Well…..it has started!!  Check out the following graphic.  Isn’t it nice to see??

We all would love to hear Clay Aiken performing Unchained Melody on the AC radio stations.  Well, devoted fan, MagicalMusic,  decided to do something about it.  She requested the song and  received the following e-mail from the station:

So glad to have you as a listener of Ez~! We’ll play Clay Aiken’s “Unchained Melody” just now and trust you’re able to be tuned.
We’ll check out others by Clay Aiken and will be glad to add some.
Again, thank you for being with us tonight.
Best,
Lane and Martha in Atlanta

Thank you, Magical………you got the ball rolling!!!

As we look towards the end of the year, we cannot help but think of the exciting things that happened for Clay this year.  It is a time of reflection.  I thought it might be interesting if everyone took a moment and let us know their TOP Clay moments for 2010.  Maybe there is just one, but maybe you have a Top Ten List.  What ever it is, lets see if we can put together a list of 2010 Top Clay Aiken moments.

For me:

1.  That “moment” in Unchained Melody…..the key change just builds to an amazing place…..

2.  Bringing Broadway Home…….why did I make the decision to stay at home that night?  It was amazing.

3.  Clay’s beautiful performance of Both Sides Now will be something I will remember forever.

4.  Reno……Hammer pants…….Clay was so proud to show off the outfit, including the bling around his waist!!   AND….I was there!!

5.  Amazed and excited that Linda Eder was on the stage with Clay in Raleigh.  I have been lucky enough to see her in concert twice before her appearance in Raleigh.

WAIT—I need to stop.  I could go on all night!!  Help me out….What are your moments to remember?

Are you planning on seeing Clay Aiken when he performs the Tried & True Live concert in Atlanta, Georgia?  If so, today is your chance to purchase some of the best seats in the house.

The fan club pre-sale for Clay’s Tried & True Live! concert begins today, Dec 15, at 10am PT.  It ends on Thursday, Dec 16, at 3pm PT. Fan club members need to log in and visit the Appearances page to purchase their tickets.

The Atlanta concert is scheduled for February 16th and will be held at the Cobb Energy Centre.

Located just off I-75, the Cobb Energy Centre is a relatively new and beautiful performing arts venue.  The theater opened in 2007 and can seat 2,750 people.  The $145 million facility celebrated its grand opening on September 15, 2007 with a concert by Michael Feinstein and Linda Eder.

There are three levels of seating inside the auditorium and it is said that there is not a bad seat in the house.  The auditorium, concourse, atrium, and courtyards are modern, elegant, and beautiful to see.  There is a tall multi-story glass facade that adorns the front of the complex. This allows natural light to fill the atrium and concourse.  Food and beverage service is available, before performances and during intermission, serving some high-end fare including wine.

According to patrons who have attended performances at the Centre, the theater staff is knowledgeable and accommodating.  There is Valet parking available right in front of the center for $10 or you can self-park in the parking deck for $6.   Some people reported that there is a free parking lot just across the street.   It’s a large surface lot located behind Sports Authority, Party City, LA Fitness, and the Embassy Suites.  It’s safe and located within short walking distance to the center.

This sounds like a great place to see a concert, especially if it is Clay Aiken.  So, get ready to get some great tickets to an amazing concert.  Perhaps a pair of tickets would make a great Christmas present.  I can’t think of a better present!

accessAtlanta is a website that reports on the events that take place in Atlanta, Georgia.  It covers everything from the Atlanta Symphony to the finest restaurants in the area.  If you ever are planning a trip to Atlanta, accessAtlanta is a great place to get up to date information.

Clay Aiken Listed in iTunes Essentials

By musicfan123 · Comments 10063(7)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2010%2F10%2F23%2Fclay-aiken-listed-in-itunes-essentials%2FClay+Aiken+Listed+in+iTunes+Essentials2010-10-23+07%3A44%3A43musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D10063
Saturday, October 23rd, 2010

iTunes has a group of Playlists call iTune Essentials.  There have been around for a long time.  The iTunes site says the following about this program:

The greatest songs, the greatest artists, fanatically handpicked to let you discover a legacy, explore a genre, or set a mood.  iTunes Essentials – the best place to find your next favorite song.

Very recently, thirty of Clay Aiken’s beautiful songs were chosen to show the off his musicianship and voice to make up an iTunes Essential album.

Each iTunes Essential is always divided into at least three parts.  The following write – ups can be found in each section of the song collection.

The Basics:

“Singer” seems too slim a description to truly cover Clay Aiken’s larger-than-life role in American pop culture; Broadway performer, TV personality, tireless activist, all these titles and more are part of his resume, though there’s still no getting around that golden voice. American Idol fans may have been the first to find out what his titanic tones could do with Simon & Garfunkel classic “Bridge Over Troubled Water,” but the rest of the world caught on quickly, making his version the best-selling single of 2003. The romantic sway of Aiken’s smash “The Way” from his debut album proved he could put original material across with just as much emotional punch. And when he lights up the old Johnny Mercer standard “Moon River” – with guitar courtesy of Vince Gill – his place in the lineage of great American pop vocalists becomes blindingly clear. Discover Clay Aiken’s multiple musical personalities, from power balladeer to jazzy crooner.”

Next Steps:

“One of the many traits Clay Aiken shares with the great interpreters who’ve gone before him — aside from the obvious, superhuman vocal chops — is the ability to tackle a song from almost any source and make it his own. Not only does he wear some Elvis-sized shoes on “Suspicious Minds,” but he also fits them to his own sure-footed steps. With the help of Cabaret queen Linda Eder, Aiken gets every ounce of drama from Roy Orbison’s soaring pop-opera “Crying.” And when he summons up a late-night saloon-song vibe on the holiday heart-tugger “What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve,” you can smell the snow and the lovesick speculation in the air.”

Complete Set:

“When a skinny 24-year-old from North Carolina belted out a shatteringly soulful version of “Always and Forever” on the 2003 American Idol audition episode, the nation didn’t yet realize it had just met the singing sensation of the decade. From there on, Clay Aiken blazed a big, bold trail that led directly to the hearts of AI viewers, Broadway theatergoers, and enough music lovers to make his debut album a double-platinum phenomenon. With a voice capable of climbing to the heavens on a passion-packed power ballad or crooning with uncommon subtlety, Aiken has delivered everything from jazz standards to ’80s pop hits, not to mention his chart-scaling original tunes. And now we’ve stacked up his most irresistible offerings in a wide-ranging menu of musical delights you’ll undoubtedly be achin’ (sorry) to sample.”

After reading these great comments, I can’t imagine how anyone would not like to click on a song by Clay Aiken.  Be sure a visit iTunes and see the thirty songs they chose to represent Clay Aiken.

“The romantic sway of Aiken’s smash The Way…….”  This quote made me want to listen and watch this song!!

Both Sides Now Perfect For Clay Aiken

Clay Aiken performed an emotional performance of the song, Both Sides Now on Saturday evening at the convention center in Raleigh, North Carolina.  The beautiful song ended the Champions Gala held by the National Inclusion Project.  The song has always been a favorite of mine, so I wanted to know more about the song.

The Canadian musician, Joni Mitchell, wrote Both Sides Now.  Mitchell recorded her debut album in 1968 and it contained many of her most beautiful and popular songs, including Chelsea Morning, Both Sides, Now, and Woodstock.  She was immediately recognized for her skill as a songwriter and then as a singer.

According to Wikipedia:

Mitchell’s work is highly respected both by critics and fellow musicians. Rolling Stone magazine called her “one of the greatest songwriters ever,” while Allmusic said, “When the dust settles, Joni Mitchell may stand as the most important and influential female recording artist of the late 20th century.”

Rolling Stone ranked Both Sides, Now #170 on its list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

Besides Mitchell’s own recording of the song, it has been recorded by many outstanding artists, including Judy Collins, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Linda Eder, and Michael Feinstein.

Clay made a comment on Saturday night about the beautiful lyrics of Both Sides Now and encouraged the audience to listen and watch the lyrics that were signed by the talented interpreter, Mrs. Leisey.

Please take a moment and read the beautiful lyrics and then watch the video of Clay and Mrs. Leisey performing it together.

Rows and flows of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere
I’ve looked at clouds that way

But now they only block the sun
They rain and snow on everyone
So many things I would have done
Clouds got in my way

I’ve looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
It’s cloud illusions I recall
I really don’t know clouds at all

Moons and Junes and Ferris wheels
The dizzy dancing way that you feel
As every fairy tale comes real
I’ve looked at love that way

But now it’s just another show
And you leave ‘em laughing when you go
And if you care, don’t let them know
Don’t give yourself away

I’ve looked at love from both sides now
From give and take, and still somehow
It’s love’s illusions I recall
I really don’t know love
Really don’t know love at all

Tears and fears and feeling proud
To say “I love you” right out loud
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds
I’ve looked at life that way

Oh but now old friends they’re acting strange
And they shake their heads
And they tell me that I’ve changed
Well something’s lost but something’s gained
In living every day

I’ve looked at life from both sides now
From win and lose and still somehow
It’s life’s illusions I recall
I really don’t know life at all
It’s life’s illusions I recall
I really don’t know life
I really don’t know life at all

Clay Aiken – Tried and True: Live!

“American Idol” viewers in January 2003 were taken by surprise when an unknown singer strode confidently into the audition room, announced to the judges that he was their choice and backed up that claim with an electrifying rendition of “Always and Forever,” which instantly caught the attention of millions watching at home. Many of them – like judge Randy Jackson – must have wondered, “Where is that voice coming from?” After nine sold-out national tours, six million copies of his four chart-topping albums worldwide, numerous television appearances, a New York Times best-selling memoir, an auspicious Broadway debut in Monty Python’s Spamalot, extensive travels for UNICEF and the launch of his own successful foundation -The National Inclusion Project – Aiken brings his clarion voice, engaging personality and Southern charm to PBS in CLAY AIKEN: TRIED & TRUE – LIVE!. Special guests Linda Eder and Ruben Studdard join Aiken onstage. Taped in Aiken’s hometown, Raleigh, North Carolina, before a wildly enthusiastic audience, Aiken brings his powerful vocals and uniquely personal interpretations to new arrangements of some of the most iconic songs ever written.

Tried & True: Live is airing on WKNO/Channel 10

& Tuesday, August 17, 9:30 p.m.
Airing on WKNO2

The following picture and article are on their web page.

Chart-topping “American Idol” vocalist Clay Aiken brings his clarion voice and personal interpretations to new arrangements of iconic songs, including “Mack the Knife,” “It’s Impossible,” “Moon River,” “Misty,” “Unchained Melody” and a duet with Broadway star Linda Eder on Roy Orbison’s classic lament “Crying.” Fellow “American Idol” star Ruben Studdard guest stars.

Taped in Aiken’s hometown, Raleigh, North Carolina, before a wildly enthusiastic audience, Aiken brings his powerful vocals and uniquely personal interpretations to new arrangements of some of the most iconic songs ever written, including “Mack the Knife,” “It’s Impossible,” “Moon River,” “Misty,” “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You,” “Suspicious Minds,” “Unchained Melody,” “What Kind of Fool Am I?” and a stellar duet with his special guest, Broadway star Linda Eder, on Roy Orbison’s classic lament, “Crying.”

Having grown up listening to this genre of music, Aiken says, “I wanted to do something that paid tribute to the Johnny Mathis, Perry Como and Andy Williams type of sound, because those artists sang really emotional material and did it wonderfully.” And there were the “tried and true” songs themselves, which Aiken finds “melodically appealing and beautiful.” He adds, “I’ve often joked with friends that I was born at the wrong time because the songs I like to sing are all from earlier eras. So performing this kind of music was an opportunity to just be myself.”

This station also broadcast a wonderful interview with Clay.  The 30-minute program is a wonderful introduction to Clay and covers his musical career and his work with The National Inclusion Project and UNICEF. This is a “must-see” interview that is full of lots of information and new clips of Clay in his role of UNICEF Ambassador.  You can download the video at Clack Unlimited

If you are a fan of Clay Aiken, you probably realize that Monday’ s are usually good news days.  That was the way it was yesterday as many different bits of news came to light!

Talk Stoop Interview

We learned early in the day that the scheduled interview with Cat Greenleaf  on NBC has been rescheduled for Thursday, July 22nd.  It will be shown at 6:15AM.  It will be shown again later in the day on the computer at Talk Stoop. Two more days to wait to see Clay, suspenders and all on TV.  Cat Greenleaf and  Clay looked like they were having a great time together.  I bet thee interview will be great!

Clay Gets A Haircut!!

Ed Slott and Clay Aiken met at the  PBS TV station in Atlanta, Georgia.  Mr. Slott had his picture taken with Clay and put it on his FaceBook page and even Tweeted it.  It was a real treat for Clay fans to see the picture as it showed Clay with his new hair style.  Some fans mourned the loss of the long hair, while others cheered for the shorter look.  All thought Clay looked handsome and at ease with Mr. Slott who probably had no idea his picture would be all over the Internet.

More On Phineas & Ferb

Britt Bickel is a staff writer for 94.7, The Wave, a popular radio station.  They posted the following article on their web-page.

Chaka Khan is not only a soulful diva who inspires fans through her uplifting lyrical messages in her music, but she also inspires children through her Chaka Khan Foundation to help at risk kids reach their full potential and achieve their goals in life.

Chaka Khan has always been a strong advocate and heavily involved in children’s foundations, making her one of the best choices to voice an animated version of herself in a popular children’s cartoon on Disney. Another “Idol” is guest starring along with her performing a new original song on the show, find out more here!

Disney channel’s hit children’s cartoon Phineas and Ferb has a huge lineup of guest stars in August, including the divalicious Chaka Khan and American Idol‘s Clay Aiken performing on an upcoming episode called “Summer Belongs To You.”

The two music powerhouses will be drawn up in 2D animated form to sing an original song on the show “I Believe We Can” to inspired children in a “Thomas The Tank Engine” kind of way that they can achieve anything they set their mind to.

Chaka Khan told Entertainment Weekly about her guest spot, “That’s my message in all aspects of my life. I’d do anything that lifts kids up.”

So gather your children around the Tube for an uplifting message brought to you by Diva of soul Chaka Khan and the heart-melting voice of Clay Aiken for the episode airing on the Disney channel on August 6.

Music powerhouse and heart-melting voice……..yes…….I like those descriptions of Clay Aiken. To see the entire site visit   The Wave

It is always fun to find articles about Clay Aiken and his music.  It is especially fun when they are found in different places.  Both of the following articles have wonderful things to say about Clay and Tried and True.

TheaterMania is a site that reports on “Everything Broadway.”  On July 9th, Andy Propst wrote an article, reviewing 20 CD’s that are great summer listens.  Each of the albums are related in some way to Broadway entertainers.  Andy said the following about Tried & True:

On this exceedingly enjoyable collection of standards, Aiken’s vocals are not only smooth, they’re also powerhouse. Listeners will find Frankie Valli’s hit “You’re Good to Be True” is filled with a grand big band sound and that Henry Mancini’s “Moon River” is not only achingly melancholy in Aiken’s interpretation but also filled with a certain sad urgency. The world of musical theater is represented with a cover of “Mack the Knife” that is a grand tribute to the Bobby Darin interpretation of the Kurt Weill classic and a “What Kind of Fool Am I?” (from Stop the World…), which has a jazzy cocktail music swing feel.

Clay Aiken Recalls LeAnn Rimes Trumping His Nashville Dream

Since placing second on ‘American Idol’ back in 2003, Clay Aiken has been making a big name for himself in the pop world, but was he really meant for country?

Rather than working with modern Top 40 material on his latest album, ‘Tried and True,’ the singer delved into classic tunes from the ’50s, many of which his mother encouraged him to perform before he was famous. One album track in particular stands out to him: ‘Unchained Melody,’ written in 1955 but made a hit again when LeAnn Rimes covered it in 1997.

“‘Unchained Melody’ was a song that my mom always wanted me to sing. She always dreamed I would record it and be a big star because of it and go to Nashville and make it a big hit,” Clay tells The Boot. “And then LeAnn Rimes did the same song and recorded it, and had a big hit with it, so there went that dream! [laughs]“

Clay clearly paved his own way despite missing out on a Nashville-born career, but LeAnn isn’t the only country connection that he has. Thanks to his mom, a music lover who often sang to him and was even in a local band during Clay’s childhood, he was introduced to a lot of the standards that he wound up recording for ‘Tried and True.’ Besides his ‘Unchained Melody’ story, Clay also attaches early family memories to Conway Twitty’s 1958 single, ‘It’s Only Make Believe.’

“My mother also loved country music, so Conway Twitty was somebody that I remember specifically going to visit his house in Nashville, on the Nashville home tour. ‘Only Make Believe’ has a special place [to me], simply knowing that’s where we went on vacation when I was younger,” Clay says.

As for his musical influence on his own son, two-year-old Parker, Clay tells Popeater, “For the most part, around the house, we don’t have that much music playing. For some reason, I’m nervous to sing for him … My son doesn’t like to listen to me sing, but he enjoys listening to other people sing. Maybe kids just don’t like to hear their parents, ever! When they’re teenagers they don’t want to hear them, when they’re babies they don’t want to hear them sing. Maybe it’s just a genetic thing.”

“American Idol” Alumnus Clay Aiken Sings His Favorite Songs From Earlier Eras; Linda Eder and Ruben Studdard Guest Star –

All it took was a few bars of an old Heatwave song and Clay Aiken was on his way.

“American Idol” viewers in January 2003 were taken by surprise when an unknown singer strode confidently into the audition room, announced to the judges that he was their choice and backed up that claim with an electrifying rendition of “Always and Forever,” which instantly caught the attention of millions watching at home. Many of them — like judge Randy Jackson — must have wondered, “Where is that voice coming from?”

After nine sold-out national tours, six million copies of his four chart-topping albums worldwide, numerous television appearances, a New York Times best-selling memoir, an auspicious Broadway debut in Monty Python’s Spamalot, extensive travels for UNICEF and the launch of his own successful foundation — The National Inclusion Project — Aiken brings his clarion voice, engaging personality and Southern charm in CLAY AIKEN: TRIED & TRUE – LIVE!, part of special programming airing in July 2010 on WPBT2. Special guests Linda Eder and Ruben Studdard join Aiken onstage.

So performing this kind of music was an opportunity to just be myself.” Aiken’s new album, titled, appropriately, Tried & True, was released June 1.

Also appearing in the special is Aiken’s good friend and “American Idol” colleague Ruben Studdard. “To be able to share the stage with Ruben again is so exciting,” Aiken says. “He is such a talented artist.” In July, the two “American Idol” alumni will hit the road for their highly anticipated “Timeless Tour.”

On a different note………..wasn’t it fun seeing the list of fans that won Meet-And-Greets with Clay this summer??  Were you one of the lucky ones??

Quote of the Day

It is not always about performance art, but about receiving positive energy from people with positive spirits. Sometimes we can see someone's spirit, and those are the people with great energy. Those are the people that get me through the day, especially on Broadway. -Clay Aiken
