Clay Aiken – Broadway in North Carolina

Today is June 21st.  Do you remember what Clay Aiken was doing two years ago on June 21st?  Think:

  • Raleigh
  • Memorial Auditorium
  • Beautiful Broadway songs

OK…I bet you remember now.  It was Clay’s performance at Bringing Broadway Home.  This event was a benefit concert to celebrate 27 seasons of Broadway at the North Carolina Theater.  Lauren Kennedy, Terrance Mann, Sharon Lawrence, and Quiana Parler joined Clay on stage for this remarkable concert.  Each artist had performed with the North Carolina Theatre in previous seasons.

Clay opened the concert with “Home” from The Wiz. It was so appropriate because this show was all about the homegrown talent from Raleigh.  Clay also sang Mack The Knife, What Kind of Fool Am I, This is the Moment, Those Magic Changes.  He also sang duets with Quiana and Lauren.  One of the highlights of the evening was Imagine by John Lennon.  The entire ensemble joined together in an amazing performance of the wonderful song.

From all the reviews, the program was amazing and each singer brought so much to the stage.

Did you get to attend this concert?  This was one that I didn’t get to attend and I am so sorry.  I know I would have enjoyed it.  Thank goodness for CLACK!!

  1. Like you Musicfan, I would have loved to have been at that concert. I go back and watch those videos
regularly – they are some of my favorites. Thank you for reminding us of this great show – Clay is
such a blessing to music and to us. Everyone else in that show was wonderful, too! Thanks for
posting all of those videos – never get tired of them.

  2. These are among some of my favorite videos to watch and listen to…especially This is The Moment (which is not there but I still love it anyway!) I wish I'd known who he was at that time. Unfortunately, it was still 2 months before I did. I love it when he sings Broadway style music. 🙂

  3. I absolutely love Clay singing Those Magic Changes! I get a kick out of the music
conductor smiling when Clay is singing. Goodness, I wish he would sing that
    song on tour.

  4. I loved watching these again. These were probably some of the best performances by Clay…He was spectacular that night. I love watching Lauren Kennedy watching Clay sing… She is lovin' every minute listening and watching Clay!!!! (I don't blame her at all)

  5. I did not attend this program in person but I really wish I would have. I loved all the songs Clay sang-especially Those Magic Changes. The other singers were wonderful also. Thanks so much for the videos. I love watching them.

  6. I also didn't attend but I have 3 of the songs he sang on several of my home made CD collection for my car. Those Magic Changes and This is the Moment are by far my favorites!!

  7. i dint get to go to see this bit i kinda wished that i had gone to see it and i did like the songs that clay sang and the other singers were good thanks so much for the videos

  8. That Bringing Broadway Home concert benefit was truly an outstanding and amazing event. All the singing participants along with the orchestra were brilliant. Of course, my eyes and ears always seem to focus mainly on Clay, and his voice was indisputably magical that evening. I loved every song he sang, with Those Magic Changes leading the pack. Thanks musicfan for putting up some of his performance videos from the event. I absolutely love watching and hearing Broadway Songs Clay.

  9. Musicfan, BLESS YOU FOR THESE VIDS!! Except for "Home", I didn't know they existed. Can't wait to hear them — gaymarie, I so envy your car CD player — pumpkin, If I lived in NC there's no way I would not have been there, gosh, how could you pass that up? Getting back there from Calif. is something else again, LOL.

  10. I really love the videos. This was an amazing program. I wish I had seen it live.

    Thanks for posting this!
