This post contains news and reviews about Clay Aiken…a bit of this and a bit of that.

First…be sure and put ShowBiz Tonight on your calendar for March 27th.  The following is the tweet that announced Clay’s visit to the show.

Calling all #Claymates!! #ClayAiken will be on @showbiztonight TOMORROW! 11p ET/PT on @hlntv! Tune in! #celebrityapprentice @clayaiken

I am so glad that Clay will be on TV once again!

There is a great interview with Clay at TheaterMania.    Written by  Brian Scott Lipton , the interview covers, Celebrity Apprentice, Steadfast, Broadway, and recording with Dee Snyder.

Clay Aiken was first introduced to most of the world when he appeared on FOX’s American Idol in 2003, becoming that season’s runner-up and, soon after, a top-selling recording artist. Since then, he’s starred in the Broadway hit, Monty Python’s Spamalot, has released numerous hit CDs, and is currently a contestant on NBC’s reality series, The Celebrity Apprentice. In addition, Decca has just released his latest CD, Steadfast, and he will also be heard alongside Apprentice castmate Dee Snider on his CD,Dee Does Broadway, due out on May 8. TheaterMania recently spoke to Aiken about his current projects, working with Linda Eder, and a possible return to Broadway.

The interview has less than 10 questions, but packs in a lot of information.  Be sure and visit the site and read  the entire interview.  You can read it at Theatermania

There are fabulous ladies at most of the Clay fan boards who take the time to produce screencaps of Clay’s appearances on TV.  The following pictures come from the ClayBoard and Clayversity.  Thank you ladies!!

Do you remember what you were doing on March 12th, 2010? For many Clay Aiken fans, this date will bring back memories of the taping of the PBS special at the Raleigh Memorial Auditorium. The concert, lovingly called the “OMG” Concert was the beginning of a year of wonderful live music, a new CD and DVD and many PBS specials on TV.

I was lucky enough to attend the “OMG” concert two years ago. I looked up what I wrote about the concert and thought I would share it with you.

Clay Aiken’s back in town and he is better than ever! Tonight’s concert was beyond the wildest expectations of the fans in attendance.

The concert was polished, professional and classy. Clay’s voice was phenomenal on the fresh arrangements of the timeless classics.

Clay opened the show with a rousing rendition of Mack The Knife and closed the show with a poignant version of Moon River. Each song chosen for the program allowed Clay to showcase his wonderful voice. It is amazing how his voice soared on the variety of songs. Each one highlighted his versatility and range.

It was a treat to see Ruben and Clay together again. I had forgotten what a beautiful voice Ruben has. The surprise of the evening was the guest appearance of Linda Eder who is one of the best female vocalists performing today. Linda joined Clay in singing the song, Crying. Clay announced that Linda recorded the song with him for his new album.

The evening was beyond even the highest expectations. I wish that every one of you could have been there to celebrate this wonderful performance.

Attending this concert in Raleigh was one of the most exciting nights I can remember.  It is still close to the top of the list.  One of the magic moments was hearing Clay sing Unchained Melody.  The arrangement by Ben Cohn was amazing and Clay really made the song his own!  And I will always remember the wonderful tribute to Clay’s teachers.  There is just something special about Clay Aiken.  His heart is filled with love and respect of those who have helped him grow into an outstanding young man!

This Is The Moment

Last 2 Verses

This is the moment -
My final test -
Destiny beckoned,
I never reckoned,
Second Best!

I won’t look down,
I must not fall!
This is the moment,
The sweetest moment of them all!

This is the moment!
Damn all the odds!
This day, or never,
I’ll sit forever
With the gods!

When I look back,
I will always recall,
Moment for moment,
This was the moment,
The greatest moment
Of them all!

Many years ago, I was given the CD of the music from the Broadway show, Jekyll & Hyde.  My entire family enjoyed listening to the music and each one of us had our favorite song.  It was fun learning more about the talented man who had that exciting music in his soul.

Frank Wildhorn, 53, was born in New York and taught himself the piano while in high school.  His interest was varied and he wrote and performed music ranging from Rock & roll to Rhythm & Blues to Jazz.  He graduated from The University of Southern California where he began writing Jekyll & Hyde.

The following are a few facts about Frank Wildhorn:

  1. In 1999, he became the first composer in 22 years to have three shows running simultaneously on Broadway.
  2. His shows have been nominated for 8 Tony Awards.
  3. He wrote the #1 hit by Whitney Houston, Where Do Broken Hearts Go.
  4. There have been 11 international recordings of Jekyll & Hyde recorded in 7 languages.
  5. The music from Jekyll & Hyde has been featured at the Olympics, the Super Bowl, the World Series, the Miss America Pageant, and President Bill Clinton’s Inauguration.
  6. Wildhorn launched 6 Broadway scores in 14 years, no small feat.
  7. His last musical, Bonnie & Clyde was not a success and closed after only 69 performances.
  8. He was married to Linda Eder for six years and they have a young son. They were divorced in 2004.

When I first heard Clay Aiken sing, I always hoped that I might hear him perform This Is The Moment, from Jekyll & Hyde.  When I found out he sang it at the Pieces of Gold Show in Raleigh, I was not surprised.  I was thrilled when he sang it again in Raleigh at the Bringing Broadway Home concert on June 21, 2010.  It was wonderful to hear one of my favorite songs performed by my favorite singer.

ENJOY!!

Clay Aiken – Are You Streaming?

By musicfan123 · Comments 11367(8)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2011%2F08%2F10%2Fclay-aiken-are-you-streaming%2FClay+Aiken+-+Are+You+Streaming%3F2011-08-10+08%3A36%3A19musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D11367
Wednesday, August 10th, 2011

As I am sitting here typing on my computer, I am listening to a diverse mix of musical tracks that include Linda Eder, Bryn Terfel, Carly Simon, The Cincinnati Pops Orchestra and my favorite, Clay Aiken.  This unusual playlist is due to the new music subscription service called Spotify.

Spotify is a music-streaming service that started in Sweden in 2008.  The company is now headquartered in London and was introduced in the United States on July 14th, 2011. So far Spotify has received rave reviews and lots of buzz.

So what makes Spotify what it is?  First, the music library is diverse and deep.  The service provides access to about 15 million songs. Of course there are some holes in the program.  You cannot get any Beatles music as they have an exclusive digital distribution deal with iTunes and a few of the older rock groups are not available.

Another selling point for Spotify is that the service is extremely fast when it comes to finding and playing music.  When you want to find a song, the program looks for the music stored locally, but if it doesn’t find it there it calls to a server that finds it stored on another users’ computer.

Daniel Ek is the founder of Spotify.  He was very happy with the response to the U.S. debut of his program.  He hopes to have 50 million users in the U.S. within a year.

Ek has an ambitious goal for his company:  He wants to give people instant access to all the recorded music in the world … not just popular tunes from Western countries.

“Our goal is to have all the world’s music — all the African music, all the South American music, all the Asian music,” he said. Asked what percentage of the world’s recorded music is in Spotify’s database, Ek estimated, “probably closer to 80% than 20%.”

Spotify is divided up into three pricing tiers. The free version seems like a great deal. For just registering, you get unrestricted access to Spotify’s catalog of 15 million songs to play on your computer only, for six months. You just download software for either Windows or Mac and you get instant access to the huge catalog. You will have to occasionally hear some ads in the free version.  The free version does require an invitation so ask around and find someone who is already on and they might be able to get you an invitation.

For $5 a month, you can get a subscription where the ads disappear. There are no time limits to listening to the catalog in this category. For $10 a month, the premium service allows you to listen to music on mobile devices like the iPhone. You also can create playlists of songs, download them and listen to them on your phone while offline. You don’t need an invitation to join for either pay service programs.

Spotify also can catalog your existing music on your computer and you can use the software to sync the music you already own to your mobile device. The user interface is simple.

Ok………so there is a new place to listen to music…why should a person who has CD’s and lots of music on their computer sign up for something new?  Well, as a fan of Clay Aiken, I try to think of all the different ways I can support him.  Including Clay Aiken songs on playlists and sharing the playlists on my Facebook and Twitter accounts will get some people listening to him that perhaps haven’t heard him since he was on American Idol.  What if each one of us sent a diverse playlist of different singers to our friends on Twitter and it got picked up by another reader…well, we all know that if you hear Clay you want to hear more.  Plus, according to Bob Lefsetz:

There will be a streaming chart, which will cause people to check out winners. This will be determined by data, not influence. It won’t be about paying off the radio station, but reaching critical mass so that others will experiment by listening to you.

Spotify is the future and streaming will soon be the way to hear new music.  It won’t be long before a CD player is another machine that is obsolete.

For more information visit SPOTIFY

It doesn’t matter who you are… everybody needs music. It’s a necessity and without it life just wouldn’t be the same.  So, lets be on the cutting edge of change and try something new.  If it can help support my favorite musical artist I will give it a try.  It is great to see a program that benefits users and players and makes the distribution of music a fair process.

Clay Aiken – Honored Father!

The Family Equality Council is an organization that works with all levels of government to advance full social and legal equality for the approximately one million lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender families raising two million children. Some of the concerns of the Family Equality Council are parenting protections, adoption, repeal of the so-called Defense of Marriage Act, health insurance reform, immigration reform, and safe schools.  The Council works at both the state and federal level.

The organization was started in 1979 by a group of gay fathers who got together to form a network of support.  A few years later, the group expanded to include lesbian moms.  In 2007, the name was changed to Family Equality Council.  They have a vision of a world that treats all loving families equally.

On April 21, 2009, Clay Aiken received the Equality Circle Award from the Family Equality Council’s Night at the Tavern event in New York City.  Clay received the award for his commitment to loving families of all kinds, taking a stand, and sharing his journey to parenthood proudly.  According to their website:

Family Equality Council is proud to honor Clay for all of his work on behalf of children and for all that he does to make the world a safer place for his own child and the children of LGBT parents everywhere.

Clay thanked the group and said that the award belonged to everyone in the room.  He also suggested that it was important for straight people to speak up as much as people in the gay community.  The special guest performer for the evening was Broadway star, Linda Eder.

Clay had many fans in attendance for the beautiful dinner.  Held at the famous Tavern on the Green, the tickets were $250.00 per person and included a cocktail reception, a full-course seated dinner, live entertainment, and a silent auction.

It is hard to believe that today, the first anniversary of this concert, is also the last performance of the Tried & True Tour. The last concert, presented at the Warfield Theatre in San Francisco, will be a night of celebration, colored with a bit of sadness. Fans don’t want to see this wonderful tour come to an end.  It will be another night of great music, wonderful comedy and lots of love!

It was another busy day for fans of Clay Aiken. On the internet, Clay was featured in two, new  supportive articles about his tour.  And, on Wednesday afternoon, we actually got a new picture of Clay.

Team Clay posted on both Twitter and FaceBook.  They let us know that Clay visited their office to get some work done and even included a picture.  In our new goal of more participation on FaceBook and Twitter, this is a good place to answer their message.  It’s as easy as retweeting their tweet or “liking” the message on FaceBook.  If you are used to FaceBook, you might leave a message to them.

Take a look!!    Love The Toys!!   FaceBook

Front Stage is a music blog.   This blog is  sponsored by Krule Music, a company that includes  Music Publishing, A&R Development, Music Consulting, and Artist Management.  This site has always been very supportive of Clay and his reviews of Clay emphasize his beautiful voice and musicianship.  Please click on the link and leave a message to let the site know how much we enjoy reading positive articles about Clay.   Front Stage

Clay Aiken is about to start his official Tried and True tour, which is 22 date tour staring on February 10, 2011 in Miami, Florida. This is the much anticipated Tried and True tour all Clay Aiken fans have been waiting for. The tour will have Clay show case his gifted talent on all the classic songs from his latest release “Tried and True”.

The tour comes following Clay’s successful summer tour “Clay and Ruben Timeless Tour” with his friend and colleague Ruben Studdard, which was well received by fans and critics alike.

Read our album review of Tried and True along with complete song listing is on our blog post “Clay Aiken: Tried and True, Songs for You.

The album contains many classics including songs Clay had performed on American Idol (Season 2) including “Unchained Melody” and “Mack The Knife”

Clay Aiken had released a DVD “Clay Aiken: “Tried and True Live!”(2010) which was his live performance for the PBS concert special. It’s a great DVD which gives fans a taste of what to expect on his up coming tour.

This article is followed by a complete schedule of the Tried and True Tour!

BroadwayWorld seems to like Clay Aiken.  On Tuesday, they announced that Clay won their poll about Broadway stars.  Wednesday, they wrote a great article about the Tried & True Tour.  They seem to appreciate Clay Aiken as a great musician and entertainer.  Please stop by their site and let them know how much we appreciate their support.  Also, take a look around.  They always have so much interesting things about what is happening in the theatre world.

Clay Aiken Comes To The Van Wezel 2/12

Clay Aiken has never sounded more at home than he does singing the lushly arranged classics on his fifth studio album Tried and True – the international pop phenomenon’s first album for Decca Records.

Showcasing Aiken’s powerful voice and considerable interpretive gifts, the new CD is comprised of songs from the ’50s and ’60s that Aiken grew up listening to as a child. For Aiken, Tried and True (so named because he feels the songs have stood the test of time) was about getting back to himself after a career performing more pop-oriented material. “There are a lot of elements to this album that are about me returning to what I’m comfortable with,” Aiken says. “To me, older songs are more melodically appealing and beautiful. So doing this album was an opportunity to just be myself.” Highlights include swinging album opener “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You,” made famous by Frankie Valli; “Misty,” the Johnny Mathis hit, and a soulful rendition of Elvis Presley‘s “Suspicious Minds.” Tried and True also features two songs Aiken sang while appearing as a contestant on the second season of American Idol: “Mack the Knife” and “Unchained Melody,” alongside songs with guest appearances by saxophonist David Sanborn on “What Kind of Fool Am I?” and Broadway star Linda Eder on Roy Orbison’s “Crying.”

Aiken launched his career journey seven years ago on American Idol, where he won over millions of viewers with his phenomenal voice and down-home charm. He parlayed his success into full-fledged stardom, selling more than six million copies worldwide of his previous four albums, all of which debuted in the Top 5 on the Billboard chart. In addition, Aiken has launched nine live tours, made the New York Times best-seller list by co-authoring the inspirational memoir Learning to Sing: Hearing the Music In Your Life, and won several American Music and Billboard Music Awards. In January 2008, Aiken made his Broadway debut in the role of Sir Robin in the Tony Award-winning musicAl Monty Python’s Spamalot.

Ticket prices range from $30 to $60. For more information and to buy tickets, contact the Van Wezel Box office at (941) 953-3368 or log onto www.vanwezel.org. This show is sponsored by the Van Wezel Foundation.

Did you watch American Idol last night?    I was busy watching my favorite sitcoms.  I did take a few moment to read the reviews.  From Reuters, to MTV, the comments ranged from “a softer Idol” to better than I expected.  What did you think?

Today is Tuesday, January 11th.  To most people it is just another day, but for CANN…. well..

Today is the 2nd Anniversary of CANN!

When CANN was started there were two goals:

  • Keep the public updated on all the Clay Aiken news as it happens.
  • Maintain a place that presents Clay in a positive way.

Here are some interesting statistics:

CANN has:

  • published 998 posts and articles and never missed a day
  • 12,236 published comments from readers
  • an ever-growing subscriber list – an easy way to stay in touch
  • visitors from 133 countries all over the world

Cann has been published on both Linda Eder’s and Joni Mitchell’s Official Fan Club sites.  We have also had some surprising responses from the PR people who represent many of the music businesses and artists that we have covered. It is always fun when you realize people are reading what you write!

In the last year, we have published reviews of performances, reported live from many appearances, reported on the state of the recording and radio industries, and supported the fund raising at most of the charities that Clay has said he supports.  We have also had some crazy polls and some exciting memories

We have tried hard to present a place where all Clay fans are welcome.  Whatever your home board, we hope you enjoy our news

SO…Let’s Celebrate!!  A Toast To Clay Aiken!!  May 2011 Be The Best Year Yet!!

Quote of the Day

It is not always about performance art, but about receiving positive energy from people with positive spirits. Sometimes we can see someone's spirit, and those are the people with great energy. Those are the people that get me through the day, especially on Broadway. -Clay Aiken
