Clay Aiken – And The Rumor Continues!

The news sites are working overtime today as they report about the rumor that Clay Aiken is considering running for the US House of Representative.  I wrote some information last night (see earlier post) but woke up this morning to many more news items.

I will quickly add some sites and links here so that it will be easy for you to see what is going on…AND…I will make every effort to add more information as it becomes available.

The Southerner reached stardom on the second season of the Fox singing competition in 2003.

Though he took second place, behind Ruben Studdard, he has released six albums and starred on Broadway in “Spamalot” from 2008 to 2009…

Huffington Post – Clay Aiken Considering Run For Congress: Report

…A spokesman for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee couldn’t confirm if Aiken is planning to run, but said it’s no surprise Ellmers drew a challenger.

“Congresswoman Ellmers is responsible for the most unpopular and reckless Congress in history that’s put the middle class at greater risk but it’s up to potential candidates to talk about whether they’re interested in running for Congress, not us,” said David Bergestein, Southern Regional Press Secretary for the DCCC… Clay Aiken may run for Congress

The out singer has been active on LGBT issues in recent years.

…In 2012, Aiken revealed his dream to one day become governor of North Carolina. “When I was in eighth grade, we had to do a project where we interviewed somebody we admired and wrote a paper about them. Everybody did [theirs on] a parent or their youth pastor or someone close to them. I called (the late U.S. Senator, D-N.C.) Terry Sanford’s office in Raleigh and went and interviewed Terry Sanford,” Aiken told the Charlotte Observer
