Clay Aiken – Perfect For Valentine’s Day

Today is Valentine’s Day!  Last year, Clay Aiken was performing at Jones Hall in Houston, Texas.  The concert was part of Aiken’s Tried & True Tour.  In part of the PR that was a part of this Valentine’s Concert, Clay said that all the music would be love songs and it was perfect for Valentine’s Day.  He said:

…Everyone is welcome and encouraged to come and show their love of the person that they are with, regardless of who they are and who they are with. I hope to see everyone there.

My two favorite love songs that Clay Aiken sings are Something About Us and Bring Back My Love.  They both should be heard many times today!!  What is your favorite Love song that Clay sings?

Did you know that:

  • Approximately 141 million Valentine’s Day cards are exchanged annually?
  • Women purchase 85% of all Valentines.
  • The first commercial Valentine’s card was produced in 1840
  • Since red stands for strong feelings, the red rose is a flower of love.

Since 2005, Clay Aiken and Valentine’s Day have never quite been the same.  Most fans of Clay Aiken will always remember the excitement that filled our televisions and hearts when we watched Clay and Jimmy Kimmel celebrate Valentine’s Day together that February.

Surrounded by the love of his fans, Clay took the stage with a huge smile on his face. Both Jimmy and Clay seemed amazed and somewhat awed by the amount of gifts that were brought by Clay’s fans.  There were red and white balloons, flowers, cute stuffed animals and lots and lots of pizza.  Jimmy commented that there were even more gifts backstage.

There was no doubt that Clay Aiken and Jimmy Kimmel were friends.  They chatted together and included the audience in their fun.  Their friendly banter made February 14th a day to remember.

Jimmy and Clay spent their second Valentine’s Day together in 2007.  As in the previous celebration, Clay’s fans enthusiastically greeted Clay and had a good laugh when Clay gifted Jimmy with a shirt with his picture on it.

The highlight of the evening was a wonderful Valentine song that Clay performed while picking through candy hearts.  It was sweet, funny, and original, all at the same time.

Thank you to Clay Aiken and Jimmy Kimmel for making Valentine’s Day special and memorable.

Would you like to re-live those two special nights?  If so, please click on the videos.  They are special performances and are guaranteed to make you smile.

A BIG Thank you to all of you who participated in the Song Poll this week.  It was fun to see some names I didn’t recognize.  I hope you will comment again!!

I found the results of the poll to be very interesting.  Of course, this is just a small group of fans that voted, but it still showed a trend.  So…here we go!!

Measure of A Man

Every song from this album received votes.  This Is The Night received the least votes.

10 points – The Way

8 points – Measure of A Man

6 points – Touch

5 points – I Survived You

Merry Christmas With Love

Four songs received no votes

18 points – Mary, Did You Know

13 points – Don’t Save It All For Christmas Day

8 points – O Holy Night

A Thousand Different Ways

This was very close…there didn’t seem to be a huge favorite from this album.

7 points – Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word

6 points – A Thousand Days

5 points – Because You Loved Me

5 points – Here You Come Again

5 points – Broken Wings

On My Way Here

The only song without any vote was Weight of The World.

9 points – Something About Us

8 points – Everything I Don’t Need

4 points – Ashes, As Long As We’re Here, Sacrificial Love

Tried & True

Every song received at least one point…but this wasn’t even close!!

24 points – Unchained Melody

7 points – Suspicious Minds

5 points – It’s Impossible

There were lots of comments that mentioned All Is Well and wanted to vote for it.  Also, Lover All Alone received votes for two albums…if you put them together; people seem to really enjoy it!!

Are the results surprising to you?  Did any of your favorites win??

Thanks again for participating.  I think this was fun!!

A quick apology for the Wednesday Blog.   I need to proof-read a little better.  I did know that August 24th was not Clay’s birthday…I just didn’t write it clearly.  I did change it when I checked in the morning!!

Clay Aiken – The Wedding of the Decade!

The big day is here. Kate Middleton will marry her Prince today and an estimated 2 billion people from around the world will watch, while 1900 invited guests will be in the church.

It is being called the wedding of the year, but it is so much more than that. It is the wedding of the decade!

As a musician, I am interested in the music that will be a part of the wedding.  The following information about the music was found on William and Kate.com:

Prince William and Kate Middleton have chosen two choirs, one orchestra and two fanfare teams to perform at their Wedding Service.

The Choir of Westminster Abbey is made up of 20 boys from the Abbey’s residential Choir School and 12 adult singers. They perform at the Abbey throughout the year. The Chapel Royal Choir also combines ten children and six adult singers. The history of this Choir goes back to the Norman Conquest; they have performed at numerous Royal events.

The London Chamber Orchestra will comprise 39 musicians and will be conducted by Mr. Christopher Warren-Green. Also the Military will be represented: the Fanfare Team from the Central Band of the Royal Air Force and the State Trumpeters of The Household Cavalry each consist of active members of the forces.

Some details of the Ceremony are already public: The service will begin at 11:00 and will be conducted by the Dean of Westminster, the wedding ceremony will be performed by Rowan Douglas, the Archbishop of Canterbury, and the address will be given by the Bishop of London.

Following the ceremony, William and Kate will return to Buckingham Palace in a carriage procession. At the palace they will be met by the Queen, who will host a reception for all who attended the ceremony. In the evening, Prince Charles will host a private dinner for the bride and groom’s closest friends and family.

The staff of Westminster Abbey is currently busy with making sure that everything is ready for its 16th royal wedding. This includes laundering and ironing the High Altar cloth, which is more than 50 feet across.

The BBC plans to use more than 30 cameras inside Westminster Abbey to broadcast the ceremony worldwide.

The relationship between William and Catherine seems to be a true love story.  The two of them have been friends for many years and seem to be very happy.

The following montage about their journey together is beautiful.  The combination of their pictures and Clay Aiken singing, Something About Us produces a real love story. This beautiful song should be sung at many weddings!!  Thank you to LovesClaysVoice for the montage.

Clay Aiken – That Special Song!

Sometimes a certain song just gets to you.  Maybe it’s the melody that plays over and over in your mind.  Other times it’s the arrangement, listening for the brass, the beat of the drums and the way the arranger weaves the strings to produce a certain emotion.  To many the lyrics of the song are the most important.  When the song conveys a story, it is hard to forget.

Clay Aiken sings one of my “gets you” songs.  It has the most plays on my I-Tunes list and it always seems to make me feel good. I love the beautiful melody, the lush arrangement and the lyrics convey such love that you can’t help but feel good. From Clay’s album, On My Way Here, the song is titled Something About Us.

Three outstanding composers wrote Something About Us.  Michael O’Brien, Scotty Wilbanks and Regie Hamm are all award winning musicians who are first known for their singing and then known as amazing song writers.

Michael O’Brien is probably most known from his 7-year tenure as lead singer of the Christian band Newsong. But, he has actually been in the music ministry for some 20 years now and has built a reputation as an incredibly gifted singer and songwriter.  He put together a CD filled with 14 original love songs.  Michael said about the CD:

“Our goal was to create a work that would give couples an opportunity to have romantic interludes in a style reminiscent of Nat King Cole. It’s like Song of Solomon set to music. Romantic! Poetic! I believe Christians should be writing the most beautiful love songs ever.”

Regie Hamm has won many Dove awards for his music.  He has had many #1 hits on Christian radio.  Regie wrote the final song for David Cook when he won on American Idol.

Scotty Wilbanks seems to be a man who loves life and enjoys being free and happy.  He has earned many Dove Awards for his hits in the Christian Music field.

I don’t know how these young men got together to write Something About Us, but between their beautiful song and Clay Aiken’s soaring vocals and passion, this song “gets to me”.

Stop the music, play the song
We’ll dance together all night long
The spotlight glows, somehow it knows,
That there’s something about us
Something about us

People smile when they walk by
There’s too much magic to deny
A fool can see we’re meant to be
’cause there’s something about us,
something about us

The words on every poet’s tongue
Every love song ever sung
about us, it’s about us
From Romeo and Juliet,
to plays they haven’t written yet
It’s old and new, it’s a classic tale of two
of our perfectly perfect love

You can see it in our ways
in how we spend our nights and days
A crazy laugh, a photograph
There’s just something about
something about us

The words on every poet’s tongue
Every love song ever sung
about us, it’s about us
From Romeo and Juliet,
to plays they haven’t written yet
It’s old and new, it’s a classic tale of two
of our perfectly perfect love

So stop the music, play the song
And we’ll dance together all night long
We’ll reminisce of moments like this
Cause there’s something about us
something about us
yes, there something about us….

Clay Aiken – The Singer Becomes The Instrument

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

On Tuesday I spent more time than I should, listening to Clay Aiken sing.  I started with Misty, clicked on Can’t Take My Eyes Off Of You and pulled out On My Way Here and listened to Something About Us.  When we got the news that we could get a MP3 of Suspicious Minds, I downloaded it immediately and listened to it more times than I could count.

What this did was make me hunt for some answers.  What is Music?  Why am I so touched?  Why do I feel better after listening?

First, I looked at some short answers:

Music is what life sounds like.  ~Eric Olson

Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.  ~Berthold Auerbach

He who sings scares away his woes.  ~Cervantes

In music the passions enjoy themselves.  ~Nietzsche, Beyond Good and Evil, 1886

Very nice, but when I found an article by the world-renowned singer, Annie Lennox, I had to read it all.  The following is a part of her article from 2008.  If you want to read then entire article, you can find it at RESURGENCE

What is music?  Music is pure magic.  It is a wonderful gift to humanity.  Music moves us, and soothes us.  It stimulates.  It makes us want to dance or sing.  It makes us feel happy or sad, inspired or uplifted.  It affects our mood in all kinds of infinite ways.  It can be exquisitely subtle or wildly raucous: from lullaby, to a war cry for revolution.

EVER SINCE I can remember, music has been an accompaniment to my life. It would be impossible for me to even try and conceptualize a world without music. If you have a natural aptitude and appreciation for it, then music simply draws you to it and connects. Watch a baby nodding her head, clapping her hands, or bouncing in response to a rhythm or melody…….

Songs in particular contain something profoundly elemental. The singer actually ‘becomes’ the instrument, or vehicle of communication and expression. Through the combination of voice, lyrical content and poetic structure, melody, rhythm, the nuance of combined tonal qualities and phrasing within the breath, singers can transmit and translate thoughts and feelings, potentially elevating and transporting both the singer and the listener to another realm. Music really can lead us into another dimension.

Music also tells stories, breaks hearts, reduces us to tears, or seduces us into falling in love, over and over and over again. Music is a universal language. A human creation from a divine source… perhaps.

Music is a mystery, a code. A vehicle of spirit and soul. It is perceived through ‘hearing’ the vibration of sound, the most sublime resonance – from the eardrum to the brain. Music moves us beyond intellect to the heart-centre…….

Did Annie realize she was writing about Clay Aiken when she wrote the bolded words?  Whatever, or whoever she was writing about really doesn’t matter.  I just realize that we are so lucky to be able to lose ourselves in the stunning voice that belongs to Clay Aiken.

On My Way Here

On My Way Here

Congratulations to DonnaLoveWayne (Maplestik).  Her “Something About Us” montage will be shown at one of the Inaugural Balls on January 20th. It seems that this has been in the works for many weeks as she had to give permission for it to be shown.

This is an honor for both the video maker and Clay Aiken who sings this love song with such passion. Perhaps the President-elect and his charming wife will have the time to dance to it.

Below is the  wonderful video on YouTube:

Quote of the Day

It is not always about performance art, but about receiving positive energy from people with positive spirits. Sometimes we can see someone's spirit, and those are the people with great energy. Those are the people that get me through the day, especially on Broadway. -Clay Aiken
