“American Idol” alum Clay Aiken is now running for office in North Carolina, but raising money in Georgia.
The crooner turned Congressional hopeful was in Atlanta this week on a fundraising trip.
The Raleigh News & Observer reported that he officially declared his candidacy last month, ” injecting a nationally known personality into what has been a quiet Democratic primary to produce a challenger to U.S. Rep. Renee Ellmers.”
Aiken dined at Pricci Tuesday night following a reception at Ansley Golf Club. He posed for a photo at Pricci with executive Chef Piero Premoli, and his campaign posted this selfie.
Ellmers’ Twitter feed also featured a bit of celebrity news this week, although it was posted with sorrow. “I was saddened to hear of the passing of the First Lady of NASCAR, Lynda Petty,” Ellmers posted on Tuesday, after learning that the wife of NASCAR giant Richard Petty had died at age 72.”My prayers are with the Petty family.”
