Clay Aiken – From 1/28/03 to Today!

Yesterday, Michael Orland announced the following on social media:

JUST IN: the incomparable @clayaiken will be joining us tomorrow in an all new #LiveWithMichael at a SPECIAL TIME – 4pm PT / 7pm ET. See ya then!

Michael is a music Director, Pianist, and vocal coach.  You probably saw him on American Idol.  I know that Michael and Clay are friends and this conversation should be very interesting. I hope you can join in the fun.

It all started in Atlanta, Georgia on January 28th, 2003, when millions of people were introduced to a skinny redhead who wore glasses and had a unique fashion style. The American Idol judges looked skeptical and no one knew what to expect.

But like your mother used to say, don’t judge a book by its cover. Clay Aiken opened his mouth to sing and the incredible voice that poured out amazed everyone.

“Why are you here?” Clay spread his hands and stated simply; “Because I am the next American Idol.”

The skeptical judges watched and listened as Clay sang an excerpt from the 80’s song, Always and Forever and demonstrated his rich, clear voice.

Randy Jackson wanted to know where the voice came from and Simon Cowell suggested that he didn’t look like a pop star. But, it’s all about the voice and so Clay, the unlikely pop star, made his first steps on an incredible journey.

The voice continued to amaze through the following weeks. Clayton Aiken became Clay Aiken. He not only looked like a pop star, he became one.

Please watch this incredible audition here.

Thank you, hosaa

for the wonderful video

And…Thank you to Clay for 18 wonderful years!!

Congratulations!!  You are Still our Idol!!

  1. I am excited about the news of Clay and Michael for tomorrow. I am not on Instagram and wondering if it will be on FB, too??!!! Or maybe a link from you here so that it can be seen by everyone.

It has been 18 years since Idol Season 2 and I still get thrilled and chilled reading about how all of this happened for Clay and for all of us fans. God meant for this to happen for Clay as he has handled it all with Grace and Humility helping so many along the way! It’s no wonder he is so loved by so many.

Thank you so much for all that you share with us the Clay Family!!!

  2. How time has flown by, 18 years and still counting! I had my doubts too, but that voice won me over and I was hooked! Thank you, CANN and hosaa for sharing this important time in "Clayhistory"

  3. Thank you for the pictures and the video. It has been a long time since I saw the video. Hosaa did a great job on the video. Congratulations to Clay for 18 great years. Thank you for sharing. Thank you to CANN.

  4. I can hardly wait until 7:00 this evening to hear Clay talking with Michael Orland. Thanks for the heads up. Clay has changed so much visually since trying out for AI season 2!

  5. YES! I remember I even posted about this on Instagram that day. It's amazing to see how far Clay has come since then. Like Shirley T said, this moment marks a significant time in "Clayhistory", so thank you for sharing this.
