Friday was a slow news day for Clay Aiken fans.  That made it the perfect day to get into the computer and organize my files.  I found some great pictures and a fun bit of information that I want to share.

I’m going back to November 2. 2006……Clay was guest on the short-lived Megan Mullally Show.    Clay performed A Thousand Days and he and Megan chatted about the different times they had worked together in the past.

I loved that the website for her show posted Clay’s profile page for the show.  Have you seen it?  If not, here it is!

Clay’s profile page for the show:

Clay Aiken – A Holiday Show

On December 8, 2004, NBC aired a Christmas special featuring Clay Aiken. The holiday show was an hour long and was filled with intimate performances set in a beautiful Christmas set that was put together as a beautiful family home, decorated with traditional holiday ornaments.

Clay was joined on the stage by musical superstar, Barry Manilow, Gospel singer, Yolanda Adams and actress and singer, Megan Mullally.  Clay’s good friend and back-up singer, Quiana Parler was also a featured performer.

There was an interesting twist in the flow of the show.  Instead of just showing the final taping, the producers showed some of the backstage workings of putting a show together.  The clips showed the cast and crew as they buzzed about between the different parts of the program.

Among the beautiful Christmas decoration, friends and family were seated on the stage to add to the family feel.

Highlights of the program included “Christmas Waltz, “Merry Christmas With Love,” and Santa Claus Is Coming To Town.  Another favorite part of the show was when the performers talked about some of their unusual gifts.

In the finale, Clay was joined by Barry Manilow and Yolanda Adam as they sang a stirring rendition of “Because It’s Christmas.”

This Christmas special was unique in that it focused on the music and had no skits or jokes.  And the idea of having some of the audience members on the stage gave the impression of a big Christmas Party.

Clay was credited as an Executive Producer of the show.  A DVD of the program was available and was certified Gold by the RIAA in December, 2005.

Clay Aiken – In Control

In 2006, Megan Mullally made her debut as a Talk-Show host.  Megan is a talented actress and a wonderful singer, but she was not exactly the best talk show host around.  Her show was short-lived.

Megan did have some wonderful guests during the run of her show.  Clay Aiken visited the Megan Mullally show on November 2, 2006.    Clay was the main guest of the show.  He and Megan performed an AI skit together.  In a casual manner the two of them chatted about the many times that Megan and Clay had worked together.  Megan had been a guest on Clay’s Christmas special and they had also worked together on Saturday Night Live.  They also talked about Clay’s friends from American Idol and even talked about Clay’s grandmother cooking on TV.  Clay performed “A Thousand Days”  with his usual band and back-up singers.

The fans who were lucky enough to be in the studio audience for the taping of the show thought that the best part of the show was not seen on TV. Some of the fans reported that one of the greatest things about Clay’s appearance on this show was that it was very close to seeing Clay in concert.  When the cameras were off, Clay chatted with the audience and cracked jokes.  Before he sang, he asked the audience to applaud and scream over the high note to cover him as he wasn’t sure he could reach the note!

Clay looked relaxed and happy on this TV appearance and it was a great day for the fans in the studio and the fans at home who watched on TV.

While trying to get videos up on this performance, I noticed that most of the m had been disabled.  The one that I have added is not the entire show, but it does show how relaxed and handsome Clay was while chatting with Megan.

February 7, 2004……….Where were you?? Where was Clay Aiken??

If you were an avid fan of Clay, you were probably at home watching TV with your lap-top handy. There was so much excitement in the air. This was a special night because Clay Aiken was making his debut on the popular show, Saturday Night Live.

As the show finally got underway, we were introduced to Clay in a great montage of the guests.

Then, Megan Mullally started her monologue where she stated that she refused to be typecast in her role on Will and Grace. She sang and danced with the male cast and who jumped in at the end, but Clay Aiken, dressed in a white tux and singing up a storm.

Clay sang twice on the show. His rendition of Invisible was strong and exciting and his performance of The Way was beautiful and sensual.

A highlight of the evening was the skit about relatives and their attempt to gain access to the Grammy Awards. Each relative was turned away except for Clay’s character who only needed to wink to get into the show.

The reviews of the evening from both the fans and the critics were very positive and the show was a great success. Many Clay Aiken fans are looking forward to another guest appearance from Clay. Besides his wonderful voice, his comedic timing and acting would add to any episode of Saturday Night Live.

Quote of the Day

It is not always about performance art, but about receiving positive energy from people with positive spirits. Sometimes we can see someone's spirit, and those are the people with great energy. Those are the people that get me through the day, especially on Broadway. -Clay Aiken
