Denver wrote this for his then-wife Ann Martell after their first separation and near break up of their marriage in 1974.
He was reflecting on all the joy he found in his marriage and his relief that they were back together.

He stood on a black stage with a spotlight right on him.
Anyone would know he is a star.
Clay’s performance was beautiful.
I just wish he could have performed 2 or 3 more songs!!

This song will always mean the world to me as Annie was my dear Mums name. Clay sings it beautifully. I did continue to watch AI but its no longer televised here in Northern Ireland, UK

I hadn't been watching AI much after AI 2 but did tune into the final show with the hopes of seeing Clay. I wasn't disappointed…he sang that song so beautifully. Clay looked so handsome that night, hair, suit, + voice a real winner.
