Clay Aiken – News, News and More News!

On June 16th,  Tracey Early at News 14 Carolina aired an interview with Clay Aiken and Lauren Kennedy about their participation in a benefit concert for the North Carolina Theatre.  Titled Bringing Broadway Home, the  concert will be on Monday, June 21st at 8pm at the Memorial Auditorium in Raleigh.  The interview is short, but filled with lots of fun information about the program and the stars ties to the NCT.  It is particularly fun to see the great rapport between Clay and Lauren.  The video is on their site and you can see it at NEWS14

Angela Hampton is a reporter at ABC11 in the Raleigh, NC community.  She reports on community events, organizations and activities that you and the entire family can take part in.  On Wednesday afternoon, she wrote a short article about her interview with Clay Aiken and the benefit show.  She said:

Clay Aiken came to our studio today to tape a segment for Heart of Carolina Perspectives (which airs Sunday, 6/20 11am). We had a blast! Even though I followed his rise to fame on “American Idol” and kept up with his successes and turmoils in the media, I have never had the opportunity to interview him, until now. He joined me on “HOCP” to talk about the benefit concert for North Carolina Theatre on Monday, June 21st at 8pm at Memorial Auditorium in Raleigh. Clay is joining four other artists who have performed at “NCT” who are lending their time and talent to this concert. It’s called “Bringing Broadway Home” and the lineup is impressive: multi-platinum recording artist Clay Aiken, Broadway actress Lauren Kennedy, Emmy nominated actress Sharon Lawrence, Tony-nominated Broadway actor Terrence Mann and singer/actress Quiana Parler. Lauren taped the segment with Clay, and they were a riot! They reminisced about early roles at N.C. Theatre and about their work on Broadway (Monty Python’s “Spamalot”) and other experiences as performers. One of the funniest moments came when I asked them if being parents had an impact on the projects they chose to do or the types of songs they sang. Clay said his son (who is still a toddler) doesn’t like to hear him sing! He verbally protests when Daddy breaks into song. Go figure! Clay has other anecdotes to share from growing up in Raleigh and performing at NCT. Check ‘em out this Sunday at 11am on “HOCP”. No matter your musical tastes, we should be proud of our local performers who’ve made it to the “big time” and are now giving back to the local community by helping a non-profit that helped them get their start. By the way, tickets are still available for Monday’s concert. I hope you’ll support NCT, the region’s only theater producing professional broadway musical revivals!

So…….lets all tune in to ABC11 on Sunday to hear Clay on the program, Heart of Carolina Perspectives.  I am sure it will be another great interview.  And, why not visit Angela’s article and leave a message to let her know we are looking forward to her interview with Clay.  ABC11

Decca Music has a nice artist page for Clay Aiken on their website.  Today, they added Clay’s performance of Unchained Melody on The View.  It would be great to visit the page, watch the video and leave a comment to let them know we love Clay.  DECCA

An interesting Tweet showed up on Wednesday from a company called MOTT MARKETING.

Check out @clayaiken on @popeater (AOL) on June 24th! They followed Clay for a day and documented it via photos, video, interview and more!

Popeater is an entertainment site that has been very supportive of Clay recently.  It looks like they will have some more information about “A Day in the life of Clay Aiken.”  Lets look for it on June 24th.

There is one more bit of news.  Clay Aiken’s Official Fan Club announced a Meet & Greet Sweepstakes.  OFC members will have the opportunity to win a M &G with Clay and Ruben on their upcoming “Timeless Tour” this summer.  The sweepstakes will begin on June 17th and run for two weeks.  So, if you are planning on attending one or more of the concerts  this summer, why not try and win one of the 5 spots for each concert.  For more information, visit the new Official Fan Club Site.

Clay Aiken Releases More Tickets To Sold-Out Show
Clay Aiken fans, if you thought you were out of luck when tickets to his one-night only show sold-out, think again. A limited number of tickets will be released starting at Noon Tuesday, March 9.

Aiken originally sold out the show at the Memorial Auditorium within minutes after being on-sale to the public.

According to a press release, due to popular demand, Aiken and his production team “worked to reconfigure the stage set-up in order to release a limited number of seats that were being held for TV production”.

“I sincerely thank my fans for their support. Selling out the Memorial Auditorium in minutes is so mind blowing to me, and now luckily I can get some more fans into the audience with these extra tickets” said the singer. “I can’t wait to share the new music with everyone and I promise to make it a one of a kind, extra special show.”

Tickets will be available on Ticketmaster.com at Noon (EST) on Tuesday, March 9.

We also got information about donated tickets from The Way We Make A Difference

There is still time to donate tickets……the time is now!

Thursday at noon is the deadline to donate tickets…..Ticketfast only, please!

Sufficient time is needed for all involved, especially the agencies who need to distribute tickets on their end.

A huge thank you to everyone who has donated tickets thus far.  Because of your generosity, over 60 (and counting) people with and without disabilities will be able to experience the joy of attending a concert together………a Clay Aiken concert and TV taping.  What a wonderful opportunity!

The ARC of Orange County. located in Chapel Hill, has many program participants who are excited at the prospect of attending this show.  We are also working with Ronald McDonald Houses in Durham and Chapel Hill.  They are excited and very pleased with the offer.

Sometimes change begins with something as simple as a concert ticket.

Clay Aiken – The Answer Man Celebrates The Year of the Tiger With Hearts

By musicfan123 · Comments 8311(5)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2010%2F02%2F15%2Fclay-aiken-the-answer-man-celebrates-the-year-of-the-tiger-with-hearts%2FClay+Aiken+-++The+Answer+Man+Celebrates+The+Year+of+the+Tiger+With+Hearts2010-02-15+07%3A24%3A06musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D8311
Monday, February 15th, 2010

As you can tell by the headline, Clay Aiken fans are celebrating many things today.

First, Clay took time from his Sunday to answer some fan questions at the OFC.  Altogether, there were 12 questions that fans asked about his upcoming concert in Raleigh.  They ranged from questions about appropriate dress to accessible seating and elevators.  Clay was  thoughtful and considerate as he answered each question with care He even said he would try to get more information before Tuesday.  So, if you haven’t read the answers, get yourself over to the OFC and learn a bit more about the event.

Do you think Clay had Chinese food on Saturday evening?  Sunday was Chinese New Year…..The Year of the Tiger.

Chinese New Year is a holiday that celebrates the beginning of a new year according to the lunar calendar.  It is considered to be one of the most important holidays for Chinese families.

The holiday is celebrated with big family gatherings, gift giving, the eating of symbolic foods and displays of festive decorations.  All of these traditions are focused on bringing good luck for the new year and celebrating the coming of Spring.

The start of Chinese New Year changes every year since it is dictated by the lunar calendar, but typically falls somewhere between January 21st and February 20th.

On the eve of the Chinese New Year it is customary to visit with relatives and partake in a large dinner where a number of specific foods are served.

Grace Young wrote a book titled The Wisdom of the Chinese Kitchen.  She says:

“Typically families do eight or nine dishes because they are lucky numbers.   The Chinese word for eight is baat [in Cantonese], which rhymes with faat, the word for prosperity.”The word for nine means “long-lasting.”

A lot of the foods are very symbolic.   Some popular foods include: dumplings (because they look like golden nuggets), oranges (because they are perfectly round, symbolizing completeness and wholeness), and long noodles (served to symbolize long life).

Sticky rice cakes and sweets are also served and are tied to a story about the Kitchen God– a Santa Claus-like figure who reports to the Jade Emperor in heaven on whether families have been good or bad through the course of the year. According to legend, when families serve the Kitchen God sticky, delicious foods, his mouth gets stuck together and therefore he cannot report any bad things about the family to the Jade Emperor.

Well, I am getting hungry!!

It is a traditional practice for adults to give children little red envelopes–hong bao in Mandarin or lai-see in Cantonese–filled with money in order to symbolize wealth and prosperity for the coming year.

Chinese New Year is filled with so many traditions.  If you want more information visit Chinese Traditions

AND…………afterall, this is a Clay Aiken blog…………..Valentine’s Day was Sunday too.    When I think of Valentine’s Day, I will always remember Clay and Jimmy Kimmel.  So…….lets all remember with a great video.

Quote of the Day

It is not always about performance art, but about receiving positive energy from people with positive spirits. Sometimes we can see someone's spirit, and those are the people with great energy. Those are the people that get me through the day, especially on Broadway. -Clay Aiken
