Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard recently entertained Los Angeles at their show at The Club Nokia Theatre. The two singers met in 2002 during the auditions of American Idol and became friends. Months later in May 2003, they became the winner and runner up on the second season of the show. Both went on to put out several successful albums. On their Timeless Tour the duo is traveling across the country singing all their favorite songs of each decade. The show starts off with the announcer stating that Ruben and Clay are on the same stage together except this time there is no Simon or Randy to judge them. The show is very reminiscent of a variety type show with music and sketch comedy bits, a full band and Ruben and Clay dressed in suits.

Studdard kicked off the show singing “Flying Without Wings/This Is the Night” in a mash-up with Aiken then appearing to sing “Suspicious Minds.” He then followed with “Bring It On Home.” The pair was backed by an excellent band and two talented background singers (Quiana Parler and
Casey Thompson) who each had their chance to shine doing a solo number. Studdard and Aiken talked about how they met and their experience on “American Idol” which included coming to Hollywood in
which Aiken joked “that it was actually Glendale.” The two then performed an excellent two-hour show to the crowd who sang along to all the songs. Even with the omission of their own hit singles, this was a very entertaining show.

Studdard proved that he can sing R& B and gospel with a funny routine where he took us to the church as Rev. Ruben was going to cure Clay of his “lack of rhythmitis.” Aiken can sing any style given to him as he showcased in this performance. After performing the each decade they closed the show with the song ‘Time Of My Life.” The crowd which included American Idol Season 1 winner Kelly Clarkson enjoyed every minute of it.
