Clay Aiken – Celebrate Canada Day

By musicfan123 · Comments 10694(7)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2011%2F07%2F01%2Fclay-aiken-celebrate-canada-day%2FClay+Aiken+-+Celebrate+Canada+Day2011-07-01+08%3A00%3A38musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D10694
Friday, July 1st, 2011

Do you know what Canada Day is? It’s Canada’s national day and is a federal holiday celebrating the July 1, 1867 enactment of the British North America Act (now called the Constitution Act 1867). This united two British colonies and a province of the British Empire into a single country called Canada. In French it’s called Fete du Canada.

Canada Day has been called a few names in the past. It used to be known as Dominion Day, the First of July, Confederation Day and July the First. Canada wasn’t born on July 1st, but the holiday celebrates the events that took place on this day.

In 1982, Dominion Day changed to Canada Day after a vote in Parliament. Not everyone was happy about this change. Some people felt that a 115 year-old part of Canadian heritage was lost. But, the new name stuck and every July 1st, Canadians celebrate Canada Day.

Today, Canada Day is celebrated with fireworks, concerts, cookouts, and sports games. Canada’s capital, Ottawa, Ontario, hosts the most holiday activities. There are countless events, activities, and festivals to be found throughout the city in the city streets, parks, and museums. Fireworks are launched from Parliament Hill to conclude a day of patriotic festivities. For more information about Canada Day’s history, click here.

The following are some interesting facts about Canada:

  • Canada was named from the Huron and Iroquois word kanata, which means village.
  • Canada has approximately three million lakes across the country. More than 30,000 of those lakes are larger than three square kilometers.
  • Princess Juliana of the Netherlands gave Ottawa 100,000 tulip bulbs as a thank-you gift in 1945 for keeping the Dutch Royal Family safe during World War II. The Nazis occupied the Netherlands until Canadian soldiers liberated the country in 1944-45.
  • The Bank of Canada issued the last $1 bill in 1989. It was replaced by the one-dollar coin, known as the loonie, which came out in 1987.
  • The world’s only flying saucer launching pad is in St. Paul, Alberta. It was built in 1967.
  • The largest mall in the world is the West Edmonton Mall in Alberta. It has over 800 stores and restaurants, an amusement park, the world’s largest indoor lake with four working submarines, 26 movie theaters and a hockey-sized ice arena.
  • More than 75% of the world’s maple syrup comes from Canada.

Clay Aiken has performed many times in Canada. He was there for the American Idol Tour during Season 2 and he has brought some of his tours to Canada. He also knows Canada because of his close relationship with two Canadian friends, David Foster and Jaymes Foster…. And his son is 1/2 Canadian!!

Clay was a judge for David Foster’s Star Search and was a big hit. The event took place at the River Rock Casino Resort in Redmond, BC on September 9th, 2006. The next night, David hosted the “David Foster and Friends Charity Gala.” Clay Aiken was a performer that night and helped David raise money for his charity by being a part of an auction.

On August 25, 2005, Clay performed at the Molson Amphitheater in Toronto as a part of his Jukebox Tour. It was a huge success!!

We all wish the best to all of our Canadian Friends. Have a wonderful day!!

Clay Aiken – Surprise!!

Clay Aiken is a pro at surprising his fan.  He did that Friday night when he made a surprise appearance at the David Foster and Friends Concert held at the HP Pavillion in San Jose, California.

Clay was asked onto the stage by his good friend, David Foster and ask to sing.  David asked him to sing Unchained Melody, a song that is a favorite with both the fans and Clay.  Clay was dressed casually and it was obvious that he did not expect to be on the stage as he had to borrow a jacket from a friend back stage.

As he was announced, the audience began sending messages by twitter and soon, many of the fans heard of Clay’s appearance.  Fortunately, a Clay fan was in the audience and was able to video the performance on her phone.  The video is not the best, but the sound is wonderful.  Clay was brilliant in his rendition of this song.  His voice was clear and full and a real statement of his recovery from his surgery.

A big thank you to David Foster for inviting Clay to sing.  Another thank you to Clay for singing and and a BIG thank you to the fans who were able to get the “Clack.”

The following is the video of the performance.  It is certainly worth the listen.

Here is a new video that was posted Sunday morning.  The video is better.

WOW!!  You can really see him and hear the intro in this one.

Clay Aiken – Celebrity Judge

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

The River Rock Show Theatre at the River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond, BC was the setting of a two-day event that featured Clay Aiken.

On September 9th, David Foster sponsored the Star Search Finals.  Clay was a judge at this event.  Although he did not sing, Clay was very involved in his job as a judge.  Besides providing critiques of each performance, Clay also gave each contestant advice on what they could do to improve. He attended the rehearsal in the afternoon and worked with the contestants, giving them advice on everything from their songs to their vocal performance to their stage presence.

The fans that were in attendance commented that the judges seemed to have a wonderful time together.  They were pleased to see that Clay and David seemed to be such good friends.

The next night, there was a special fund raising Gala Event in support of the David Foster Foundation, a unique charity assisting families with children requiring life saving organ transplants. The exclusive, private function was limited to a 1000 benefactors, with all the proceeds going directly to the Foundation.

The evening started with a Pre Show Cocktail Party and was followed by a Live Auction and then a star-studded concert by David Foster and his friends.  Michael Buble was the headliner.  Other performers included “Babyface”, Olivia Newton John, George Lopez and, of course, Clay Aiken.

Part of the auction was a piano that David had used in many performances.  There were two bidders who were interested in the piano.. When the bidding stalled at 280,000 David came out to sign the piano and say that he would give a private concert to the winning bid. The bidding stalled again at 310,000, and Clay came to say he would sing. David says, “What a bargain, this guy gets 250,000 per show”. The bidding went right to 500,000.

David Foster was very complimentary when he introduced Clay in the concert.  He reminded the audience that Clay had sold over 600,000 copies of his first CD in the first week of sales.  He said;

What an amazing singer. What an amazing story. He’ll tell you some of it; he used to be a school teacher, this kid. Please welcome the FANTASTIC. CLAY. AIKEN!

Clay performed three songs that evening;  Right Here Waiting For You, Unchained Melody and Without You. He was accompanied by David Foster on the piano and a small back-up band.  Clay enjoyed a standing ovation after each song.

The two events were fun-filled and wonderful for Clay Aiken fans.

There are four videos posted with this article.  They are wonderful.

Clay Aiken Congratulates His Friends

By musicfan123 · Comments 6194(16)http%3A%2F%2Fclaynewsnetwork.com%2F2009%2F09%2F08%2Fclay-aiken-congratulates-his-friends%2FClay+Aiken+Congratulates+His+Friends2009-09-08+07%3A46%3A36musicfan123http%3A%2F%2Fwww.claynewsnetwork.com%2F%3Fp%3D6194
Tuesday, September 8th, 2009

Two colleagues and good friends of Clay Aiken announced some exciting news this last week.

On September 2nd, ABC announced that Diane Sawyer will replace Charles Gibson in January as anchor of the flagship ABC evening program World News.

For the first time in television history, two of the three major U.S. networks will have a woman anchoring their nightly news broadcasts. Replacing Charles Gibson as anchor of ABC’s World News, Diane will be taking over in January.  Diane’s appointment makes her only the second woman to hold a lead solo anchor position on a top three network–behind Katie Couric, who took over the CBS Evening News from Dan Rather in 2006. Other women, notably Barbara Walters, Jessica Savitch, Connie Chung and Elizabeth Vargas, have co-anchored or weekend anchored evening news broadcasts in the past, but none apart from Couric have taken center stage.

David Westin is the ABC News president.  He said of this move:

“Diane Sawyer is the right person to succeed Charlie and build on what he has accomplished.   She has an outstanding and varied career in television journalism, beginning with her role as a State Department correspondent and continuing at 60 Minutes, Primetime Live, and most recently Good Morning America.“

Diane worked at CBS for 10 years before starting at ABC in 1989.  She graduated from Wellesley College and worked in the Nixon administration and helped the president write his memoirs after his resignation.

Clay was asked at the OFC if he had spoken to Diane about her new assignment.  He stated that he sent her a text of congratulations to her.  According to Clay, she asked for his input and Clay joked around with her.

Diane will be missed on Good Morning America.  The morning show usually finishes second to NBC’s Today and has won the daytime Emmy for best morning show three years running.  Diane will continue for the next four months while the network searches for a replacement on GMA.

I am sure that all of you here hope that whoever joins the team is a big Clay Aiken fan.  We need to see Clay on morning TV.

Clay’s AI buddy, Ruben Studdard announced two career moves this past week.  First, Ruben will appear in a movie being shot in Alabama. The movie is about a young singer whose family life is disrupted when his father is deployed to Afghanistan by the Marines.  A 12-year-old named Uriah Shelton will star as Henry Matthews. Country star Trace Adkins will be in the movie, too. The movie is due out in year.

Ruben plays a kindly minister named Pastor Johnson.  He befriends the young lead named Henry and helps inspire his love of music.

Ruben’s second announcement was found on his Official Website.

Ruben to perform with David Foster and Friends Tour!

Ruben will be joining Philip Bailey of Earth, Wind and Fire, Charice, Peter Cetera and Michael Johns for the 10 city tour kicking off October 21st in Chicago!  Go to the tour section for a list of dates!

I was lucky enough to see the David Foster and Friends Concert in Las Vegas in the spring when Clay Aiken was performing.  The entire show was wonderful and I am sure that Ruben will be a wonderful addition to the show.

Since Clay’s friends are announcing good news, maybe they can encourage Clay to spill some news to us.  That would be the best news!!

Quote of the Day

It is not always about performance art, but about receiving positive energy from people with positive spirits. Sometimes we can see someone's spirit, and those are the people with great energy. Those are the people that get me through the day, especially on Broadway. -Clay Aiken
