Clay Aiken – Helping In His Own Way!

On June 14th, 2012, Clay Aiken returned to Leesville Road High School to sing the National Anthem at a very special charity basketball game.  The game was played to support the Richard J. Murphy Memorial Scholarship.

Mr. Murphy was a life long educator who spent his entire career in the Wake County Public School System.  In 1993 he realized a lifelong dream when he was asked to open Leesville Road High School, the first new high school to open in Wake County since 1978.  To continue the legacy of Mr. Murphy, a scholarship was set up in his name.  According to the school:

The Murphy Scholarship will recognize a Leesville Road High School senior who embodies the high expectations and commitment to visionary leadership, service, and lifelong learning that Richard Murphy epitomized and inspired others to achieve. Recipients of the Murphy Scholars Award will receive a $2,500 scholarship to use toward their college education.

How lucky that Clay was able to help by singing the National Anthem before the game.  The following pictures are from the event.

What a great way to help others.

I bet it was a fun day for Clay.
