are you ready to sponsor a chair?  If so, contact

The National Inclusion Project for more details.

According to their website:

The National Inclusion Project serves to bridge the gap that exists between young people with disabilities and the world around them. We support communities with inclusive programs and together create awareness about the possibilities that inclusion can bring.

Clay Aiken – Foundation News

By musicfan123 · Comments 3348(5)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2009%2F03%2F31%2Fclay-aiken-foundation-news%2FClay+Aiken+-+Foundation+News2009-03-31+17%3A21%3A30musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D3348
Tuesday, March 31st, 2009

Good News from The Bubel/Aiken Foundation (TBAF) today.  The Foundation announced that over $500,000 in grants have been given out to support programs all over the U.S. as a part of the Let’s All Play initiative.

Over one million dollars has been invested over the past two years to expand the Let’s All Play program.  The purpose of the program is “to assist child and youth organizations in moving toward full inclusion.”  The inclusion experience was instituted by the Foundation in 2004.

In 2009, the Foundation will support over 30 recreational programs.  Besides the grant funding, the Foundation will provide a program model and training for the camp.

The Center for Social Development and Education at the University of Massachusetts in Boston was asked by the Foundation to assess the implementation of Let’s All Play in 2008.  The results were exciting.  The evidence showed that “campers with disabilities improved self-esteem, social skills, social relationships with campers without disabilities, general engagement in camp activities, and sport/motor skills.”

According to the Foundation newsletter, over 5,000 children will participate in the inclusive experience this summer.

The Foundation also announced today that The Mitsubishi Electric America Foundation has invested $360,000 in new and continuing grants to TBAF.  Altogether, they have invested $3.2 million in the Foundation’s 5 year Inclusion Initiative.

The newest inclusion project is a joint venture between TBAF and the National Center for Summer Learning at Johns Hopkins University.  This is a three year project that will be a powerful voice for change in summer learning for all children.  The partners will, “expand access to high-quality, inclusive summer learning opportunities for young people by developing a summer learning curriculum to help summer camps fully include youth with disabilities.”

The Bubel/Aiken Foundation also announced the date of the 2009 Champions of Change Gala.  The celebration will be held on October 17, 2009 at the Raleigh Marriott City Center.  More information will be coming soon.

Clay Aiken and Diane Bubel should be so proud of what they have accomplished with TBAF.  Congratulations to the Foundation, their staff and all the volunteers that have helped the Foundation make an impact on children all over the country.

Too Far From Florida

There are many people that want to support the TBAF Golfing For Inclusion, but are not able to attend. Aron Hall, the Director of Services at the Bubel/Aiken Foundation, has come up with a great plan.

The Foundation has a connection with the First Tee program in Florida. Through this program, it is possible to sponsor a young golfer so that they can participate in the tournament.

For $500, a young golfer can participate in a full day of activities. This is an excellent way to encourage a young golfer and support the TBAF at the same time.

If $500 is too expensive, why not set up a board sponsorship?? It would be nice to see a young golfer supported by each fan board.

If you are interested, you need to use the registration form at the TBAF web site and check the entry that says “Phantom Sponsor”.   If you don’t put in a name, the TBAF can use the sponsorship to choose a player who needs it the most.

Play Golf With Clay Aiken

1866168How’s your golf swing?? Is your putter packed?? Are your golf shoes shined?? If so, you must be ready for the 2nd Annual Golfing For Inclusion event.

Created to benefit the Bubel/Aiken Foundation, the event will take place on January 26th, 2009 at the Mirasol Country Club in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

Beginning with the 10:00AM registration, you can spend the entire day playing golf and hoping to spend some time with PGA Professional Wayne Player and Clay Aiken. The dinner and awards will be followed by a performance by Clay. What will he sing? Who will accompany him?? Well, those questions have not been announced yet.

The foundation has a limited amount of tickets if you are not into golf but you want to join in the evening dinner and entertainment. They are $250.00.

Last year, Clay looked like he was learning about the game of golf and seemed to be a good pupil as Wayne tried to teach him about the proper way to swing the golf club. Maybe Clay has been practicing, or maybe he will just chat with the golfers and enjoy the beautiful setting.

Each person in attendance will be supporting the TBAF’s mission of inclusion for children with disabilities.

The first Golfing For Inclusion event was very successful. Through the participation of the golfers and their guests, over $60,000 was raised to support the programs of the Foundation.

Aron Hall, the Director of Services at the Bubel/Aiken Foundation just posted some exciting items for the on-line auction. These items include an opportunity to play golf with Wayne Player for 4 people, two wonderful 2009 Masters packages, and some wonderful Clay memorabilia. The Carolina Hurricanes “Aiken” Hockey Jersey is bound to be a huge hit as well as the “Proud of Your Boy” Original Score, signed by both Clay and Alan Merkin.

Aron reported in his latest post that there are still a few spots open to play in the tournament. For those who are golf fans or a fan of Clay Aiken, this seems like a great way to start the year.

I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait to hear the reports of this great event. Maybe I need to take up golf. The most important question this year ……….will Clay be wearing a bowtie??

Quote of the Day

It is not always about performance art, but about receiving positive energy from people with positive spirits. Sometimes we can see someone's spirit, and those are the people with great energy. Those are the people that get me through the day, especially on Broadway. -Clay Aiken
