Clay Aiken – Lots of Promotion!

In four days, the 5th episode of Season 5 of Celebrity Apprentice will be broadcast.  However, the promotion and reviews of last weeks episode can still be found all over the Internet.

This week, Celebrity Apprentice and Buick announced a sweepstakes to win a 2012 Verano, along with two tickets to the live finale of Celebrity Apprentice in New York City, complete with two first-class airline tickets, a two-night stay in a luxury hotel, and other perks.  For more information on this sweepstakes, you can visit  FACEBOOK

Clay Aiken and The National Inclusion Project came up with a inventive way to make some money for the charity.  Win an Autographed Buick Verano Promotional Brochure from the Celebrity Apprentice!  This link takes you to the webpage for the Project and you have the opportunity to bid on 2 copies of the Buick Verona brochure signed by all the men on Clay’s team.

One of my favorite blogs for Celebrity Apprentice is named TVgasm.  Each week, the funny and talented writer reviews the Sunday episode.  The updated blog was posted today.  One of the highlights of this blog is how the author combines words and pictures.  There is no holding back and some of it is a bit racy, but it is very well done.  You can see this blog at TVgasm

Do you know about VEVO?  According to Crunchbase:

VEVO is the web’s number one premium music video and entertainment service with over 1.4 billion worldwide streams and nearly 50 million unique visitors in the U.S. and Canada each month. VEVO’s programming is made available across the VEVO Network, which includes VEVO.com (the service’s marquee destination site), VEVO on YouTube, and a VEVO-branded embedded player. The service also serves as a syndication platform for additional internet destination sites, including AOL and CBS Interactive Music Group, expanding the reach of the VEVO Network across the worldwide web.

VEVO was created in partnership by Universal Music Group (UMG), Sony Music Entertainment (SME) and the Abu Dhabi Media Company. It is operated independently by a dedicated management team with offices in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Detroit and San Francisco.

The number of plays of the videos is monitored by the music companies, advertisers, Billboard and Big Champagne.  It is important that artists get high numbers.  So…why not play some of Clay’s videos on this site.  It’s always fun to watch Clay and if it helps just a little bit, its worth it to me.

There are 10 videos on Clay’s page at Vevo.  The list of the videos is on the right hand side of the screen.  Lets see if we can make a difference.  You can see the videos at VEVO

I just love these pictures and had to include them on this page.

Clay Aiken – Tambourine Player!

Happy Leap Year! Leap years only come about once every four years. Why? Well, in my words…Leap year came about when the creators of the solar calendar realized we needed to add an extra day every four years to synchronize with the seasons and with the astronomical year. February 29 has become known as Leap Day. Since it only comes around every four years, do you have any special Leap Day traditions?

After last weekends broadcast of Celebrity Apprentice, the news, the speculation and the insults continue.  Did you read these articles?

From Television Blend:

Celebrity Apprentice Power Rankings:  Lou Hulks Up In The Boardroom

This site ranked each contestant.  The following is what they said about Clay Aiken:

#11) Clay Aiken (16): Clay Aiken has been fairly effective thus far this season. He gets plenty of screen time each episode, due to his singing skills and his energetic presence. This week, he jumped around with a tambourine, he sang to get the crowd pumped up during the challenge, and he kept the men’s team on track to ensure the lighting and sound guys got the right cues. Clay Aiken knows what he has and how to make use of his own skills. However, he does not always fully understand his teammates personalities or what skills those teammates possess. Expect him to stick around for a while as the helpful dude with some good ideas, but do not be surprised if a run at project manager ends up being a disaster for Aiken.

Hmmmm!!  I don’t think these people know much about Clay!  You can read the entire article at  TVBlend

Digital Spy wrote a review of the entire episode of Celebrity Apprentice.  It was somewhat accurate, but had little to say about Clay.  This is all I found in the article:

Penn – who narrates with George Takei - admits the whole piece doesn’t really have a plot, it’s more to highlight the celebrity team.

Their idea is two knights - Lou Ferrigno aka Sir Lou of Hope and Paul Teutul aka Sir Paul, The Orange County Senior – jousting over the hand of a beautiful maiden (played by Dee Snider in drag) who is accompanied by her trusty sidekick Clay Aiken, who introduces her by singing. Sir Lou ends up winning but when he sees his prize up close opts to kill himself rather than kiss her.

The men seem to work well together during rehearsals, with the only real mishap being Snider breaking his finger, however instead of going to the hospital he soldiers on with the show.

The entire article can be read at DigitalSpy

The NewsObserver.com, from Clay’s hometown of Raleigh, wrote am interesting article about Celebrity Apprentice.

Lampanelli Goes Mid-Evil on Gotti

Our homeboy Clay Aiken was at the center of some of the early drama, as his tambourine shaking during rehearsal spooked a horse, which threw Twisted Sister singer Dee Snider. Snider’s finger snapped at the base and will require surgery to repair.

But Dee wasn’t mad, even when Clay danced by after the accident singing, “She broke a nail, how that sucks.” Dee, who was dressed as a woman at the time, shouted: “No, finger! FINGER!” So Clay sang, “She broke a finger, damn that’s worse!” Clay didn’t realize at first that Dee’s finger was broken, or how bad it was.

An aside: Here’s the crazy thing about this challenge (to me) as far as Clay is concerned. The teams had to put on a show at Medieval Times and Clay has actually starred on Broadway in Spamalot — and no one ever mentioned that! At least not as far as I caught. If I’m wrong, I’m confident some Clay fans will not hesitate to correct me. But from the beginning, I expected Penn to give Clay a larger role in the show. I do realize Penn needed to spread the attention around and I can’t argue with how he ran the show, because his team won. But if I’m Penn and I’m handed a Medieval show, I look around and see Clay and I use the heck out of that.

-Clay wrote the script for his team’s show, and he brought the hammer down on George Takei when his reading of the script fouled up the cues for lighting folks. Takei finally agreed to just read the script and not try to “perform” it.

-We got to see Clay’s claws come out a little. As the men sat safely in another room watching the women fight for survival via a TV monitor, Clay psychoanalyzed Aubrey O’Day. Clay said Aubrey was “so insecure, I don’t think she likes not being the prettiest one on the cast.” Arsenio: “Are you saying Dayana is prettier than Aubrey?” Clay (laughing): “I’m saying Victoria is prettier than Aubrey.” Snap. (NOTE: As soon as that aired on TV last night, Clay tweeted this: “I have a lot of respect for @AubreyODay Showed my ass 2nite by saying something stupid 2 try 2 get laugh. I love Aubrey and apologize!”)

It’s nice to finally see the News-Observer write something nice about Clay!  To read the entire article visit NewsObserver.

From NBC/Celebrity Apprentice:  Pick a celebrity and download a message for your phone:  Clay’s message is cute…some of the others…well, maybe heir fans will find them interesting.  Clay’s voice for free…not a  bad thing. You can hear the messages at  NBCCelebrity

Billboard.com published an article titled:  American Idol’s All-Time Top 24

This article has placed Clay Aiken in 5th place.  This is the write-up about Clay:

Clay Aiken

Album Sales: 4,997,000
Track Sales: 610,000
Radio Plays: 201,000
YouTube Plays: 664,445
Clay Aiken may have lost to Ruben Studdard in 2003, but he’s still the season two favorite in the minds of many longtime “Idol” fans — and he has the sales and a No. 1 single to prove it. With a stint on Broadway’s “Spamalot” and five Top-10 albums under his belt (plus one reportedly on the way), Aiken has had his time to shine. His Claymates will be the first to tell you that.
The entire list can be seen at Billboard

It is interesting to see the different topics that Billboard uses to rank the Idols.  Perhaps we all need to click into Clay’s Vevo page and play a few of his official YouTubes.  It’s fun to see the videos and it certainly helps Clay.

So… what do you think?  Are you enjoying all the news about Clay?  Who do you think are 1-4 on the Billboard list?

Clay Aiken – Yes…We Can!!

By musicfan123 · Comments 10169(16)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2011%2F01%2F17%2Fclay-aiken-yes-we-can%2FClay+Aiken+-+Yes...We+Can%21%212011-01-17+07%3A08%3A36musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D10169

Are you a fan of Clay Aiken?  Do you want to know why you should seriously consider becoming an active member of FaceBook, Twitter, and YouTube…why it is important that you read and comment at blogs and articles about Clay?  If you read the following information, I hope you will see why it is paramount that we all participate in the social/digital world of a musician.

On July 20th, Big Champagne unveiled The Ultimate Chart at the New Music Seminar in New York City.

The purpose of the Ultimate Chart is to update old methods that were used to track the popularity of songs and artists. For years, Billboard charts have ranked musicians by sales only. The Ultimate Chart uses everything from Amazon downloads and YouTube/Vevo views to Facebook fans and Twitter followers to provide the music industry a chart for the digital age.

Eric Garland, the CEO of Big Champagne said:

“For the first time this is getting beyond but not leaving behind traditional sales and airplay. What we’ve tried to do is take everything we know about the ways in which artists and their fans connect and put that into one measure, so that we really know where we stand.”

Big Champagne’s partners and sources for the Ultimate Chart include retailers, online and traditional broadcasters (radio and television), major content companies, subscription services, social networks and other venues where fans demonstrate their passion for music. These include: Yahoo! Music, Amazon, iTunes, YouTube, VEVO, MySpace, Facebook, Twitter, MTV, ClearChannel, MediaBase, AOL, Napster, Microsoft Zune, We Are Hunted, LastFM and many more.

Data provided by Big Champagne is being used by major music companies to make decisions about signing artists and promoting music online and to radio stations.   Broadcasters use Big Champagne to help determine the list of songs performed on commercial radio and music television.

Tamara Conniff is the Founder/Editor of The Comet and a former Billboard Editor-in-Chief and Associate Publisher.  She is a huge fan of the Ultimate Chart:

“This chart is long overdue and represents for the first time an
accurate view of where popular music is today. Music is not just about sales, it’s about interaction—listening, watching, playlisting, evangelizing and socializing. The Comet will be publishing the Ultimate Chart and using Big Champagne’s data for analysis, prediction, and consumer trends.”

The following chart is an example of how Big Champagne comes up with their figures.  It does seem like a more concise way of measuring celebrity relevance in the entertainment field.

The Ultimate chart is the up and coming way to compare the relevancy of stars.  It is being posted at many of the top music webpages.

I thought a chart that compares some FaceBook and Twitter numbers would help to see the big picture.  The Facebook column is the number of friends and the twitter column is the number of people following the singer.

I have read on many of the Clay Aiken boards that many of his fans are a bit afraid of FaceBook and Twitter.  Well, I think it is time for each of us to get signed up and get counted for supporting Clay.  It doesn’t cost anything and if you are afraid of privacy issues, sign up as whatever name you want and don’t add any information you don’t want to.  And, use it only to support Clay.

If there are those who don’t know how to use the sites, lets set up a “Twitter for Dummies” site and another for FaceBook.  Perhaps someone can host a thread at each board.  AND, if all else fails, send me a message and I will set up something here.

Do you have any suggestions??  Is this something we can work on as a huge group?  If you believe that this information is important, please pass the word around.  Post the chart, copy some of the important facts or, if you have permission, leave a link.  I never ask this, but today, I feel this information should be shared.

Clay Aiken – The Ever-Evolving Music Industry

By musicfan123 · Comments 9995(16)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2010%2F08%2F24%2Fclay-aiken-the-ever-evolving-music-industry%2FClay+Aiken+%E2%80%93+The+Ever-Evolving+Music+Industry2010-08-24+08%3A16%3A02musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D9995

The Bandwidth Music and Technology Conference is an annual gathering of music, digital music and media leaders who gather to explore the ever-evolving music industry and how people discover, purchase, and interact with music.  The sixth annual Bandwidth conference took place in San Francisco on August 19th and 20th.

The aim of the conference is to bring together the brightest minds in music and technology.  This year, it was especially interesting because most of the major music labels attended the conference. Interscope, Geffen A&M Records, Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, Hollywood Records, Sony Music and Warner Bros Records all participated in the conference. In addition, super tech savvy music distribution companies were there. The biggest names in the music tech field like Cisco, Wal-Mart, HP and Twitter also mixed it up with both old and new players in music.

Since the conference took place in my area, I thought I might like to attend the two-day event.  Then, I found out that the fee for the two-day event was almost $700.  Instead, I have been reading reports of the conference on the Internet…………FREE!!

During day one of the discussions, the following data points were shared. These really opened my eyes.

The latest on Twitter…

• # of tweets, daily: 70 million
• # of tweets, monthly: 2 billion
• # of registered users: 145 million
• # of account sign-ups, daily: 300,000
• @amazonmp3 followers: 1,489,543
• Michael Tilson Thomas followers (@mtilsonthomas): 1,754 (famous orchestral conductor.)

(Source: Matt Graves, Communications Director @ Twitter. AmazonMP3 and Thomas followers sourced directly. )

The latest on photos…

• # of photos uploaded onto Facebook, monthly: 2.5 billion
• # of photos uploaded to Facebook, annually: 30 billion
• # of approved photos typically needed by a band, 2000: 6-9
• # of approved photos typically needed by a band, 2010: 300-400

The latest on YouTube:

• #2 search engine in the world (of all engines, separated from Google)
• # of videos rotated by MTV, during its 80s prime: 30-40 per week
• # of views for Tyler Hilton’s cover of  ”Use Somebody” by Kings of Leon: 748,099

The latest on apps:

• # of downloaded apps, App Store: > 5 billion (as of June)
• # of artist apps typically downloaded: < 100,000

(Source on YouTube, photo and apps data: Jeremy Welt, SVP of New Media, Warner Bros. Records.  Total downloaded app statistic from Apple.)

In the new media space, an artist’s presence in Twitter is deemed more important than having a Myspace page.  About three years ago, a Myspace page was required for any self-respecting band or superstar. Today it’s about how many Twitter followers and Facebook friends a band can get. This change from Myspace speaks to the speed of change in both the music and technology world.

The discussion that followed the presentation of all this data was, according to those in attendance, lively and full of heated discussions.  The different ideas and concepts of what the data means were pretty much dictated by old and new “players” in the music business field.

Another topic discussed during the conference was the decision by Universal Music to pull its music videos from MTV.   Instead of putting it’s videos on MTV.com, Universal will show its music videos exclusively online at vevo.com. The change will happen after the Video Music Awards on Sept 21. Vevo.com is the No. 3 video site on the web with 43.7 million viewers in June.

It was only a few years ago that in order to launch and promote their artists labels, managers and agents had to negotiate and sometimes beg MTV for slots. It certainly isn’t that way anymore. It seems the labels don’t even care about it anymore. For Universal and its artists, being exclusively on-line is just fine.

According to reports from the conference, the music industry seems to be excited and looking forward to the positive changes in the field.  Despite the uncontrolled decline of CD sales and the rise of online and offline counterfeiting, legitimate sales of digital music is continuing to grow.  According to Yobie Benjamin at the San Francisco Chronicle:

Artists, managers and agents are no longer under the thumb of radio or music TV program directors. They don’t have to pay payola for airtime. Today it’s about your Twitter feed, your social networking creds and your relationship to the music bloggers. SPIN Magazine and Rolling Stone used to be the holy grail of music stardom… Not anymore…

Agents do not waste their time trying to get the programming director of some rock and roll radio station to return their calls any more.

Mass media is being replaced by pin-point precise media. Music today is more focused on the audience of one rather than getting on some shock music jock’s playlist. And why not? A single person on Twitter can have 10,000 followers so the multiplier effect is astronomical. Hitting the right fan returns far more results than being on a Sirius satellite channel or a mention on Billboard magazine.

Besides being interesting, there is a reason for putting this information in a blog about Clay Aiken. It seems to me that we need to see these numbers and their meaning and realize that we can support Clay more by being a viable force on the Internet sites.  FaceBook and Twitter are now more important than ever.  If we truly want to support Clay, we all need to become familiar with these great sites instead of relying on our younger fans to do it all.  There isn’t one of us who cannot get a FaceBook account or be active on Twitter.  Yes, it will take a bit of time, but the rewards are worth every minute.

I did a quick look at the twitter numbers of some music stars…

*  Eminem has  1,416,455 followers

*  Lady Gaga has   5,754,535 followers

*  Adam Lambert has  613728 followers

*  Kelly Clarkson has  346,611 followers

*  Glee has   250,242 followers

*  CANN (that’s us) has   2,302 followers

Do you know how many followers Clay has?  Well, why not look it up?  I think you will be surprised!

What do you think?  Can we help each other and get more facebook and twitter support for Clay?

Clay Aiken – MTV for the Digital Age

By musicfan123 · Comments 7323(11)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2009%2F12%2F10%2Fclay-aiken-mtv-for-the-digital-age%2FClay+Aiken+-+MTV+for+the+Digital+Age2009-12-10+08%3A20%3A26musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D7323
Thursday, December 10th, 2009

On December 8, 2009, a new site was launched on the web.  Named Vevo, the site aims to be the MTV of the Web.  The musical video site is backed by Universal, Sony and EMI and was created by YouTube.

According to Doug Morris, the chairman and chief executive of Universal Music, “Vevo is a chance, perhaps the chance to please stop playing defense,  Vevo is a huge platform, and you know what’s best of all?  It’s our platform.”

Plans for Vevo were first announced in April. YouTube described Vevo as a “premium online music video hub” that will be powered by YouTube’s video technology. Users can access the content via Vevo.com or through a new Vevo YouTube channel, which will include a Vevo-branded embedded player.

Rio Caraeff is the chief executive of Vevo.  He said in an interview that, “It will be a higher-quality experience around music and videos than anything else that’s currently out there.”  He also said that the site would host 30,000 music videos by the end of the year.  Vevo will carry original programs by artist for their fans.  It will also contain programming from CBS radio stations.

The idea is to create an MTV for the digital age.  They want a music site where all the latest and archived videos can be found.

This is a difficult time for music companies as they are losing revenue and profits due to the combined impact of falling sales and online piracy.   Vevo presents a new method for fans to discover new music.

How does Clay Aiken fit into this?  Well, I am really looking forward to seeing professional videos of Clay singing new songs from his first CD from Decca.

Clay Aiken – Thinking Outside The Box

By musicfan123 · Comments 5888(33)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2009%2F08%2F12%2Fclay-aiken-thinking-outside-the-box%2FClay+Aiken+-+Thinking+Outside+The+Box2009-08-12+07%3A11%3A04musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D5888
Wednesday, August 12th, 2009

Has it only been two days?   Clay Aiken’s Official Fan Club announced the news that Clay signed a record deal with Universal Music’s Decca Records on Monday afternoon.

In the last 36 hours, I have enjoyed learning more about the Universal Music Group and Decca Records.  Although history is important, I have been concentrating on the future and how this huge company will help and support Clay Aiken.  So, I have been finding little bits of information and will pass them along.

Last night, I read that in May of 2009, Universal Music Group led the competition as one of the country’s Top 10 online music destinations.  The data was compiled by comScore, a recognized leader in measuring the digital world.

Ranking number 8 in the Entertainment Music Category, UMG’s online music properties include cutting-edge and dynamic artist-related web sites. These artist sites feature premium audio and video product, editorial content, news and online shopping.  That sounds like something I would love to see for Clay.

It was also announced that later this year, UMG will collaborate with Google to launch Vevo, a music and video entertainment service.  Vevo will have music videos, interviews, concert footage and some backstage videos.

According to UMG chief, Doug Morris:

“Vevo will bring the most compelling premium music video content and services to the world’s single largest online video audience. We believe that at launch, Vevo will already have more traffic than any other music video site in the United States and in the world.”

The site will be completely owned by Universal Music Group.  Their YouTube channel has more views than any other in the world, calculated to be at 3.5 billion.  Google will be in charge of the technology aspects of the service.

The Internet site Wired seems to think that Vevo could become “the” place on the web that can legally play or allow site to embed content.  They said,

“If this works, YouTube, as Vevo, really could save the music business.”

It is interesting to see that Universal Music Group is not marking time, but moving ahead and trying to bring the music business up to date and thinking outside the box.   It makes me excited to see what Decca has planned for Clay.

Quote of the Day

It is not always about performance art, but about receiving positive energy from people with positive spirits. Sometimes we can see someone's spirit, and those are the people with great energy. Those are the people that get me through the day, especially on Broadway. -Clay Aiken
